We were in the Danbury area and craving some Latin food. I quickly Unilocaled this location out and we went to try it out. Like Pioco’s in Orlando, it is a very affordable deli-style restaurant, where you look at what’s available through the glass counter, and pick the rice and beans and meat that you want. Taste-wise, it was good enough to satiate the desire for Latin food but it was nothing outstanding. Their yucca was topped with red onions instead of the Cuban mojo I’m used to, so I didn’t pick that. We both settled for arroz con gandules, with one order having red kidney beans and pulled pork, and the other one black beans and grilled chicken. The food was tasty enough and worth the price, but they were overall quite generic in comparison to the Latin food I’m accustomed to. Also, weird that they didn’t carry Ironbeer, the Miami Cuban root beer, but maybe this far north, it is not as known.

I love that this place combines great latin food, a meat butcher deli, and a mini market that carries groceries from various countries from Latin America, including my own. Whenever I am in the area I always stop by for the savory latin dishes, from a variety of meats and sauces to tasty sides. The rice and beans are just great. My regular favorite is the rice, black beans, pork and fried sweet plantains. Their refreshment cooler in the back is packed with a wide variety of soft drinks, juices etc… and my favorite, the guarana soda from Brazil. I have not had a bad meal at Amigo, and I will keep coming back for more. I want to try more varieties from this place in the future.

Great stop for a quick Spanish rice and beans fix. The food is already prepared so you can face plant into some Carne asada almost seconds after walking into this place. Wash it down with the red Country Club or Goya coconut soda if you’re a real G.

5 stars because Amigo’s is definitely ‘as good as it gets’. The Cubano is the best I’ve had, bar none — the roast pork is succulent and a key factor, but all the ingredients merge to form the perfect Cuban sandwich — one that keeps me coming back whenever I get the urge. The buffet of meats and sides is awesome and the fried pork is an unexpectedly light and moist winner compared to other places I’ve had it. If you’re in the area, a must-try for lunch!

I find that Amigos serves good cuban sandwiches and some other pretty good latin food options. However, I do do not think they are are out of this world or excellent as some other reviewers seem to. So, this is not a place that I would make a special trip for. But, if you live in the Danbury area or going through the city at lunch/dinne time, it is most certainly worth checking out and forming your own opinion. This is a casual place to get a filling meal at an affordable price and is a nice change of pace if you do not often eat latin food.

I used to frequent this place when I worked nearby. The service was always great and the food usually was too. They always have daily specials. I would usually get a chicken dish with yellow rice. Occasionally the chicken was a little overcooked but always tasty. It often was too much food for me to eat for lunch but it tasted good reheated on the stovetop. I highly recommend the Cuban sandwich. It was always loaded with juicy pulled pork that was lightly seasoned. Sometimes the pork was very fatty so I would take that part out. But otherwise, it’s a great sandwich. They also have some american food like burgers, sandwiches and grilled cheese. I have never had any of them because I always wanted the Latin food instead. They do sell meats you would typically see at a butcher’s. I have never had breakfast there but I heard it is good. It is also a Latin grocery where you can buy some groceries that you cannot find at the nearby chain groceries. They have a few tables inside and two picnic tables outside. The prices are super inexpensive and they have $ 5 lunch specials!!!

I feel very short changed and I didn’t get a good experience. My gf wanted the roasted pork over rice and I wanted the Cuban. They were out of roasted pork so we both had to get something else. She got the pork ribs, they were ok, lots of bones and fat. I got the Cuban with chicken(recommended by the guy serving us, he looked trustworthy), it was terrible. The chicken was very dry and the bread was cold, aren’t Cubans supposed to be hot?! Oh, and they barely gave us any beans with the chicken, I asked for more beans and it was all sauce. I asked again for more beans and it took forever and he had to microwave them, not appetizing. If I lived in the area I would go back for the roasted pork.

Just had lunch @ Amigos — Oxtails with rice and beans. The meat was tender and falling off the bone goodness and the rice and beans were awesome. Fresh and delicious

Bacon egg cheese on a roll… Very good NY style breakfast. The storefront doesn’t do it much justice, but a great sandwich nonetheless.

Whoa– rice/beans and oxtail. OK– so I am no expert on Cuban/Dominican food– but– This place is great– anytime meat both on or off a bone has been slow cooking in juices/sauces/stews ALL day and just rendering away in its own goodness– my mouth is watering just thinking about it. They make an awesome yellow rice– and have both a black bean and brown beans– and then a HUGE selection of meats slow cooked in sauces. skip the cuban and go for the café menu style– come on– meats stewed all day– just falling off the bone!

I was led here by the Unilocal app, as Gina and I were looking to get some sandwiches before heading to a concert at the Ives. After reading so much about the Cuban sandwich, it was a no-brainer for me. Unfortunately, I have had way better! I was told they were out of pork, so I could get the chicken version – that was ok with me. However when I sat down to eat my cubano, I found that I was missing other key ingredients, such as mustard and pickle! What a shame, especially because otherwise, the sandwich would have been great, especially for the price. Gina had a chicken cutlet sandwich, made to her liking, so no problems there. I’d say better luck next time, but since I’m not in this area very often, there probably won’t be a next time for me.

Danbury is quite the haul from my area of the state, but I do have to go occasionally for work. The bright side is that a trip to Danbury means lunch at Amigo’s. Amigo’s is quite literally a market: there is a large part of the store that sells groceries. However, there is also a food counter that churns out some delicious food. My go-to choice is the Cubano sandwich with a side of tostones(fried green plantains). The Cubano is the best I’ve had in the Northeast, mostly because the pork is so delicious. The tostones have a rich flavor, and go well with the sandwich. On separate occasions I’ve had the rice and beans(excellent, filling) and the«holy moly» chicken sandwich. Everything has been delicious. On every visit the staff has been very friendly, and service is fast. There is limited seating, so your best bet is to take your order to go. Also, parking can be a challenge with a small lot on a busy street.

Unilocal — eres la bomba! You steered me right yet again! It’s been 4 days since eating their Cuban sandwich and I’m still thinking about it. They really know what they’re doing here. Delicious, well-made Dominican/Cuban food served up with a smile. After ordering my sandwich, I got a nice«Que mas, mi amor?»(What else, my love?) I smiled & ordered some rice & beans too.(Hooray, carbs!) This place could become a habit… maybe I should start looking for a place in Danbury…

This place makes a really kick-ass Cuban sandwich. The rest of the food looks really good as well, but I haven’t tried anything else because I always gravitate back towards the Cuban. The butcher section looks to have some nice cuts of meat as well.

Amazing authentic Spanish food. Chicken and yellow rice with beans, everytime. Also have AMAZING breakfast sandwiches. This place is a staple in the hometown of Danbury to many… and I hear they are opening a real sit down restaurant now. I can’t wait to visit to try it out! If I had a dollar for how many times I have ordered in from here(only $ 5 minimum!) or someone said«Definitely want some Amigos today.» I’d be a millionnaire!

I only had one dish but that dish was fantastic. When it comes to rice and beans — Amigos knows how to do it right. I had them add this chicken dish(which they had on the bone or in boneless format) but I chose on the bone. It was apparent that the chicken had been slow cooked because it was still juicy and came right off the bone. There are so many other dishes that I need to try. The price is also amazing, you’ll get a lot of(great) food for a little amount of money.
