I like Dr Chao but the hour long wait to get my eyes examined(with an appointment was a little much). They had me come back to get my prescription 2 weeks later for no reason. I get to my follow up and the doctor wasn’t even in the office when I arrived. The receptionist said«how do they fit?» Then apologized for the doctor not being in the office and offered to fax or email my prescription when he arrived. I like Dr Chao but the office is poorly attended and I agree with the previous review that the office could use updating.

Since I was buying glasses from Fashion Optical next door, I ended up getting refracted for an updated prescription here out of convenience. However, I’m now planning to totally switch to Oak Lawn in the future given the quality of my first experience. Dr. Chao did a fantastic job of refracting me for a new prescription, spending much more time and effort than others I’ve used in the past to really get my prescription as perfect as possible. My prescription includes a lot of astigmatic correction, and many offices previously would only bother getting the correction right down to half diopters, and relatively coarse angle of rotation — get it in the zone, and push me out. Dr. Chao really worked to get that last ounce out of the prescription, which was very refreshing.

For me, the first and foremost quality to look for in any health provider is trust and competency. It was my first visit to an optometrist(outside of college and with actual health coverage). The staff in front were friendly and accommodating, helping me through all my questions of need and interest. Dr. Chao is the main optometrist in my perspective since the owner of Oak Lawn Eye Associates is semi-retired. Dr. Chao(aside from making me think of the Hangover Movie Series) was very patient and thorough. I asked him in length of the causes of certain diseases and how best to protect my eyes. He is definitely very detail oriented, and I left feeling good from an eye appointment. For the reasoning behind the four stars instead of five, a few small observations. Although I mentioned staff were friendly and accommodating, there were one or two who didn’t seem ready to help me when I first walked in. They sat behind the counter just working away without even looking up. Also, I do feel like the interior could be updated a little.

I had given up on contacts long ago but decided to try again. Dr Chao took the time to find out what worked for me, I couldn’t be happier and have recommended him to several people.
