Thank God that they are out of business. Not even sure that it was food. Terrible service and awful salsa. Good riddance

I cannot believe this is Mexican food! So bland… I order a quesadilla and the cheese was tasteless too. Not to mention the refried beans, rice and sour cream was tasteless too! Chips didn’t has any salt and the salsa was water down too!

We love it here. We come straight from swimming lessons almost every week. The kids are always hungry and they gobble up black beans and rice. The food is always very fresh and the service is the best I’ve ever seen at a fast food restaurant.

Traveling with the kids, stopped over for a quick dinner — YUCK! I ordered steak fajita tacos, with rice and beans. It was so terrible, with this weird vinegar flavor that I thought I would vomit. The steak looked funny too. I threw the food away and went next door for a slice of Pizza(delicious). I grew up eating real Mexican, cooked by my Mexican mom, and to those that say this is authentic, I’m sorry, it’s not!

The standard steak quesadilla really made my day today. I like it here because it’s so much more quiet than Chipotle, which is nice when you’re on your lunch break. The chips aren’t that good but they’re free so I still like them. I’ll be coming back!

Good, fresh food. I got the tres pork tacos which were excellent! I do enjoy their salsa they have a nice salsa bar with three different ones to choose from –clearly freshly made. I’m not a fan of spicy foods so their fresh tomato salsa is perfect for me. They also have a hot sauce bar which the rest of the family enjoys

First off, I have to say something, get something off my chest: I was born in Connecticut, I *am* a yankee, bu-ut… People up in the north here irritate me, they don’t understand southwestern foods and complain about things that, down in the southwest USA, we revere(I’ve lived in TX, NM, AZ, and CA all). Desert Moon *is* a chain restaurant, but the food is pretty good considering it is here in the northeast USA. You folks that put this down don’t understand southwestern foods. It’s sad really. There are no pupusarias, no real taquerias, no real Tex Mex and you folks don’t know what you are missing out on. Now, Desert Moon is the closest I’ve had to what I could get in Houston at chain places, sure, the food isn’t glamorous, but it’s real, it’s very healthful food, they do vegan right. The menu isn’t too complicated. The corn tortillas are wonderful, better than anything I get get in the store(I’d have to still have a tortilla press and buy Masa Harina to do better). The meats are decent, but since I’m a flexitarian(eat meat only occasionally), I’ve eaten both the meatless dishes and the meat dishes. Yes, it’s chain food, but it ain’t half bad, and that is a good thing considering I’ve had the best from cities from Austin to San Fransisco, Albuquerque to Tucson. Yes, Dona Ninfa’s stuff in Houston is better, but Danbury ain’t Houston. If you aren’t too much of a stiff necked yankee about food, you will like Desert Moon, I suggest a quesadilla and soup if you are unsure. I wouldn’t listen to some of the reviewers here because they just don’t understand this type of food. Down Southwest we live on corn tortillas, they are a staple in our diet. My first wife was a Central American and most of my friends down there were Latino. I’ve lived it, so, unless you want to go to Phoenix or Sandia, S’antone or S’andiego, take my word for it, this is pretty much as good as you will find here in CT with a couple exceptions. Keep an open mind. By the way, the house salsa is inventive and wonderful. Don’t come wining it’s too hot, because it ain’t even.

Good food, a chips and salsa bar, and a Coke Freestyle machine. All-in-all a great place to eat and chill.

Very nice place to get a drink taco salad or even a beer. They have kids meals and a killer soda selection. The place is clean and the atmosphere is fun. My fav is the chopped chicken salad but every thing is good there. Make sure you get a club card you get a free meal on your 10 visit I think. Met the owner today too very sweet. Thanks

Restaurant needs cleaned, is very run down, just look at the floors. Bathrooms are dirty and had NO soap. Floors are vile. Food mediocre

Convenient for on and off the highway. The food was salty. I had the steak taco salad. there was a load of juice in the bottom which made the shell soggy. It was kind of gross. My son liked his chicken burrito. My husband thought his food was salty too and he usually adds salt to salt. The coca cola machine and free chips and salsa were great.

Stopped by on the way home from the Hershey Classic Car swap meet. In a word the place is excellent! Bad reviews are difficult for me to understand. I grew up in Tucson which is known for having some of the best Mexican food and I thought the food and service were excellent. Hat steak tacos and chips and queso. The salsa bar had a nice variety and the hot sauce station was a nice touch. On top of the great food the service was Nordstrom level. Come here and I bet you will get the same.

I should have checked, when I placed my order, whether they had one of those«tortilla steaming» devices. My tortilla for my burrito could have used that, or maybe a bottle of Oil of Olay. Shards of dry tortilla were flaking off as I ate it. The burrito itself wasn’t quite full, though did I really want«filler» in it?(For me, filler would be something like rice — you do have several options for the filling(s) you want in your burritos. I do like Desert Moon in general, but it does feel to me that things have gone downhill just a tad. I do like the guacamole and especially the salsa here, as well as the fact that you have access to unlimited tortilla chips and the salsas. But these do not compensate for a mediocre meal.

The staff was very nice. We came later in the evening & it wasn’t busy. Relatively clean and good amount of seating. That was for the positives. The food was«Ehhhh» but we weren’t expecting anything fantastic or even authentic. But it’s a mall chain So with low expectations & an empty stomach I had a high tolerance for mediocre. Sadly enough I was disappointed. The chicken in the burrito was VERY salty, the salsas bland, chips were just ok. The lady at the counter was very nice and got me a new burrito w/hamburger instead.. I rarely send food back but the chicken was inedible. I probably won’t return here unless it’s a last resort. And people– the Duchess down the street has the same soda machine w/moderately better food.

Haven’t even gotten my food yet but I had a difficult order and the guy at the register just worked with me to find out what I needed for my body. I ordered a side of chips and queso too and he was just like, «hey, man. If you’re eating here, chips are free so you can just order the queso. Saves you a couple bucks.» My wait for food took the amount of time it took to write this review too.

Yuck, yuck, yuck. Cheese dip was gross. Burrito bowl was gross. Chips were gross. This is the worst food that I have eaten in Danbury, CT. I wish that the food was good as I love Tex-mex and this place is close to out home, but this place is just nasty.

If you are craving Mexican food, this place will hit the spot for very little $$. I love this place. F*ck the haters. Try Taco Salad bowl or 2 tacos platters… I always go beef :)

Stopped in for lunch today while in the area… Try to imagine Chipotle with a confusing menu, higher prices, and no flavor. THAT’S Desert Moon in a nutshell. I ordered the steak & black bean burrito, but it ended up being about 80% rice. Maybe 5 small morsels of steak mixed in sporadically. Just no seasoning or flavor whatsoever! I give 1 extra star for the cool Coke machine.

when you think mexican fast food you probably associate a place like this with taco bell, or moe’s. for me, this place is head over heels better than those two. ingredients tasted fresher, and the vegetarian options were much more interesting with organic tofu being a nice choice. if you like your soft drinks, they have one of those new coke machines that have 100+ flavors too, so you can try a new soda every time you go. free chips were good, could have been a little fresher. salsas were a-ok. for dessert they even have your favorite frozen novelty, choco-tacos! parking lot can be busy with trader joes people bustling in and out.

I mean, it tastes like restaurant chain food. Free chips are hit or miss. Steak taco salad was nothing amazing. But there aren’t too many options in this strip mall.
