On the corner of Cadillac Square and Woodward lies Roasted Plant. A wonderful setting with industrial style architecture. In the establishment lies a unique roaster that hosts various types of coffee beans from Brazil and Guatemala. Once the coffee beans are roasted they are then ground and transferred through the the suction tubes to brew. I have never really seen anything like it, very unique. They only have three locations; two in NYC and one in Detroit. Great experience!

Very cool, feel like I’m in New York or Chicago. Wish it was larger, but everything else is perfect.

This place was our saving grace on what felt like the coldest day ever(we’re from California so you can imagine how cold 10°-20° is for us). We were walking around Downtown Detroit before meeting a friend for dinner and the Redwings/Flyers game on Sunday and needed a caffeine boost. I had previously bookmarked The Roasting Plant on Unilocal so we decided to make the 10 minute walk here — best decision ever. This place was so cool — they have a really interesting system(the Javabot) for shooting beans around via clear tubes so you can see and hear them traveling from one place to the next and into the bean grinder. They have a large variety of beans and blends and their cream and sugar bar was wonderful — milk/cream/half&half are dispensed from a tap! I had the Motor City Blend and it was delicious and well-balanced. We were so impressed with the quality and taste of our coffee, we bought a bag of beans to take home with us. And in true tourist fashion, we took our warm coffees with us across the street to Campus Martius and did some outdoor ice skating.

These guys know coffee! From the unique pneumatic system to deliver the coffee beans a la carte, to the quick service. I WILL be taking my wife here the next time downtown. Can’t wait to go back. It doesn’t get more fresh than when they ground the beans for your personal coffee on the spot after you order. Amazing concept, well executed.

Amazing cup of coffee and the best chai latte bar none. This is a must try if you are a Starbucks fan… in my opinion it tops it hands down and the staff are very helpful!

This coffee shop has a very cool system. Definitely the first I’ve seen such a thing. You choose your favorite coffee bean and go to the counter, then the beans from a big cylinder travels to the brewing machine through pipes, and Wa-lah! You get your fresh cup of coffee. Drinks: caramel latte was oh so good. Very rich but not too heave and not too sweet. I ordered small size was it seemed a bit too small. They have 10 or more types of coffee beans that you can choose from. Service: Friendly staff that gets your coffee right. Nothing more to ask. Atmosphere: Simple, not too noisy and has a good number of tables and seats. A lot of office people around the area coming in and out.

This is a must see for coffee lovers in the Detroit area! It was a really neat experience to watch your bean of choice fly through visible tubes into their predetermined grinders. The coffee is fresh, the options are vast, and I have already enlisted Detroit-local to send me a pound of Good Cheer. FYI: a small is REALLY small if you are used to Starbucks sizes.

Good hot chocolate, higher pricing. Haven’t had the coffee so I don’t know the brew, but they had non-dairy and non-soy milk options, so that’s always a good sign!

I had never heard of or tried this place prior to working down here, but since it was in my building and I was about to fall over from exhaustion if I didn’t get a pick-me-up, I walked in. I ordered an iced chai tea latte and was shocked: I didn’t think anything could top my Starbucks. It was very strong and kept me awake all day that’s for sure. It’s about the same price, maybe a little more, than Starbucks but it’s so worth it. They grind up all their own coffee beans and such so it’s a lot better for you and more natural. If you’re ever downtown, check this hidden gem out in the first national building!

Wow. I have not had good coffee like that in a long time. I tried the supercharged with the Brazilian beans and I can’t believe I’m still awake. I thought it would be bitter which I personally don’t like, but it was so smooth and creamy and mild yet still packs a mean caffeine content. Barista was very nice and explained everything clearly. the layout was different from a «typical» hipster coffee shop but in my opinion all the better. I was waiting for my sister so I had some time to chill there and I loved it. Pastries looked good too, will try them next time.

Why 5 stars? Because everything was perfect. — — — Super nice people. Sleek, modern interior. Nice scenery outside onlooking the best part of Downtown Detroit. Great coffee. And even the coolest glassware I’ve ever seen at a coffee shop. Everything down to the last detail was as good as I could have hoped for, for my last taste of Detroit before I hit the road. Roasting Plant, you were so wonderful, you left my lasting impression of the entire city to be a good one.

