Purple Cow is known for their«Purple Shake» which is really good in my opinion. But the burger that I got here was not as tasty as I imagined. The fries were pretty bland as well. Although if you have a child, I’m pretty sure they’ll enjoy coming here.

This place has a big ROACH problem so beware when eating there. And yes I know being a restaurant it’s hard to keep the bugs and rodents away but, that’s why you get a GOOD exterminator! when the bugs are going to your neighbors business and through your front door your just NASTY! YUCK!!! Will not be eating here ever again! Btw the only reason you got 1 star because it would not let me post without choosing one, I didn’t want to give any!

A fabulous 50s style restaurant. They absolutely have the best music of any restaurant ever. The food is terrific, and the service is excellent. Also, their televisions do not ALWAYS play sports. Frequently you will see Fox news on one television there.(Yes, they are that cool.) I have been to all the purple cow locations. The Plano location is by far the best.

I love this place but every single time I have been I ordered the Blue Cheese Burger, which is always delicious. The service is ok, they are nice and normally they take care of you well, they check up on you and bring your food in a timely manner. It has definitely changed since I was young and the restrooms are not always well cleaned but I still love it

Surprisingly good! A neighborhood diner with basic All American food. Blue Plate specials, hamburgers, salads.

Great shakes and malteds but burgers are pretty mediocre. If you want a delicious high-end burger, then you’d be better off going to Hopdoddy or Liberty Burger.

I’m not from Dallas, visiting from Houston, and my husband and I were looking for a kid friendly place to eat. This place was mentioned on a few websites. Was pretty quiet on a Saturday night but several families and their young kids. Made us feel comfortable with our 2 year old. I had the goat cheese burger with shoe string onion rings. Hubby had the Cozumel. We both enjoyed the burgers. Over all the staff was kind, attentive and quick. Something I can’t say about some of the fancier places I’ve been.

This rating comes from my 9 year old and partially me — this place used to be «not good at all», but has gotten much better. We were served quickly and the food came quickly. I ordered the BLT and it was a hefty portion. My son ordered a hot dog, Mac n cheese(average) and potato soup. He loved the plain hot dog and licked up the soup dry. Milk shake was GOOOOD.

No stars. Absolutely horrible experience, real inefficient staff, and since we never got food … Can only imagine what we would have tasted. After 45 minutes of waiting in a near empty restaurant around 5 pm on a Saturday and asking two different servers to check on the status of our two hamburgers, and having them never show back up, we left. And only then did our server run out the door to ask if we wanted to pay for the sodas. Clueless and worthless.

The Purple Cow is a Preston Hollow institution. I stay away from it because when my sister worked here, and I worked across the street, she would bring me free milkshakes. I gained about 8 pounds. The milkshakes are irresistible. Purple Cow is extremely kid friendly. Kids run around and shout and climb all over the booths. The waitresses are somehow indifferent to these kids, and it doesn’t seem to phase them. If you need a crazy kid friendly place to eat, then this is your place. If you don’t like kids — don’t ever set foot in here. This is also a popular place with the big kids, sometimes it is a local«whose who» of high school letter-jackets: Hillcrest, St. Marks, and Ursuline, presiding. The standard burger is $ 5.85, which isn’t a bad price, but the fries are an extra $ 1. 35. The«Hot Mama» burger is $ 6.45. I haven’t deviated from the burger menu before, but I have no desire to. The burgers are good, the fries are even better, and the milkshakes… The milkshakes, Kelis aside, bring all the boys and girls to the yard.

Had to meet for lunch. If LOTS of small children make eating a pain ;DON’T eat lunch here. That said the food is very good, service is more than adequate.

I like you Purple Cow! I had a huge Chicago Dog and a purple milkshake. The dog was OK and I will agree that this place is geared toward the kid in you, but hey if you don’t crave a dog and some old school diner food every now and then, who are you really? Seriously lighten up. LOL. I do like the shakes and think that it is a little hard to find some quality ice cream around here. Grab a shake, gain a pound and relax.

The purple cow is a good old fashioned«soda fountain» like burger and milkshake joint. The namesake«Purple Cow» is an ice cream mixed beverage. Food is good. Lots of tasty sweet treats. 50’s diner type feel to the joint. Lots of checkered black and white going on in here. Family friendly place to eat.

