I’ve heard so much about Neighborhood Services and their burgers. I did not know there was a hidden location on Preston so I decided to check it out. I’m in this area all the time and I never once noticed this restaurant. It took me a good 10 minutes to find it because it’s so inconspicuous. It is right next to Nothing Bundt Cakes. Walking in on a sunny evening around 6, it looked like it was midnight on the inside. This seems like a place to go hide. Since there was a wait to sit inside and the shaded patio had seating available, I chose the patio which was the worst idea ever! The shaded patio was actually quite comfortable on a 90+ degree evening, until I got my food. This isn’t the restaurant’s fault, but never ever sit on the patio in the summer here because flies will be all over you and your food! I must have forgotten, but it would have been nice if they had a fly zapper or something out there. The service was polite and prompt and I don’t have any complaints. I ordered the cheeseburger that I had heard so much about. It was a pretty hefty burger, very juicy, so much to the point that if you try to put ketchup and mustard on it it will fall apart and make a mess. There were several tough cartilage pieces in my burger which was a major turnoff… made me want to go vegetarian. The $ 14 price tag for a burger and fries was reasonable, but I just expected a much better and more edible burger from a restaurant. I could have paid the same price at a fast casual joint and avoided the cartilage and flies. I did work up a good sweat from beating off the flies though.

Heard so much about this place from the locals, so had to come here the night before leaving Dallas. The address to this location on Unilocal needs to be corrected. It takes you to the other side of the shopping center and you can’t even see the sign on the building. It was already really busy on Thursday night @ 7pm, so I just got the breaded Sole with lemon butter sauce and butter lettuce to go. Surprisingly the sole was still great by the time I got to the hotel in the extreme humidity. The breading was still dry, which gave it a nice crunch. The lemon butter sauce was just buttery enough for my fish. The butter lettuce was really fresh and the vinaigrette is so refreshing.

Excellent staff and good service. The price point for the dinner plate is decent in the high teens to just under $ 40. Menu is somewhat limited which is ok if you’re going to employ some great flavors but the lemon sole was not very flavorful, bread crumbs, sauté, arugula, lemon half, that’s it. Sides are all al a carte so get ready to add another $ 7 for a veggie or side and more for a salad.

Food was excellent! I had the sole special and a butter lettuce salad. Even the salad was great — which is primarily lettuce. One of my new favorite places in Dallas! Definitely will come back! I had not been to the gym — so no dessert — otherwise they have very unique options as well.

A fantastic spot for great food, drinks, and ambiance. I can only recommend what we had, and it was all amazing, so I’m sure the rest of the menu won’t disappoint: Appetizers: crispy asparagus, kung pao rock shrimp Main Dish: by-hand noodle, chicken pot pie. Plus the seafood/fish dishes and burgers are to die for.

Atmosphere was 4 stars, Food was 2 stars, The restaurant was clean and inviting. Pleasant and we’ll informed staff that were happy to attend to us in any way. We opted to sit at the bar which has a full view of the kitchen so we could see the entrees going out to help us decide. The kitchen staff seemed well managed and professional and we only saw one dish be returned while sitting for an hour, that’s pretty good. We decided to order a salad martini and the deviled eggs to start. The martini was creative and a nice twist on the old classic, very strong. The eggs which were described as including smoked salmon, we’re lackluster upon arrival. I love smoked salmon and it was the reason I ordered the eggs, there was a very small fleck upon each egg and was hardly noticeable. I would take the description on the menu and remove smoked salmon from it since it was barely there. We ordered to go entrees since time was limited for us. We decided on the burger and the shnitzel. The burger was juicy and flavorful but lacked any creativity as far as toppings. Just a burger. The shnitzel was crispy but very plain, and the spaetzle was by far the worst I’ve ever had in my life. Greasy, hard, and completely over cooked. We were expecting a lovely dumpling or pasta texture but was more like cocoa peebles covered in oil. All the food has a distinct smell of curry or something. Very odd. All in all, we would go back for the bar experience but skip the food.

We had been to the location in Addison on Beltline so we wanted to try this one too since it is a bit closer for us. The place is smaller than the Beltline location and has more of a feel of an upscale bar that serves good food than an upscale restaurant that has a bar. There is music that is a bit louder than background music, although it was not annoying. But one does have to raise your voice for conversation. The food was very good. We started with half a dozen oysters that were fresh and tasty, although smaller than the ones we tried in the Beltline location($ 17). The wife ordered a fish special, wild caught white bass, that was cooked perfectly($ 27). There was a slightly smoky flavor that was delectable. She ordered mac n’ cheese on the side and it was very tasty($ 7). There’s a strong cheddar flavor. Better than Kenny’s, not as good as Hibiscus. I ordered the trout that is a menu regular($ 22) with the potato cheese gratin as a side($ 7). The trout was moist and tender, nice buttery flavor, although the skin is not crispy. The potato gratin was rich and creamy. I was stuffed and could not eat it all. I would highly recommend the cheese potato gratin – it is mashed potatoes topped with sour cream, cheese, bacon, and scallions. It was really good. We had a good experience although it was curious that the two couples in the booth behind us thought it was a good idea to bring their babies who are less than one year old. So you know what you got: screaming babies and flying objects. It sort of detracts from trying to have a romantic dinner. How insensitive. If you can afford a dinner at NHS you can afford a sitter. Maybe the restaurant needs a section for people with babies(who are too cheap to pay for a sitter).

