Now if you are wondering how many Mexican food joints I like, this has to be number one. Prices are ridiculous, I know. I always jibe the owner if my meal will ever be free. Buy 500 get 1 free. She says no with a smile. This is my number one, for real. Regardless of price or failure to supply incentive to come again. The meat is straight forward top notch. Must be prime rib. I always ask for poquito frijoles mucho carne. Again I get a smile and a kind of no. I always get a carne asada burrito, quesadilla with guacamole and a large horchata. Costs like 20 bucks just for me! Double every other Mexican food cost. You get what you pay for. Seriously. Look no further than Serranos Super Salsa for a pay day treat and live off rice for the rest of the month. Hope I get a free meal for this review…

Came to Serranos because of a couple friends who kept telling me how great it was, and after going there, i can see what they were talking about. Has everything you want from a taco shop. Authentic feel/look, great menu, a self-serve salsa bar and most importantly(for me!) LIMES! Honestly, cant eat mexican food without limes haha. I ordered what i always order when trying a new mexican shop, a Carne Asada/California burrito and was pretty impressed with the size of the burrito, and was really surprised by the high quality of meat, so used to cheap and fatty meat, but this was real, high quality steak and cut thick too. Definitely one of the better California burritos ive had and will be going back. Only reason its 4 star instead of 5 is because of the the hot sauce, which was just ok, not as tasty and spicy as im used to. Also, it was a little pricey at almost $ 9 for the burrito, which almost made me leave before ordering, but after getting my burrito, i could understand why it was a little more than other places.

I just went in for lunch and ordered a carne asada burrito. After looking at the 4 stars overall on Unilocal and the crazy expensive prices I thought I was in for a huge, delicious burrito. I was very disappointed when my $ 9(after tax) carne asada burrito came out. Not only was it small to average in size, but it had twice as many beans as carne on it. The carne itself was luke warm. Definitely not made to order like the good taco shops. The beans(most of the burrito) were watery making the tortilla soggy even though I ate it right after it was made. Don’t waste your money on this overpriced over rated taco shop. I know I will never be back.

When there are no other customers in a taco shop, you know the food isn’t going to be up to par. Having said that, this was my first visit to Serrano’s Super Salsa. I was looking to try something new. But I guess new isn’t always better. The first thing I noticed about this place was that their prices were outrageous. Over $ 8 for a carne asada burrito? $ 4.55 for a carne asada taco? That is way too expensive when there are much better Mexican restaurants with quality food and reasonable prices. I decided to go with their«special», which was a chicken enchilada plate with rice/beans and a drink. As I was waiting, I noticed that they brought out what I presumed was refrigerated chicken and heated it up in the microwave, separately from the tortillas. Using a microwave to cook or reheat food is a big no-no in the restaurant business, especially right in front of the customer! As I had expected, the chicken was dry and the sauce was salty. I didn’t even finish my plate. I was disappointed with my experience and I don’t believe I will be going back.

Love their shrimp tacos, bean and cheese burritos and carne asada tacos special! Friendly stuff and long history of great taste!

Good food but I give them 1 star for ridiculous high prices. Almost $ 8 for a burrito is nuts for a taco shop. It was going to be almost $ 50 for my family of 4 with drinks. So not worth the price in a city surrounded by great reasonable Mexican food.

freebie cheese quesadilla with check-in! don’t come in a hurry because it’s these adorable sweet and older ladies running the kitchen. like their name states, the salsa was seriously super! i loaded up on the green medium sauce with sliced hot carrots. the décor and seating are the weathered and colorful. with the open air kitchen, you can see them make the food right in front of you. the carne asada burrito is the most popular one sold here but if you like shrimp, they sure pack it in and don’t scrimp on the shrimp. the flavors are like a firecracker — instant toe curl!

I’ve been here twice now and each time it was great. Been, cheese and rice burrito each time. No alcohol served there, but go next door to the liqueur store and also get a beer. Two thumbs up.

This place is my absolute favorite place to get Mexican. I basically weep into their burritos when I am eating, I am THAT happy with how it tastes. I am LOVE their salsa bar, especially the hot carrots… I eat about three cups full every time I come in. I couldn’t be a bigger fan of this place. Every time I have friends from out of town visit and they want some good mexican grub, I take them here. never disappointed.

Totally not impressed. There were so many rave reviews on Unilocal that I thought the food was going to be amazing. Got the shrimp burrito and ate about ¼ of it. The shrimp were still cold. My husband and I were there from 6 – 6:30pm on a Saturday night and we were the ONLY customers in that whole time period. The only reason they are getting 2 stars is because the corn quesadilla was decent.

