Ok I am completely torn on the rating here. I enjoyed my meal mostly, but PRICING is freaking high. Fresh seafood costs. I get it. One other review mentioned the entrée prices need to be $ 5 – 8 lower, and I wish that were the case. Rex’s on Lovers is also high priced, but the product is good. I won’t knock the rating down to three stars because this may be the economics of getting good fresh fish. Tuna tartare appetizer is delicious-has a sesame oil flavor, with Sriracha sauce drizzled on the plate, and a nice green caviar lumped on top. I would have enjoyed more toasted bread points than what was served, but the crackers on the table helped. My flounder special was fresh and good but neutrally salted and seasoned. The sautéed spinach was just barely wilted-almost like a spinach salad. Not bad. Cheesy grits were a little watery but had good flavor. My mom and son enjoyed their crab cakes. Lively atmosphere on a Friday night. Place caters to an older demo, although the patio with a guitarist was nice. I can’t say I want to return though due to the prices. I would rather spend $ 200 at Tei Tei where I will be wowed by many of my selections instead of $ 33 for an entrée(crab cake was less– maybe $ 22) at Rex’s where I will say«not bad». That’s just my preference. Still, having it as an option for my mom, who really enjoys this type of restaurant, will make me pull for it to succeed and I hope to try more and better options next time I go. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 just wishing it well.

I love love this place. I was so happy to find a place with steamer clams. They may not be on the menu and they normally have them. The bartender gave us a tip to add steamed spinach. Tasty! My husband and I like to eat at the bar. We have met fun people and the bartenders are great. It was great seeing Clifton who came from Rock Fish. We have tried many of the dishes. The fish is always super fresh and delicious. The market has great food to go. The prices seem reasonable. I am glad a high quality fish market and restaurant is in the neighborhood. It’s comfy not too fancy but not eating greasy fish at a picnic table either.

Just walked out after being seated on the patio and ignored for 10 minutes. The hostess smiled blankly at us as we left and said«Have a great night» — failing to recognize that she had just seated us and we couldn’t possibly have eaten anything. Very poor form. Dream Café around the corner is kicking your behind and they aren’t even open for dinner yet.

Come on Rex’s! Tried your happy hour. $ 5 for a select number of drinks that were in very small glasses. The HH is not a good deal. The appetizers were very good, though — calamari and oysters. We’ll go back to try the food for dinner. Love this location, wish they had a better happy hour. I’d probably stay and eat dinner.

Want to like this place so bad. This area is dying for higher end restaurants. Rex could fill that niche, but needs to change. Pricing is outrageous for the level of service and food. Some things are great. Fish is fresh. Waitstaff needs much improvement. I’ve had lukewarm soup here, Iced tea that had coffee in it, etc. eaten here multiple times with similar results. Ideas for improvements. Tablecloths and place settings, uniforms for waiters, more focus on checking food as it comes out of the kitchen. Or… lower entrée pricing about $ 5 – 10 a dish. Don’t try to be a diner look/service with upscale pricing. We want you to succeed!

We love the salmon, we get it at he market and bring the smoked salmon home. Nice chowder but would have preferred a small take home container rather than a huge plastic container, also didn’t like that it was frozen solid! The crab cakes are good, we had them in the restaurant. Always a nice selection of sides to choose from. Wait staff is nice but for the prices I expect a different caliber of service. Wish your staff would respect guests in the restaurant and offer them the right of way as well as being knowledgable of your menu items. Like i said subpar wait staff.

The food is pretty good but the manager David is a complete moron. How they have this complete jackass running a business is a mystery to me. Turnover rate is high. Go to Dallas fish market for a real dining experience this place is a joke

Awesome food. The seafood scampi is amazing. Calamari is deep fried to what seemed like catfish seasoning which it was good. Recommend placing a Tatar sauce with the plate. Waiter tall gentlemen is awesome. Wished the big black board was updated… It was a Tuesday when we ate there but it was all wrong.

Sorry Rex but I was bringing someone new to a place that I was really nice but alas you decided to close for lunch most of the week. I’ve been several times since my first and have been wowed each time. Sad to see that you couldn’t give the lunch crowd more time to find you out. I still think you are on the right track but at least post your times outside so we didn’t have to chase someone down to find out. Good luck.

Outstanding Oysters and Lobster Rolls. Both were among the best I’ve had and I travel a lot.

Jamie and I brunched here today, and it was fabulous: — eggs benedict: perfectly prepared and served with fruit and a side of crispy hash browns, excellent — lobster roll: I ordered mine with a fried egg on the top, and it was amazing, served on brioche with a side of gently sauteed baby spinach — coffee: La Crema, the only coffee Jamie will drink black — mimosa: $ 4, refreshing and delicious Loved Rex’s for brunch– we’ll be back soon.

