My son, Gibson, is 7 and just finished his 3rd Rock101 course. He started with guitar and later found he has a preference and a knack for drums. He has had different 101 teachers and different private instructors over the past year and has enjoyed them all. Gibson would not do well in «normal» music classes — not at this age anyway. The social element of SOR keeps him interested and wanting to do well for his peers and teachers. My wife and I always invite friends and family to the gigs. So much fun. G has played at Trees, Three Links and House of Blues. I wish I could have gone to SOR when I was a kid!

My 12 year old son was so excited to go to School of Rock hoping to get to play with other kids. Just days before my son’s first concert there, the director realized he himself, hadn’t prepared everyone enough, got all stressed, and started getting really rude to my son(my son by the way was one of the few who was prepared.) My son said the director threw an object at him in an angry fit saying he wanted his attention. We questioned the director about this because my son almost couldn’t perform he was so upset and humiliated. The director told us he deserved it, then apparantly told some of the older boys to cut my son’s guitar solo on stage during the concert which they did. My son couldn’t even look at the others after the concert he was so upset. To this day, my son refuses to play in public even though he is a very talented musician. I can’t tell you how sad and angry this makes me. Grownups abusing authority is inexcusable especially when they promote themselves as so supportive.

This is a comment regarding the birthday party accommodations. Horrible. No staff help. Zero direction or coordination. You the parent do 95% of the work and that means(amongst everything else) cutting your cake and distributing it. I had no faith in the staff. they were young teenagers waiting for us to be done. Zero involvement.

We love School of Rock! I’ve had 2 kids in their program over the last 6 or so years and can’t say enough good things about them. It’s a fun way for the kids to learn to play instruments, by immersing them in a band-like environment with live shows in cool local music clubs and venues. Teachers are all working musicians, some of them from bands you might know. They work with kids as young as pre-school and even have lessons for the parents, too. All skill levels are welcome.