Yes the service is lacking there, but our waiter came just in time before my patience clock ran out. The food overall was pretty good. Kind of reminded me of a Steak n Shake for the overall look of the place. I would definitely go back to try more food, but going later at night might be the best bet. Not so busy and you wont have to wait that long for service. The booths are a nice touch especially if you have a special someone to sit next to, you can sit nice and close to each other and still have elbow room. We used a groupon coupon and it was nice to be able to try all kinds of stuff. O yea Onion rings are AWESOME !!! definitely substitute the boring old chips for them.

Best Friggin Club Sandwich Ever!!! Go for the club. Expect a wait. Expect bad service. Expect a lot of kids. Expect the kids to not love this place(at least mine don’t)…but all of that doesn’t matter. They put sliced boiled eggs on their club, and that trumps The Purple Cow’s many shortcomings.

*Pull the string on the side…* The purple cow says… yum(for the most part) Me and the gruesome foursome moseyed on down to fulfill our hankerin’ for some good grub and one of them there purple milkshakes. I have been to the Purple Cow before and it was OK, but my kids love it. It was too busy, there was a wait and the highchair was beyond disgusting. However, after a 10 minute wait, a few wet wipes and arming myself to be patient considering the crowd… I was able to appreciate P-Cow a bit more. The food was pretty good, though I thought they were a bit chintzy with the fish on the fish tacos. But the shakes were yum and my kidlets loved their food. They also like the environment, though they were hoping they’d change out sports for cartoons. Given the number of kids and wait for good eats, I was surprised, too. All in all though, it was good and not pricey for a group of 5.

I grew up in the area of Dallas where this restuarant is located. It has been around a long time, but it has gone downhill. I went on Saturday, 12/5, for dinner with a small group. I stood at the door for several minutes before being seated. My wife asked what the soup of the day was and the waiter didn’t know, no big deal. However, we had to ask him two more times before he bothered to find out. Most of us ordered except one person who was still undecided. After several minutes, the person who had yet to order placed an order. Ultimately, the person who ordered last got food first. It then took about 10 – 15 minutes for everyone else at the table to get food. It was quite odd. The waiter brought one item at a time and would be in the kitchen for two or three minutes before returning with the next order.

«For my spring break, my parents took me to lunch at the Purple cow on Monday, the 23rd of March. My favorite part of spring break was when we went to Purple cow on March 23.» — Bradley, a first grader at my school I’ve never really liked the Purple Cow. I thought it was kind of stupid, lame, and full of children and fattening delicious milk shakes that I avoid like the plague. I never really liked it… UNTIL I started nannying. Last night, I remembered what Bradley wrote about it and I decided to take the kids there. Pros: 1. You can bring 10 million children and it’s totally acceptable 2. The milkshakes are the bomb diggity. Try the chocolate peanut butter if you’re trying to gain 15 pounds or so. Mmmmm 3. Lots of veggie options– I got the Palm Beach sandwich(pimento cheese, lettuce– on wheat bread) and it was delicious 4. It’s affordable 5. The staff is pretty friendly and fast, even though their attitudes let you know that they want to go home Cons: 1. Well, I don’t really have any– just don’t expect it to be something it’s not. It’s cheap, there will be TONS of kids, so it’s a little loud– but you can always sit as soon as you arrive, so it’s a quick meal. Might be a good place to come if you’re dating someone and trying to end it.

This place is hilarious and delicious all at once. I used to go here when I was a kid, but we even went to Purple Cow well into middle school(until my brother and I got to that too-cool teenager stage where the abundance of little kids became really annoying). I wouldn’t call this a family-friendly restaurant; I’d call it a family-focused restaurant. But if you can stand the little kids and all that comes with that(let’s say, oh, NOISE), even adults will enjoy this restaurant.(After all, my parents willingly suggested it for years.) I really don’t remember much about the food itself aside from the fact that it was pretty good, because really all we were focused on was the milkshake. You can’t leave Purple Cow without a milkshake(in fact, that’s pretty much the reason to brave the hoardes of little kids and go there — you can get decent burgers and diner food elsewhere that’s less noisy, I’m sure!!). It is, after all, decorated like an old-fashioned diner, and the milkshakes live up to that. Kids love the Purple Cow milkshake(vanilla milkshake dyed purple) in particular, although I’ve never tried it… Minus one star for ambiance(did I mention NOISYKIDS?); four stars for nostalgia and milkshakes.
