Came here for breakfast because I really wanted eggs benedict. The ham wasn’t as thick as I expected but the sandwich itself was decent. The food was OK but the waiter was really nice and attentive.

I came for breakfast, eagerly awaiting breakfast ham. I was severely disappointed by the lack of breakfast ham. Instead of a thick slab of cooked pig, there was thin deli meat. This broke my heart. I ordered sausage instead… which tasted remarkably similar to Jimmy Dean’s microwaveable sausage patties. The bacon was good though. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, so there’s that. Over all I’d give this bistro a C+…I probably wouldn’t return.

I came in I was seated I ate it was great our server Daniel was super friendly and very knowledgeable with the menu and teas pretty good experience. I’m bummed they no longer serve the banana foster French toast but I did order beer bread French toast with coconut and pecans and it was pretty good.

I went there for lunch with my daughter. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a lunch item that included a half sandwich, home made soup, spinach salad, fresh fruit, and crème brûlée. It was delicious. I will definitely be back.

Amazing food! A very cutesy environment. The food was incredible and the potatoes are perfectly seasoned. The only disappointing part was our waitress! She was incredibly hostile and rude; she even rolled her eyes at me. Visited us only a handful of times. We were waited on more by other employees. She didn’t honor the 10% check-in coupon. This was my first visit, but I have wanted to try this local place for quite awhile. The food was up to par but the service was not.

The manager, Suzanne was helpful and flexible while planning a graduation brunch for my daughter. She even printed«Happy Graduation,(Daughter’s name)» on the top of the special menus she created for our event :) Thank you so much, Suzanne, for making this graduation brunch special for us. Even though the place was super busy, our server was attentive(I wish I could remember her name for Kudos!) ! My daughter loved the event and I couldn’t be happier :)

Get the club sandwich on beer bread. You won’t regret it. The edges of the bread are sweet and salty and crispy. It’s one of the best sandwiches I have ever had and so unique. Portion is incredible for the quality of the ingredients and the price you pay. Huge pieces of avocado. Add the tomato jam for $ 1 to make it extra fancy. The entire menu looks wonderful, but I’m happy to say that I will come for that sandwich every time. P. S. I asked my server if they sell the beer bread, he came back and said he had permission to sell me one loaf for $ 7.50. It was a giant and dense loaf of goodness. Served it at home with dinner and everyone raved. Used the rest to make sandwiches. I swear they could sell only this bread and still be in business.

The service was really great. Our server was Daniel. I got the fatty melt and it was a nice lean buffalo burger with amazing potato salad. My friend got smoked salmon salad that looked equally amazing. This place is cute and quaint with local artists decorating the pale sage green walls. Seating they have tables with little individual unique salt and pepper shakers. They bring little bread muffins with flavored butter before the meal and it is a lovely little tea room café. My burger was $ 13 and the salad was$ 12… Coffee $ 3 A little pricey but would pay again for the great service.

I’m not sure why it took me so long to try this place… But I’m so glad I finally did. I tried this quaint little place for the first time today and I will most definitely be going back. The atmosphere is cozy and quirky; a perfect fit for the Denton Square! The wait staff is friendly and inviting. I had trouble deciding what to get because everything on the menu looked so delicious! I ended up ordering the southwest omelet wrap(I think that’s what it was called?) and it was SOO good. I can’t wait to go back and try more. This might be my new, local go-to spot for breakfast/lunch! I definitely recommend.

Finally been three times, unfortunately the last time wasn’t as good as the first two. I really love their broccoli salad and their grilled meats. The chicken and the steak for the salads are nicely grilled, which is great when you want something without bread but not boring. The other salads have been a little bland, especially when they have pasta and tomatoes. The part I didn’t like was that the policy on picking your bread for sandwiches is inconsistent. Sometimes I can get a sandwich with one type of bread, and sometimes I can’t. Sometimes a bread can be substituted and sometimes it can’t. So if you really like a sandwich, but not the bread, you’re stuck for that visit, even if last time you were able to ask for a different bread. Myeh. I find that annoying, since I like particular breads with particular fillings.

I used to love this place, but I swear it has gone downhill. When I first moved to Denton 6 years ago, this restaurant had the coolest atmosphere, it was like being back in New Orleans with all the hanging lights and cool art on the walls. Now it’s just like fake leaves and the décor is just a lot more boring. Also, they took out sodas, and I’m sure they have a financial reason for doing so but it just makes it less enjoyable for me. The muffins are great, as well as the homemade butter, and the food is still good, it’s just not as great as it used to be.

One of Denton’s best kept secrets, right on the square! Amazing food, just wish they still did dinner. It was to die for. Want to know the best secret of all? They have bottomless mimosa brunches on Saturday and always serve beer to go, in both plastic cups and growlers!

The Chestnut Tree is different than all the other restaurants on the square in Denton. The options are a lot lighter and healthier than the pub food and dives in the area, and that makes it a must-visit if you’re downtown and not in the mood for burgers or fried stuff! I like all the man menu stuff, but I could really use just a regular beef burger. That being said, all the buffalo burgers seem to be delicious. The pulled pork was awesome too, and the potato salad is really really good but sometimes it’s INTENSELY mayonnaise-y. My fiancé like all the salads and soups and sandwiches she’s gotten, and that’s really what this place is about. It’s a cozy place and the staff is very nice. Totally worthy of a few visits!