One of my Dallas favorites. I can always count on NHS for great food, wine and service. This location is my favorite — the waitstaff and bartenders are usually very friendly. Must haves for me: the fried asparagus, three jack Mac and cheese and filet. Not sure how the cocktails are because I always get a glass of wine of the extensive wine list. Great date place — just make a reservation because sometimes the wait can be long!

We were looking for a patio to enjoy the 70 degree temps in Dallas, so we decided this would be a great place to have a corporate HH… not so much! Not great, but not bad either. We walked in(I will note without a reservation, but the patio was EMPTY) and asked for a table on the patio for 6(again, without a rezzi) then realized we needed it for 7… the hostess let us know that she could NOT do a table for 7, only a table for 6… which left me a bit confused…(again…empty patio), so we decided to figure it out… after all, a little lap sitting among co-workers never hurt anyone, right? That decided, she then informed us that since we were not ordering dinner(Drinks and Apps, typical corporate HH fare, mind you), that we could only have the table for 1 hour because«everyone» has been asking for the patio(again…EMPTYPATIO/Bar/Restaurant) We were like WHAAT? She must have been feeling a little less anxious and more generous, because SHEGAVEINTO1.5HOURS! She was going to let us spend our $$ on her patio for 1.5HOURS! We gladly accepted! Our server must like the chedda, because she was greatness! Very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful in giving us non-dinner suggestions that still cost human dollars.. Great attitude and better personality! The meatballs were a bit on the«meh» side while the fried asparagus and deviled eggs were amaze-balls! About 30 minutes into said HH, ANOTHER person showed up… OMG! We were really pushing things at that point… thank the lord there happened to be extra chairs on the(you guessed it) STILLEMPTYPATIO/BAR/RESTAURANT… I realize we didn’t have a rezzie, and that patio space was limited, but when the patio is empty and there are MAYBE2 people sitting at the bar, .shouldn’t you let prospective patrons sit on the patio for more than 1.5 hours? I promise we were spending plenty of skrilla… even makin it rain! For us, we probably won’t be back for another work HH, we prefer to find a place that wants us to spend bank freely, without abandon and time constraints.

Not what I expected. Came here on the recommendation of a friend, however, we weren’t all that impressed with the restaurant. To begin with, the bar area during happy hour was out of control. There was no where to stand, and I felt like any minute, someone was going to drop a hot plate of food on me. When we finally sat down, The waiter was rushing us. Not everybody in the party had even arrived, when the waiter was already asking if we wanted to order. I had the salmon, which I had asked for well done and crispy on the outside. When the salmon arrived, I cut into it and it was slimy and raw on the inside. I had also asked for a side of fries which never came. Probably the worst part of the night, was when everyone was done eating, but we were trying to enjoy our dessert and about four waiters showed up and all started taking our plates and glasses as if to tell us to get out. I won’t be coming back as I don’t enjoy feeling like I’m not welcomed when I’m paying a lot of money for dinner.

Preston is one of my least favorite roads to travel and the intersection of Preston and Royal and its surrounding shopping centers are unnavigable nightmares. However, hitting up Neighborhood Services is worth the risk. I went here for date night yesterday and can say I was impressed. The place is small with an occupancy of 99 so make reservations if you don’t want to wait. Otherwise, if you don’t make a res, feel free to sip on a drink or two while you wait for a table. We made a reservation for 7:30 and are glad we did because this place was packed to the gills. We waited about ten minutes to be seated and everything after that was a great. We got the deviled eggs and fried asparagus apps, both of which were damn good. The lemon fraiche on the asparagus was killer and a nice addition to the tempura style plate. The deviled eggs had salmon and cucumber and had a very nice presentation. We both ordered the Proper Manhattan which was a stiff little badass drink that was in fact properly made. Entrees included the grilled scallops and schnitzel. Holy crap. The scallops came with chorizo and polenta in a kind of gravy. It was absolutely delicious although very rich and a tiny too salty. The veal schnitzel was served on a bed of a nutty tasting bread dressing and was also pretty delicious. We made it out of there on $ 130 including top which was well worth it. The place is small, dark, and has an intimate feel that is a good mood setter. The waitstaff do their job and don’t try to be your friend which I appreciate. No one likes a lingering waiter and this place gets that. I passed on dessert simply because I was bursting at the seams, but next time I will definitely need to trade an app for something sweet. I’m glad this place exists and can’t wait to go back.