This place has a really neat concept. They have this giant roaster thing with all of their beans in the middle of the coffee shop. When you order it shoots the coffee beans through a labyrinth of plastic tubes from the middle into their coffee maker machine thingy behind the counter and brews it whatever style you requested whether that is espresso or coffee. They have a variety of coffee from Jamaica Blue Mountain to Ethiopian Harrar Masala. I did have one issue with their brewing methods though. Their machine technically does not make«coffee» by traditional methods of drip, flow, or immersion. Their«coffee» is actually a long pull espresso which is more similar to an Americano which is espresso + water. Also, I am not a fan of automatic machines, as I truly believe that making espresso is an art and should be done with a manual or at the very least semi-automatic espresso machine in order to truly bring out the flavors of the bean. This can be evidenced by the fact that the coffee I got was Jamaica Blue Mountain(over 70 $ per pound), but it really tasted just like any other dark roast coffee that I could have made. When things become automated, they become consistent, but boring. Other than that, service is friendly and it is a great place to study and get some decent coffee, but if you consider yourself a coffee«snob» or «connoisseur» then I might turn around and try another place because you may find yourself disappointed as I was.

Reasonably priced, excellent coffee served by eloquent staff. Seriously.why did I ever leave my money at Germack or Starbucks? these folks win by a very long shot. I paid something like $ 2,50 for my medium Guatemala and it was the *real deal coffee*.soon they will need a license to sell stuff this strong and flavorful: P Pleasantly designed, industrial interior, outdoor seating, bike parking and great location right by campus matrius. Baristas finally know what they’re doing, all staff encountered was seriously knowledgeable. I will drive there even if its not on my way

This is my favorite coffee spot in Detroit. The staff are always ready to field my questions and give really good recommendations. Everything is so crazy fresh it’s the kind of coffee that actually tastes delicious black. They also have these Two Degrees bars that are really good and my bf liked the almond croissant. If you’re tryna study this is a good spot, too. The place itself is small but it’s inside a building with a nice lobby. I’ve only been here on off times but I hear it gets really busy.

This place is a coffee lover’s Mecca! Right in downtown Detroit in Campus Martius. They roast every bean fresh in shop. You order the coffee you want to drink and the bean is vacuumed pumped through clear tubes fresh from the roaster to the brewer. Then ground according to the specific type of roast and brewed perfectly! You can buy their freshly roasted beans to take home with you too! It is an authentic coffee experience. If you don’t like it,(you must lack taste buds) there is always Starburnt coffee across the way.

Great spot for your caffeine fix. Mesmerizing tubes full of the beans you’re about to drink. There are tons of bean options for the coffee connoisseurs out there. It’s a little awkward waiting for drinks when there’s a big enough crowd because the space is a little tight, but the buzz is worth it!

As far as coffee goes, excellent. I will most certainly be back when we’re downtown. It’s not all show — although the tube things are really cool. The coffee was great. I’m not a huge coffee snob, dissecting every element of the roasting and teasing process. I just like my coffee strong but not bitter, and this definitely qualifies. Delicious. Very helpful staff, which is good since that menu is a tad overwhelming. Also, great location. Perfect for when you’re hanging out at Campus Martius, working in a building nearby, or just in the general vicinity. Even nicer when there’s food trucks around!

This is my favorite coffee shop in Detroit! I make it a routine to come every morning at 7 and sit down for an hour and enjoy my supercharged coffee before work. PROS: + Great location in central Downtown(at Campus Martius) + Great concept. It’s really cool to see the coffee beans shoot over to the blender when you order your cup. + Great hours. It’s open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. Perfect. + Extensive coffee menu. Lots of beans to choose from, and I especially like the *Supercharged* option(30% more coffee beans). + Fast WiFi, great clean seating. Some have power outlets. + Good prices. Slightly more expensive than a standard coffee shop but it’s worth it. * Bonus tip: You get 5% off every purchase if you pay with a Gift Card(there is no minimum on how much money you need to load in order to get this). Overall a fantastic coffee shop for Downtown Detroit, and it’s in my daily morning routine to go.

My favorite coffee joint downtown! Love the variety, the freshly roasted and ground beans make for a perfect cup, and you never have to settle for old half and half. As an added bonus, the baristas are friendly instead of snooty as can sometimes happen in independent shops.
