What a stellar organization and life changing experience! I participated for 2 seasons with the Hike team in my early twenties and it had such a positive impact on me. Not only did I enjoy learning more about hiking — and discovering that Dallas and Fort Worth actually have some hills to hike — but I also stumbled upon so many fantastic friendships that have stood strong throughout the years. I was the youngest participant on my team by quite a few years(maybe a decade or two) the first season but those new friends taught me so much. I didn’t have a strong connection to the cause when I joined; I just wanted to get involved. One of the main questions you get asked in the first few weeks is what motivated you to join the team. We would share stories from husbands and wives, children and parents, friends and co-workers. Every story touched my heart. Additionally, being involved with LLS through TNT opened me up to people in my life who had a connection to blood disease. One was my dentist who surprisingly gave me $ 100 donation after I mailed him a letter, another was a good friend’s step-dad who ended up receiving a bone marrow transplant and a third was a co-worker who announced just before my trip that he had been diagnosed with Leukemia. As these stories and these people became a part of my life and my journey, it made the final adventure even more meaningful and somewhat magical. My first hike took me to the Grand Canyon and my second to Big Bend(TX). I hope to do another event with TNT again. It does take a large commitment — giving up your Saturdays for training for months at a time. Everyone says that the fundraising will come easy; you never believe them no matter how comfortable you are asking or how outgoing you may be, but they always end up being right. People are amazing and if you tell your story and strive to make a difference, you will get all of the help that you need to reach your goals.

I’m probably biased here, but I love the North Texas Chapter of Team in Training! I’ve been around this group for them for over 3 years now and I cannot seem to pull myself away. I’ve fundraised for several events and have been a mentor for multiple triathlon teams, and I cannot see myself stopping anytime soon. I can honestly say that I have met some of the most wonderful and fantastic people thru this organization and have made definite life-long friends. The staff is amazing and all clearly love their jobs. They work hard to not only help you reach your fundraising goals, but they make sure you get all the training you need as well. They really want you to not only finish your event, but to enjoy every step of the journey. If you’re looking for a way to get more involved, TNT is a fantastic option. No experience necessary and no athletic talent required :)