Today, by the recommendation of a Central Market(Preston Road) employee, I was looking for a nice place for lunch. Being that I’m fairly new to the area, I’m always eager to try new places. The employee raved about this place. Boy was she right. The food and service was great. I started off with a salad and chicken fried chicken sandwich, followed by sea salt fries. The chicken was perfectly crisp and the fries were some of the best I’ve ever eaten. The waiter Ryan was very friendly. I can’t wait to try the other locations.

Having just moved to the area, what a great surprise when we decided to try out NS which is just walking distance to our new home. Our first impression was the front desk staff who were so professional and spot on with quote as we were walk ins without a reservation. The food and service were fantastic, the steak fries entrée is delicious, spicy tuna tartar also excellent. Overall you can see the management effort and attention to service detail here. We will be back!!!

I love traveling to the south because people are so much more friendly than they are in New York. My coworkers and I stopped by this restaurant after a long day of filming in Dallas. The service was top notch. Our waitress was incredibly kind. I asked where was the restroom and instead of directing me, she actually walked me to where the restrooms were. I had a chicken sandwich with fries here. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as great as the service. Maybe if I would have tried something else, I’m sure I would’ve been more satisfied. Perhaps some good ol’ Texas bbq? I don’t know. If I’m ever in Dallas, I would stop by again to see what else their menu has to offer.

I recently took My wife out for a romantic dinner at this location. We usually dine at the Lovers location. You cannot go wrong with their menu. I highly recommend the porterhouse steak or the lobster. If you are looking for nice candlelight/romantic dinner, go to their Lovers location. Otherwise this one felt more like a sportsbar with over priced food. Nothing date worthy here.

I ordered take out on a Tuesday night and had mixed feelings. My $ 30 scallop dish had 3 medium-sized scallops and a polenta that had 18 lbs of cheese in it. I’m not one to complain about over-cheesing, but it was to the point that I was nauseous just taking a bite! I wouldn’t recommend that dish. The fiancé’s Rick’s steak dinner was a hefty portion of perfectly-cooked porterhouse. He enjoyed it(and so did I ^_^). Our meatball appetizer was okay. The texture was too mushy for me, but the flavors were tasty. The VooDoo sauce has a bit of a curry zing to it. The side of broccolini was really refreshing, but the potato gratin was just… mashed potatoes. Lame!

I’ve been to this location and the one at Lovers and Inwood many times. Taste of delicious food is always consistent. Service is par and sometimes above, depending on the server. You either feel your like not good enough to be here or you’re family! None-the-less food here calls my name! The voodoo sauce with the meatballs is so good that it leaves you wanting more. Their drinks are a bit on the high side on price but I can’t complain on the strength. The fries are always crispy and perfectly salted. This is one of the best flank steaks I’ve also had! They are tender with every biye and full of marinated seasoning! A favorite restaurant for lunch or dinner!

We went into this restaurant on a night that was very cold and icy out so they were about to close early but they said that they would seat us which was nice of them considering that they were probably wanting to go home. We decided to have our dinner at the bar. We shared the wedge salad which was yummy and they were nice enough to divide it in to two for us. I decided to go with the roasted chicken which came out fast and it was served hot too. The bartender’s name was Mario and he was very friendly. I would go back just to have a drink at this bar because it is nice and the bartender was in a positive mood and he also had a sense of humor too. Two pluses! The restaurant itself is very nice and I loved the ambience. I can’t believe this restaurant is in my neighborhood and I have only been there once! I will go back to this place soon and try something different next time. My friend had the salmon which I tasted and it was cooked perfectly. I will probably have that the next time I go there.

This is definitely one of our favorite places in the neighborhood. The food and service is excellent. I had the schnitzel, spaetzle, and a side salad. It is one of my go to dishes at nhs.

I have eaten at Neighborhood services before but never at this location and let me just say, my judgement still stands – this place is top of the line amazing. I once again had a fish dish, which was one of this location’s specials. It was the Mahi-Mahi on top of green chili grits and my goodness it was amazing. The fish was tender and white and cooked perfectly. The grits complimented it very well and I couldn’t believe it honestly, it was just all so good. Also, I said this in my other review too — the maple brussel sprouts are to die for and I would choose them over anything else on that menu hands down. I had a wonderful experience and cannot wait to get spoiled by this restaurant again. ~Carpe Diem~
