Not what I expected from the reviews… We started off with the chips and salsa, the chips being very stale as in VERY chewy. I ordered tacos and a burrito, the chile was just bland no flavor whatsoever and my tacos had very little meat. I had to give them two stars because the service was awesome. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, but I cannot sacrifice taste for service.

This was our first stop on our first Taco Crawl of 2016(and Hubby’s first Taco Crawl ever!) Based on these Unilocal Reviews, and on Hubby’s somewhat«limited» Palette, this is what we ordered. 4 Tacos 1 Pesce(Fish) 1 Pollo(Chicken) 1 Lengua(Tongue) 1 Asada(Beef) All came with Onions and Cilantro but the fish, which came with lettuce and pico de gallo. Two Salsas were offered, Verde and Rojo. The Verde was relatively mild with Avocado and was my favorite of the night. The red was smoky and flavorful. The Fish Tacos were such a pleasant surprise, as were the Chicken! Both were chunks of meat, clearly identifiable, grilled with a fresh flavor, and generously heaped on the tortillas. Hubby gobbled them up! My Lengua was delicious, and I even enjoyed the Carne Asada, which I don’t usually like. And ooooh, that Salsa Verde! The price for 4 tacos was $ 11, which in my book is a *little* high, but I’m assuming there was an upcharge for choosing Lengua and Fish in our mix. They have a full liquor license which is nice if you want a margarita or a beer with your food. Both of us are excited to return! Follow up! WERETURNED. Like. Three days later! This time, hubby had 2 Pesce and 2 Pollo tacos… and absolutely RAVED about the Fish Tacos again! We’ve converted him from plain chicken, y’all!!! And I got crazy this time and got: 4 Tacos 1 Tripa 1 Lengua 1 Al Pastor 1 Chorizo LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE Their Tripa! It’s crisp and not greasy and very fresh tasting. Of course I loaded up with that amazing Salsa Verde but I also tried 2 more salsas, the smoky orange one and a tangy, thinner red one. All SOYUMMY! The Lengua was as great as last time, and the Chorizo, served with cubed potatoes and sliced fresh jalapeños was superb. The Al Pastor is the only bone I have to pick: Where’s My Pineapple??? This is officially Hubby’s favorite Taco Spot and it’s right up there with my top 3, which I refuse to rank. They’re ALL my favorite. Los Molcajetes definitely wins my award for Best Salsa Verde Avocado. And their tortillas are a solid #2(To El Taco Veloz… where they make them right in front of you! I mean COMEON!) So glad they’re close to my hood, too!

SUPER good. Most of the menu is in Spanish, so you may want to ask what some of the things are. The pork, goat and beef are amazing and I love all the sauces and the pickled onions. YUM and as genuine as it gets.

We eat here all the time. The people who own it are so nice. We love the Paloma and the cantarito drinks! The salsa bar is a nice touch and I love that they serve salsa and beans with their chips. It is not at all fancy, but the food is consistent and good. Use your Spanish:)

I was not a huge fan of this place. Yes, the service was great and very attentive… but the food was pretty mediocre. I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so I got the combo plate. Probably the worst enchilada I’ve ever had. Bryan got the al pastor tacos which were much better then anything on my plate, but definitely not worth returning for. We probably won’t be back any time soon. Possibly to try the Molcajete, since it is their namesake. Maybe they do that right?

We stopped in here after looking at houses with a friend. They have great green chili! I had a really good chili rellano as well. The green chili in the rellano was so flavorful, not mushy, and encased in the perfectly crispy wrapper that was lighter than most I have had. So good! Friends had chilaqueles and loved them as well.

We came here because we live nearby and I was craving tacos. Because I often crave tacos. The service was excellent. I worried when I walked in because people were chatting and watching soap operas on TV, but as soon as we needed anything they were on top of it. I liked my al pastor tacos, but they were average. Not as good as Los Carboncitos. Lacey got a combo plate. The enchilada was pretty terrible. The relleno was good. Not a bad neighborhood option, and I’m super interested to try a molcajete, but so far… average.

Great neighborhood Mexican restaurant! The fajitas, margaritas and sopapillas were delicious. Our waitress was very warm and friendly, making for a wonderful meal overall. Other pros: $ 3.75 burritos, cheap tacos, good happy hour Mon-Thur: $ 2.50 Margaritas and $ 1.50 beers.