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of my heart breaking. I was giddily awaiting an awesome fresh fish restaurant in our neighborhood. But after our first visit, it’s going to be hard to get my husband to give it another try. First, the atmosphere is just… weird. For a «chop house» with prices in the $ 30 and up range for an entrée, you expect something a little nicer than lawn furniture, IKEA curtains and wobbly tables. But I could look past all that because I really, really wanted to love this place. Then there’s the waitress. She can’t really recommend anything because«it’s all good.» Well, okay. There are a gazillion things on the menu, plus 6 – 7 specials and a list of ever changing side dishes. Guess I’m on my own. But it’s all good, right? I order the mahi mahi special(blackened and topped with a cream sauce) with sautéed spinach and sautéed mushrooms. Sounds promising. What came out was the driest, most tasteless piece of fish I’ve ever had. It was as chewy as a chicken breast, cooked several minutes longer than it needed. Mushrooms and spinach were fine, but similar to what I can make at home. I mentioned it to the waitress when she came by and her response was«I wish you’d told me when I first checked on you.» Before I took a bite? Ummm, ok. And then she said mahi mahi is always a dry fish(?) and suggested I should’ve ordered something else. Which would’ve been grand if she’d made that suggestion before we ordered, instead of insisting«everything’s great here.» The manager came out and apologized and offered to comp the meals or give us a free dessert. We really appreciated that, and in the end, we declined and explained that we really want them to take this feedback and improve. Our total bill for two people was over $ 100. Probably the worst hundred-dollar meal I’ve ever had. Please get it together. I want to have a reason to give this place another shot.

I am a huge fan of Rex’s Lovers location and was so excited about the new Mockingbird location opening up. We started with tuna tar tar… the absolute best… tasty with the perfect amount of spice/heat!!! I followed with the Chilean sea bass for my entrée with sides of sautéed spinach and cheesy grits. LOVED it, perfectly cooked, fresh and flavorful!!! My husband had a ‘board special’, trout with a honey siracha glaze, he was beyond pleased. Our daughter had gumbo and a side salad for her entrée. She really enjoyed it. I had a bite(or two or three), I love gumbo and tend to be picky, loved the flavor! We had a great dining experience… relaxed atmosphere with fresh, delicious seafood, beautifully presented and great service! So nice to know that I can pick Rex’s, at any location(I read there will be another location at the new Farmers Market opening in December) and know I will enjoy the experience!!!

Love this place! The food is so yummy :) couldn’t be more excited to have this place in Lakewood! Great atmosphere for kids & families. I ordered Scallops and oysters to start and they were sooo good! Blackened redfish for my meal… Nothing disappointed. The food is definitely top quality This is one of the only places I will eat seafood cause I know there are very few places around Dallas that get it fresh.

What just happened? We are sitting at a bar laughing at the bizarre experience we just had here. We came here at 7:45pm on a Saturday night. The place was packed! We put our name down and got a few drinks at the bar. Our table was ready after 20 minutes or so and we got off to a great start. We ordered Blue Point Oysters, but were told they were sold out. We asked for something comparable, and our sever came back and said they actually got some Blue Points in that morning. Ok? Great! They were delicious. We were pumped for this meal. Unfortunately that’s where the greatness came to screeching halt and rolled rapidly downhill. They ran out of literally everything our friend ordered. The fish and the sides. We were told had we not come«so late» it wouldn’t have happened. Noted: 7:45 is too late for dinner. The server told my friend he’d make up for it by subbing him a free salad and baked potato. They forgot our soups. After our meals came we decided we didn’t want them. The front door we sat near was broken and stayed open after each guest left, blowing cold air onto our table. We mentioned it to the server and he said they were aware but it was too expensive to fix over Thanksgiving break. We got our bill and handed the server our cards. When the server came back I noticed he had charged us $ 20 for my friend’s comped baked potato. He couldn’t fix the error on the computer so he brought us back cash. We asked to speak to a GM, but there was no manager. What a train wreck. We want this place to succeed as Lakewood residents, but feel a little cheated after dropping any amount of money, let alone $ 180 here. Please get it together, Rex’s! We want to like you.

First time visiting and was not aware of their pricing. Being a new location in the area by our house; I was expecting a very casual place. Driving by previously lead me to believe so due to all the families with children, a location not known for high end restaurants, and the décor. Boy was I shocked when they brought out two small scallops for the scallops wrapped in bacon for $ 15. Wine was priced about average. Shared the appetizer with my wife and my $ 7.50 scallop was way over cooked. Tasted like rubber wrapped in bacon. I will say they hit it out of the ballpark with their entrée; a grilled red fish. Spinach and potatoes were epic. Service was outstanding and very friendly. Three stars because their pricing was way off for the neighborhood.

Five Stars in Five Days you say? Well when you have been running a first class operation on Lovers Lane for a decade you get a little swagger and can pull off such amazing feats as a five star review after being open for only 5 days! I visited today expecting the wheels to be a little wobbly during the«soft opening» phase and was impressed that these guys were ready to roll! For lunch we had the wedge salad with blue cheese dressing and added smoked salmon. The GROUPERREUBENSANDWICH. Why all caps? Eat it and you will do the same in your review :) What is new here? Well if the Chop House in the name didn’t give it away let me give you a *Spoiler Alert* They have amazing steaks on the menu! As they do with seafood they only serve the best when it comes to steak, so prepare to be impressed. I’m going back for dinner tomorrow. Surf n Turf it is! Your friendly A-List Concierge, Hopkins
