Hidden(literal?) jewel among millions of corporations and businesses. This shop feels like your relative runs the place… Weird, but a good weird I promise!

This place is amazing! !!! I have driven past this place for years. Never stopped once. I am so mad at myself for that. I was wanting some sweet fried pastries and heading to a major chain to get them… all of the sudden out of the corner of my eye i see this magical place at first i was thinking that i was going to drive past it… but the weirdest thing happened. i flipped my signal on and the rest was history! THISPLACEISPHENOMENAL!!! They have way more than just donuts. I got so much stuff and took it home and yes… my diabetes hurt bad! I highly suggest the champagne cake!!!

I really try hard to not eat donuts. But on occasion, I like to buy a dozen or two donuts for special occasions at work or other instances. When I do, I get them from Donut Hut. I first went to Donut Hut because it’s close to my house. It was an act of convenience. I was pleased to realize they have the best donuts I have ever had. Fresh, delicious donuts! And their apple fritters… OHMAN! And a plus side, it’s not a huge corporation like Dunkin’ Donuts or WalMart. It’s a local place we should support. If you’re in the need for donuts, I would recommend trying Donut Hut.

This is my family’s favorite donut shop. Great variety of rolls and donuts that are made fresh daily. It reminds me of the REAL donut shops that I loved going to as a kid. No trendy, over over the top creations or hipster environment, they just make great donuts day after day. My favorites are the Dutch Crumb donut and the Apple Fritter.

Favorite donut shop in Des Moines. Just regular donuts!!! Don’t expect crazy made up artistic donuts. This is the place to come get your regular comfort food. Forget about grocery store/gas station donuts. Donut Hut makes donuts the right way. Al, the owner, is a people person so visiting his shop, seeing him, and getting donuts make it the best experience. I never liked cake donuts before until I tried the blueberry and chocolate chip donut. I’m hooked!!! Just the right flavor and texture, not the dried up scone kind of cake donut. The regular fried donuts are amazing! They have the right amount of crunch and softness. Kid/family friendly. Place is always packed! Especially the weekends between 7−9am. Worth the wait and making new acquaintances in line.

Oh sweet indulgence! There are many well known donut chains scattered around Des Moines, but in Urbandale just East of Merle Hay Mall lies this hidden gem of a donut shop. The sweet smell of glaze and baked goodies draws sweets-lovers right up to the counter where a large case of delicious varieties of donuts awaits. You can’t go wrong with any one or more ;) that you choose. My personal favorite are the white cake donuts with sprinkles! A word to the wise, I pride myself on my ability to put down quite a few donuts, but these donuts are dense and filling so you may need a nap after consumption! Use the check-in offer to get a free coffee with your order!

The best donuts in the Des Moines area. Love this place. The cake donuts are the best… my favorites are the blueberry and chocolate chip! Go early… it’s a small place and sometimes they run out of flavors. Staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

I love variety when it comes to doughnuts, and I was pretty upset that when I went to get a bear claw– it wasnt available. If your in a hurry tho its kinda hard to not want to stop and see the large assortment!!! Does hit the sweet tooth and satisfies the tum tum!

If you want a solid from scratch donut this is your place. There is nothing crazy. They are not going to have a «captain crunch bacon Nutella kitchen» sink donut here. They are just going to have DONUTS! Although I highly recommend the fancy donuts in the case. The tiger tail, apple fritters, and rosebuds are super good! Did I mention this is a local establishment.

Best Donuts in Des moines! Real old school donuts or all sorts. The«Old Fashioned» donuts are the best! Actually all the stuff there is top notch. They even have legacy Barbara’s Bake Shop items. Such as Barbara’s Champagne Cake! Price breaks on 6 and a dozen donuts! The owner is a very friendly and nice. He likes to joke around a bit. So do not be surprised if he does! If you love donuts like this cop. You need to visit the Donut Hut! JUDGEMENT: Outstanding! You should visit Donut Hut and the Judge yourself!

Great soft fresh flavored cake donuts. Got a cherry one and was expecting maybe just cherry frosting, but was infused well throughout.