Great food decent specials. 2 kids were working the front cashier, rookies. food is consistent and the meat is tender! p. s. ask for the FREE chips, they are hidden under the stove. depending on who is working they might not honor the 1 tacos with drink combo, usually the young people dont do it.

Yeah, I definitely think not. I went there this past weekend based on the glowing Unilocal reviews. Being so close to home and me not being aware of it, I thought why not? Well, now I know why I’ve not been aware of it — the food’s terrible. I took the recommendation to order the shrimp burrito w/o rice. Worse $ 9.43 I’ve spent in my entire life. I don’t taste the sweetness of the shrimps even though I can see them. Perhaps it’s because they put way too much salt in in and all I can taste is salt. Even when I doused it with their special red sauce all I can taste salt & spiciness. And their red sauce pales in comparison to the red sauce at The Hat(a.k.a. Sombreros). Perhaps I’m too quick to judge on just one bad experience, but I really have to question if I would dare forking over $ 8+ to give them another chance on their carne asada burrito because the shrimp burrito was a huge, huge letdown.

The ONLY thing Super about this place is HOW bad the food is! It took the cashier 3 times to get the order right! I am not sure HOW this place has so many good reviews, I suppose it is good Mexican food to eat while driving your Prius and listening to Celine Dion’s Xmas album. By far the WORST burrito I’ve had in San Diego! NE V E R trust a Mexican restaurant that won’t put cilantro on your order when you request it!

I came by here for dinner Saturday evening about an hour before closing. I ordered the carnitas burrito with everything on it. They gave me a small container with tortilla chips, so I hit up the salsa bar too. The burrito was pretty large and it tasted great.( ) It was filled with tender lean flavorful pork, pinto beans, guacamole, cheese, and a bit of chile verde sauce all wrapped around a moist flour tortilla.( ) Just gotta have it peeps. I enjoyed their green medium salsa on my burrito. The red, which was suppose to be hotter, was only just a tad hotter. The picadillo was good too.( ) The service was great and the girl at the register was really cool. In fact she was quite bliss. That smile is definitely worth another trip~

I’ve been coming here infrequently since they first opened. Kind of an «upscale» taco shop & a little pricey for what most people expect for a «taco shop», but I’ve always liked the food here. Salsas & hot sauce are good, & I like the beans they put in their carme asada tacos. To me the prices aren’t that bad & most of what I have had here is a little different than your average taco shop, but always good.

Arrrrrrriba! This place is definitely a joint I would have never ventured into had it not been for Unilocal-ers — thanks folks! It’s tucked away in a little corner of a strip mall under the 8-fwy. It smells authentic when you walk in — the kitchen is open, right behind the counter, so you see them making your meal. All they need is a little Abuela sitting in the corner making tortillas. Very festive, rustic, colorful wooden chairs and stools; banners & paintings. Our order was to-go, but would have gladly stayed to dine-in. The prices: I thought Cazadores(our fave — worth it) was pricey, but almost $ 8 for a shrimp burrito almost had me put 2 «$» signs for the price range in the review. Definitely wouldn’t stop us from going back, though! The grub: BF had Carne Asada Burrito + Quesadilla w/guacamole, and I had the Shrimp Burrito, no rice. Everything was fantastic… the carne had a lovely seasoning and the shrimp burrito was definitely different than any other I’ve had before. The salsas: I love me some salsa… and every single salsa in their bar was FAN-Friggin-Tastic! Some places really make some funky red sauce, but theirs was hot and tasty. Even their mild-salsa verde had a kick to it. So good! There’s a reason their name is Serrano’s SUPER Salsa :)

If ever you’re on the 8 heading east to Viejas(or Barona) in the afternoon to go gamble with your mom, exit Johnson and make a left on Arnele. There you will treat yourself to what has got to be the best shrimp burrito I have ever tasted. People on here have been mentioning the shrimp burrito so I decided to swoop by after work. Funny thing is i’ve been working by this place for pretty much a year and a half, and I’m so amazed at how much i’ve been missing out on. I just ordered the burrito to go and watch all the magic happen behind the front counter. I could see the woman at the grill literally build my burrito from making the flour tortilla, to chopping up the camarones(or shrimp for the unlingual). She foiled it up and stuck it in a white bag like it was booze. I have to say that after eating the burrito that i’m drunk off its awesomeness. Good burrito! Will come again! Try their fish tacos! They drop the A-Bomb on Rubios! Although the menu’s not Sombrero’s huge, or Alejandro’s massive, there’s some quality stuff up in here. Kinda pricey too, but like Mama Testa’s, its worth it. It’s on the 10News A-List, but I’m suprised that there’s no «Yelp Loves Us» sticker on the front window yet.
