Callahan’s Restaurant and Deli

The food is great. The pasta potions are large. Our waiter Bobby was excellent. He had a sense of humor and a great personality.

Wow! Excellent food! Typically in Destin, people want to eat on the beach. Sure they have a great vibe and view, but their food doesn’t measure up. Callahan’s has got the good food! Our family had rolls, spaghetti, chicken and broccoli Alfredo, chicken Parmesan, and a cheese burger. Everyone really enjoyed their dish. Also we got fresh fruit (strawberries, grapes, cantaloupe, and honey dew melon) with the cheese burger instead of fries. FYI, the fresh fruit was an extra $ 2. The portions are extra large. The kids meals are large enough to be adult meals. Maybe even consider sharing the adult meal. And I don’t want to forget to mention that our waiter, Tebor, was pleasant and funny.

My wife, a couple of friends, and I ate at Callahan’s last Saturday night for the first time. The restaurant was clean, the service very good, and the food was excellent. The portions are large. 2 of us had the Chicken fried Chicken, 1 had Grouper, and I had the Lasagna. 3 of us ended up getting To Go boxes after the meal. Highly recommended and I look forward to our next visit to Callahan’s.

I was shocked to see that this restaurant did not have a much higher rating.
Four of us stopped for a visit and were given the lunch menu. It was actually a late lunch or early dinner. The menu offers a variety of food that would appeal to most everyone.
We started with the fried pickles as an appetizer. We shared them and all of us agreed they were delicious.
Between us we ordered the chicken fried chicken, liver and onions, cheese and potato soup plus a very large chicken salad. The items we served were HUGE. Each plate was more than enough for two! They were huge. The potatoes were real mashed potatoes and not packaged.
Our meal was fantastic. Our server was absolutely excellent. We topped it off with a key lime pie we split. Very good too.
We were pleased with everything … even the low prices.

Have eaten at Callahan’s way before they moved to their new location food is always great had lunch there today some of the best liver and onions I think that I have ever had, nice portions good hot food great service great place to eat in Destin

Excellent food and good service. Nice, family atmosphere. I could eat lunch here everyday. Don’t skip the desserts you’ll regret it later.

Second trip here. We came specifically for the chili cheeseburger. My husband and I split it and I couldn’t finish my portion. I also had the white bean and ham soup. It was very good as well. The service was quick and friendly. The desserts looked yummy but I was stuffed.

I was highly disappointed with my recent experience at Callahans… I’m a local and have grown up in Destin. I’ve been coming to Callahans for almost twenty years. Since they were on holiday isle. I was treated very rudely by the assistant manager named Jill. When I spoke to the owner named Suzanne she was apologetic and offered to remedy the situation. When I came back the same assistant manager named Jill approached me and brought the incident up. I found it highly unprofessional. I was horrified at her behavior. When I told her that I had mentioned the past incident to manager, only to defend myself, she said that Suzanne did not believe me about the incident. Whether Suzanne did or did not believe me doesn’t matter at this point. This post is because her assistant manager is berating customers. I did not approach the assistant manager and can not believe she would verbally attack a customer. I will no longer recommend this restaurant to any friends, family or tourist in fear that they will come under the wrath of this highly unprofessional assistant manager (Jill). It saddens me to join a long list of locals who feel that this Destin classic is no longer the experience it used to be.

Our waiter, he was the best server I’ve ever had. Black and blue medallions were awesome. Key lime pie was great! Wife had the burger and liked it. Kids had lasagna and spaghetti and both were good. Meal size was more than enough.

Our group ate here last week and the food was pretty good. Most had chicken fried steak or chicken and a couple had seafood. The chicken soup was really good. What made our visit though was our waiter, Tibor, he was awesome. He was attentive enough to fill our needs without hovering and was incredibly entertaining. This was probably the best dining experience we had that week.

I was delighted with the multitude of options on the menu. We went for a late lunch. We were thrilled and astonished at the size of the portions.
Before reading the following, know that I hate salads and only ordered it because I had a belly ache. :)
I had the strawberry chicken salad and substituted the chicken for blackened Mahi Mahi. The waiter was very patient and incredibly helpful when I was working through the best options.
It was HUGE and delicious. The vinaigrette was delicious! I actually sent my husband back before we left Florida to get more for me to take home. Nom nom nom.
I have had a salad every day and dread the day my salad dressing runs out.
Anyhow, my friend and husband were pleased with their sandwiches but they were so sad after seeing my glorious salad. ;)
Wait staff great. Super clean. Delicious food. Priced right for the servings. Loved it!

They serve huge portions. I’m giving only 3 stars because I feel it very dishonest to server a cheap white fish instead of catfish. So many restaurants are doing this lately but still charge the same the price.
The ended up putting the crawfish cream sauce on the grits which was yummy. My group all loved their food.

Fast friendly service. Great prices for the beach. I’ve been eating here for 20 years and have never been disappointed. This is the place where locals go. Best kept secret in Destine. Never wrote a review but the place deserves one. Specials are always great and reasonable and fresh. Deserts a must have!

Bland is the best description. Prices are not great even for the early birds. I can’t imagine paying full price. Service was average at best. We won’t be back.

I really like this restaurant. They’re friendly, it’s local, they offer a variety of food, and everything is made from scratch. I really like the stuffed pepper soup, and the Cajun burger. They don’t have these every night, but they post their specials on Facebook. They have a nice Sunday brunch as well, which runs until about 3 pm and then they close early on Sunday.
They have a large variety of cakes and pies, and also sell all kinds of fresh meat and cold cuts.

Great Food — Great Service! We eat here often and never had a bad experience.

We went there at the recommendation of a local for their desserts. When we got there, they were out of several desserts and the service was incredibly slow. I hear the food is good but we left before we could tell because the service was so slow.

Food is always plentiful and it’s where the locals go for fresh, no fuss and good eating. Deli serves the best of meats which can also be taken home.

My husband had the chicken fried chicken and it was the better of the two dishes we ordered but it severely lacked flavor. My dish the chicken fried steak again tasted like nothing distinguishable. Mashed potatoes and salad, boring!!! The only thing that did surprise me was the squash medley, which actually was tasty and not over cooked.
We did notice that the waitress who waited on the table next to us asked if her table wanted soup or salad, which our waiter neglected to ask. In fact after watching him serve 4 other tables, we deduced that he didn’t like carrying out soup as he didn’t give anyone else a choice either and carried out salad after salad. He also never left us straws for our ice teas, which we had to ask another waitress for. So service by our male waiter: poor.
All in all, mediocre food, find somewhere else to go.

I really enjoyed this place! I got a Florida Screamer drink and it was awesome. I felt a lot of locals eat here because it was mostly people in non-​beachwear and senior citizens.
But don’t be fooled. The food is awesome and they give you great portions! They have an amazing selection of sandwiches that are very delicious! I totally recommend this place if you can find it.