Close to the new house, Yay! We ran to grab a dozen doughnuts in advance of guests this morning. There will be a few left by the time they get here, I’m sure. Ok, pretty sure. Well, maybe. =) The Place: Small and just like the doughnut shop my mom used to take us to after church. The Service: EXCELLENT. How hard is it to serve up coffee and doughnuts, you might ask. Well, our norm of using debit and credit cards can be a technological challenge for a small business. So when the guy in front of us went to pay for his coffee and two doughnuts with his card and the machine errored and this customer had no cash, the guy kindly gave him his breakfast for free. Free. Smiling and shrugging, no blame or frustration. He just made sure his customer was taken care of. Wow. I am now a forever fan of these owners. The Food: Yum. No greasy taste or after-taste, all light, fluffy doughnut heaven. Red velvet. The Price: Cheap

Not five star at all, basic donuts nothing makes it stand out from any other donut that you can get at the grocery store. I was really excited to try this place after the reviews, tried strawberry, chocolate, and maple frosting, they all were just okay. Really was hoping for more here.

Friendly man, tasty ‘nuts. Be prepared for some good-natured back-and-forth with the owner, he likes to joke around. It’s fun, but the people in front of me in line expected to just shuffle up meekly and order, and I could tell they were caught off guard by his demeanor. He was obviously thankful for each customer’s business and is a credit to the community! These donuts have a subtly distinct personality, they are not heavy but there is some density to them. The cinnamon crunch and coconut crunch toppings are excellent. and the more traditional donuts are right on the money as well. The maple topping is great, don’t hesitate to order multiples. Chocolate cake donuts/chocolate frosted aren’t overwhelmingly chocolately(which is either positive, negative, or neutral depending on your predilection). The apple fritters may be the standout item. an even apple and cinnamon taste throughout. And the edges are crispy, but the center delivers with a soft spongy-ness often missing from other apple fritters. They’re big, but you can eat an entire fritter without regretting it, it isn’t too oily, or too dense, or too frosted. I just got back from a visit to Donut Hut around noon, and even though they open at 5am, everything I ordered was still moist/fresh.

Great donuts, great value and the BEST service. One of the key aspects to the Donut Hut is the owner. He takes a friendly approach with everyone and expect that he’ll use his sense of humor and smile from the moment you interact with him. One of the nicest people you’d ever hope to encounter. If your craving some donuts, you’ll be glad you stopped by!

I had a doughnut dream and was craving them when I woke up today.!The boyfriend relented and off we went to find a doughnut place. There’s a lot of doughnut chains in the area but I was curious about trying this place since it got such glowing reviews. Service was wonderful. The doughnuts themselves are moist and almost cakey; doughnut perfection. My favorites were the two types of red velvet and pumpkin spice. The red velvet with the white glaze is slightly sweeter. My boyfriend liked the doughnuts as well and his sweet tooth isn’t nearly as large as mine. The flavors are there yet subtle. There are high chairs available, several tables to enjoy your tasty treats, and cards are accepted.

I have only taken time to ever write 1 other review. I must admit, I have been taking my boys here every month or so for a year. Dunkin moved into town and we have gone there a few time. After coming back to donut hut today, we will come back here from now on. It is family owned and the owner cares about his customers. Each and every one. He even took time to come and talk to the boys. I even got a warm up on my coffee. Support this place!

Really great little spot for handmade donuts. They also have a ton of ice cream flavors. One of our weekly summer traditions is to eat dinner at Wasabi Chi and walk over to Donut Hut for dessert. Great owner — one of the friendliest guys you’ll meet. The donuts are always fresh. I would recommend the Snowball Bismarks. No other place does it better. The cake donuts are also amazing. They just started selling gyros. This place is also a hangover treatment for me. I can wake up feeling like hell after a night of drinking, head over to Donut Hut for 2 donuts + a big coffee and I’m cured. It’s magic.

Pretty chill donut shop. ALSOHASBLUEBUNNYICECREAM! I’m guessing the man there was the owner. They had pretty neat flavors. Their chocolate chip donut looked like a chocolate chip bagel! I have to admit, I’ve had better donuts. They kind of lacked on the filling though which was dissapointing. I believe 1 normal donut was a little under $ 1(0.89−0.99) and their specialty donuts were over a dollar($ 1.19?). They also had little donut balls(something like 5 for $ 2). I asked the owner if all their donuts were deep fried(because there is such thing as baked donuts!) and he told me that none of their donuts. They were just dipped in water. I didn’t really appreciate the sarcasm, but I kind of just laughed it of… sad.