Saturday October 12th2013: Time was about 15:40hrs ish. I am skeptical to suggest this establishment to Hubs coz his Mexican Cuisine/FOOD taste bud is of «HIGHSTANDARDS»… **Nervous Look** For one, you park your vehicle behind this establishment OR along the street parking. The parking behind this establishment is limited and tiny so I think the safer option to park is along the streets. This looks like a «neighborhood» Hispanic or Mexican establishment. Right when we enter this establishment, we went to the counter, and the lovely staff ask if we want to order to go or dining in. We said we want to dine in. We sat ourselves at one of the booth. There are plenty of seating areas, if you want to bring a BIG Group. There are also 2 other Hispanic families dining in before us. Is this a GOOD sign? I do hope so. Our lovely server gave us the Menu and ask what beverages we want. We opt to have the Fountain Coke Cola. Each beverage cup was($ 2.50). Our lovely staff send our drinks aka fountain coke cola. This was the BIGGESTCUP I have ever seen from an establishment! Woah… I whispered to myself… But what puzzled me was, one came with full of ice, and one came without ice at all. Hmmm. Hubs opt to have the one with ice, I just settled one, without ice. From the Menu, they offer a variety of dishes such as their Specials, Appetizers, Breakfast, Omelet, Breakfast Burritos, Tacos, Mexican Favorites, Combinations, Caldos, Platillos Marineros, Cocktails, Caldos Del Mar, Del Mar, Pancakes, Skillets, Salads, Chilaquiles, Burritos and Tortas to name a few. As usual, I am on the hunt for Tacos so I ask the lovely staff whether I can opt to have those. She said«YES»… Take note for the A la carta Tacos are the HARDSHELLS… but with the option of Tacos, I opt to have the following Tacos : * 1 Taco de Lengua * 1 Taco de Tripa * 1 Taco de Carne Asada * 1 Tacos de Al Carbon The total cost of All my tacos order were $ 8.50. Then the server asked whether I want to have cilantro and onions in my tacos. I said, «Yes». So you DO have an option, just ask if you are not so sure. Yes, the food came out piping hot. I like my order of Lengua and Tripa the best. The Tripa Taco has crunchy bits in them, cooked to my liking. The Lengua Taco was tender, yet so flavorful. As for the Taco de Carne Asada and Tacos de Al Carbon, I cannot differentiate which is which, but I still like all the Tacos… hence I give 3.5 stars. After having several bites, Hubs was indeed devouring his order of Carne Asada Smothered Supreme Burritos($ 7.99) and he said the beans are home-made, and NOT those Refried Beans which are from a can… When we ask the lovely staff, she said, they made their Beans from scratch. With this, Hubs is NOW in Love with this establishment and that means I am indeed in big trouble… Therefore this establishment is NOWHIS Favorite. SMOTHEREDSUPREMEBURRITOCOMA! That is what Hubs said… After Hubs finished his Main Entrée, he also ordered the Carne Asada Taco($ 2.00), to finalize his rating about this establishment. He even said he LIKE his Carne Asada Taco ORDERALOT! Anyhoos, we don’t mind returning to this establishment even if we have to drive across the town… that is what Hubs said… After I finished my dinner, I found out, that they have a Mini SALSA Bar in which was just next to where I was seating. I overlooked those things. DUH! Oh well… The washroom for the Ladies was kept clean too. Above anything else, THANKYOU Los Molcajetes Mexican Restaurant & Bar for the wonderful food, that Hubs like it so much. INDEED reminds him of MEXICO… We shall see you soon in the future… Take Note: From the Paper Menu, Hubs brought home, it stated that Los Molcajetes Mexican Restaurant & Bar aka Los Molcajetes Taqueria DELIVER. Just call them to confirm in case they change this statement. Los Molcajetes 100 N Knox Ct #A Denver, CO80219 Tel:(303)-934−0354 @218/2013

This is a fairly typical taco place located in the heart of the Barnum neighborhood at Knox and 1st. We visited at kind of a strange time(around 4 in the afternoon) and, as one might expect, business was slow and the waitresses were watching TV when we walked in, but everyone got to work right away when they saw us. We ordered at the counter and then sat down. Even though we just got a few tacos and an horchata they brought us free chips and salsa(not sure if it was just left over from the lunch hour or if this is a regular thing). That was a big plus because the salsa was very good: spicy but not so spicy that you burn your taste buds off, and very complex and fresh-tasting. I’m pretty sure it had a lot of cilantro in it. The horchata was fine(but, then, I haven’t had much bad horchata). We got three tacos(which are only $.99 — but, then, that’s pretty standard for the area), all carnitas. The meat was flavorful but much too greasy and not hot enough, which was a big disappointment — I hope that had something to do with the fact that we showed up at an off hour. Fortunately they brought out another salsa with the tacos(different from the one with the chips but also very tasty), which helped cut the grease a bit. The atmosphere was quite pleasant for a taco place, with plenty of seating, both tables and booths. The ladies’ room was in decent condition. They had high chairs(didn’t notice if they had booster seats). The waitstaff was friendly and spoke both English and Spanish. I’ll definitely want to give it a second try at regular lunchtime — if the meat is still greasy maybe I’ll see if they want to start selling the salsa by the pint.