Drool drool drool. My favorite brunch spot in Denton! Could die for their raspberry butter and their meatloaf with those ginger-orange infused carrots! So sad that they no longer serve that hazelnut coffee(or maybe they still do but not on my latest visit), but it’s so smooth and nutty. The chicken pot pie is also very delicious but always run out. Love the new mimosa bar too! Ps, one of my favorite bathrooms in Denton haha

I came here for lunch with some coworkers while in town for research. It’s in a great location on the courthouse square and is in a historic building. The interior is comfortable. The menu was decent. You could order brunch, sandwiches, salads, or wraps. They also did combo plates, which was nice. All sandwiches come with chips, of course. I ordered a ½ caprese and ½ salad, my coworkers ordered a roast beef sandwich with potato salad and a turkey sandwich with chips. The food came quickly and was good. The salad was super fresh and I was pleased with my hot ½ caprese. The portions were good… not too much but also not too little. This place wasn’t amazing, but considering the lack of other options nearby, it was good and fresh and filling. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but I would go here again.

Cute décor, nice and relaxed atmosphere, friendly service! But I feel like the food was kind of pricey… Like, 8~10 on just salad? I don’t know, maybe that’s just me. Wish I could give 3.5 stars! I do know, however, that their food is good quality and fresh. I overheard other people’s impressions on their dishes and they loved their food so~ I got the 2 dish combo(choose any two items from the lunch menu for $ 9): spinach salad and ham&cheese sandwich. I would say this would be a good place to each a light lunch(at least, for the dish I got).

Oh my, The Chestnut Tree, how shall I speak of thee? Day in and day out, they are a solid place for breakfast, lunch or a cup of coffee or tea with a friend. A GREAT place! But where they REALLY shine is when they have special events. Dinners paired with beer or wine! Seasonal events like their annual tea. Suzanne has grown and blossomed and is, for my money, one of the two best chefs in Denton.(he other one is the owner of Keii Chi, which is saying a lot because the Chestnut Tree creations are much more affordable and are still wonderful and memorable. The next time you hear the Tree is having an event, book your seats. Don’t delay! You won’t be sorry!

My fiancé and I went to Chesnut Tree for a late lunch. The place is cute inside, low-lighting with some interesting art on the walls. We were seated at a small table that seemed to be oddly placed, but I guess for a tea bistro that’s okay. We ordered the hummus with kalmata olives and pita chips. There seemed to be a lot broken chips than whole ones, maybe this is usual? I ordered the combo with half a turkey avocado sandwich on wheat(from the other Unilocalers, I should’ve decided on the beer bread instead) and the baked potato soup. The sandwich was pretty typical, but the soup was definitely tasty. My fiancé ordered the barbeque sandwich with the baked potato salad(it has all the ingredients as a hot baked potato but it’s served cold). I totally snuck several bites of it, and wished I had that instead of my soup! While he had a euphoric moment with his sandwich, I was just«meh» with mine. It was yummy but not out of this world. HOWEVER, I WILL be back to try dessert. That chocolate pie kept whispering: «Eat me», and I should have listened.

Prior to this weekend I hadn’t the desire to step foot into Chestnut Tree because it seemed like a place for gossipy old ladies. Come to find out, I was right! I have never seen so many faces in botox stasis in my life! Anyway, it was a pretty appropriate place to take my boyfriend’s parents for their first visit to Denton. It’s the kind of place that’s safe to take parents. The décor is very much like my grandmother’s garden room with shades of pale green and pink and all manner of tea-drinking paraphernalia. I noticed it was sort of dimly lit which I found odd for a primarily brunch place which made stepping outside afterward quite a sunlight shock to eyeballs. The food quality to cost ratio was equal. I had the potpie which was delicious. I was impressed by the fact they didn’t cheat and only apply crust to the top of the pot like some lazier restaurants will. The strawberry iced tea was refreshing as well and the tiny appetizer muffins were pleasant. My boyfriend had the salmon eggs benedict and was incredibly disappointed that it came to him cold. Yes, cold. Not even lukewarm but cold. I took a bite and the flavors were good but it’s clearly not the kind of thing best eaten at mortuary temperatures. His parents seemed to enjoy their salads and paninis and form what I could tell, the reaction to the potato salad was positive. Since Denton lacks many choices in the brunch arena, I will have to say that Chestnut Tree is currently the best option. I only give it three stars because of the cold benedict, but I would definitely eat here again for brunch. My only regret was not getting another strawberry iced tea to go.

Fantastic food and outstanding service! I’m not a fan of the décor(water stained ceiling tiles covered with faux foliage and cheesy quotes on the walls) but the atmosphere is still pleasant and not at all distracting from the affordable menu of superb dishes. The wait staff is friendly and helpful and food is served quickly. Portions are also large and not overpriced. I look forward to when I’m back in town to stop in again!
