I ordered the mango salad with shrimp Pumpkin curry with shrimp Thai fried rice with chicken Thai ice tea All to go Omg the cutest lil restraunt. Felt like I was in Thailand. Small intimate restraunt. Looks like it used to be a house. I’ll be back! Everything was full of flavor! Mangos were sweet and juicy perfect spice. The pumpkin curry had a ton of pumpkin they weren’t cheap on the shrimp. The fried rice had to my surprise raisins and pineapple and cashews that complimented each other well for flavor.

I was greeted right away. I ordered thai ice tea and she gave it to me within a minute. It was too sweet so i asked for more tea. I added the tea she gave me. It was better, but still to sweet. Had the tea been less sweet i wouldve given them 5 stars. I ordered the salmon curry dish. It was very flavourful and juicy. It was spicy and i really liked it. The waitress attended to be quickly and the food was ready quickly as well. The place is not noisey and it was not busy when i was there. I will def come back, but no thai ice tea for me. Lol

I love everything here! Just recently tried the green bean beef with white rice. Game changer.

The portion was definitely decent but the taste just isn’t all there. I ordered the tofu fresh roll and param tofu. Idk how I feel about their food; fresh roll had zero flavor and the peanut sauce for the rolls had an odd sour tangy flavor that didn’t compliment the rolls and the param tofu peanut sauce was watery, didn’t have flavor either oh … Their food quality doesn’t match their price. You’re probably better off hitting up a taco truck than here

Just got take out from here and I was pleased with the portions they gave in the container. I ordered their Crab Fried Rice and their Papaya Salad in mild cuz I can’t handle spicy(I know I’m a bit of a wuss). You have a choice from Thai or Lao style which I had to ask what the difference was and the woman who took my phone order told me it was the fish sauce so I decided to go with Thai style. I’ll try their Lao style next time I decide to come back. Everything was good and they definitely put a lot of crab meat but I felt that I’ve had better. I don’t know what it is but I find it to be okay. The place itself is pretty small with a few tables but it was clean. I do think their restroom location is a bit weird since you have to walk outside to the side of the place which you need a key to unlock both the screen and the regular door. Once you’re in, it’s very cramped and there’s another door that I think leads into the kitchen which I felt that I should lock because someone else could just walk in on you from that way while you’re using it. All in all, I think it’s decent for the two items which I paid $ 22+ for.

Always a good idea to eat here! Good food that doesn’t leave you with that heavy, food coma feeling. I love the California Thai fried rice with chicken or beef or tofu(I know, I love everything). The mango salad is also so tasty! Get it!!! Ambiance is nice, quiet, and relaxing. It never gets too loud while you enjoy every bite of your food. I have gotten takeout here plenty of times, both for myself and parties. For party platters I usually get the California Thai fried rice and mango salad(what I mentioned earlier, since they’re my faves and I have to share) and they’ve always been a hit at parties.

First my boyfriend and I ordered their shrimp salad. It’s pretty salty but not too much. It’s flavorful with a nice crunch from the cashews. The prawns were juicy and didn’t taste fishy. Coming in I already knew that I wanted the volcano salmon. When it came out it did not look at all like I as expecting it to haha. I, for some reason thought it was going to be salmon inside a spicy sauce with carrots, raisins and whatever else it said on the menu all mixed together. Nope! There as a nice piece of flaky salmon on top a soft bed of rice that came with this garlic vinegar(plus another ingredient…) sauce you pour on top. I am such a sucker for vinegar and garlic so this sauce was heaven to me. There was nothing volcano about the dish(no lava. nor was it spicy, not that I know if volcanoes are spicy) but it was still SOGOOD. The salad that came on the side was BOMBASFUCK. I did not know it came with a salad, I thought everything as mixed together but this as a pleasant surprise. There is seriously just so much going on in the salad; Crispiness from the pieces of apple, a little chewiness from the raisins(I’m not normally a fan of raisins), creaminess from the avacado, crunchiness from the nuts… I could seriously just eat a plate of this as my meal and be completely satisfied. My boyfriend got the pad thai. It was a little too sweet for me but he enjoyed it. I need to come back to try some more things but so far I highly recommend the volcano salmon plate. Pretty light and guilt free without compromising flavor. UPDATE: Got the jungle curry since it’s not offered at a lot of Thai restaurants and would be a first for me. The flavor was good, just soooooo watery! pass for me. They know how to cook salmon. Their salmon salad is pretty good. They use sour mangos(still fresh, tender and juicy) so the flavor is more on that side of the scale. I’m personally more of a thai coffee(versus tea) fan and they make theirs well. They get pretty busy during lunch and give you a free simple salad that you’d normally get at a sushi restaurant.

Had dinner here twice and both times it was consistently good. The Thai iced tea was a large glass and it had the right amount of sweetness. I enjoyed the catfish basil, pad see ew chicken and beef, jungle curry(mild), fried trout with mango salad, and the fresh rolls. The peanut sauce for the fresh rolls is a mixture of peanut sauce and something else because the consistency of the sauce is different from other peanut sauces that I’ve had. The prices are so much more reasonable than a lot of other Thai places. All the dishes that I’ve had here have been so good and I hope that this continues. Service has been great and I’ve had no issues. Great place to grab authentic Thai food. Highly recommend.

I have to give them five stars because the flavor of the food they serve is incredible. We ordered the salmon curry plate, the thai fried rice, thai iced tea, and also a chicken coconut soup, and a prawn/noodle dish. They took the menu before I could note down the exact names of the dishes but I would recommend this place to anyone who is craving Thai food or wants to try a fresh tasting, inexpensive restaurant.

Can always count on California Thai to be consistent — always quite tasty(love the green curry and my wife really enjoys the Kari Puff). We typically choose takeout, and they’ve never disappointed with an inaccurate order or a bad dish.

I came here last week with a large group of my church friends. I was really excited to try out another Thai place in my neighborhood. I’ve actually passed this place several times before and have been interested to try it out. California Thai is a small home-y feeling restaurant. It wasn’t really that packed on a Friday night(there was only one or two other tables other than us) so I was a little worried about the quality of the food. My fiancé and I decided to share some dishes together. I got the Pad Eggplant and he got the Masaman Curry. I also got a Thai Iced Tea. Thai Iced Tea: I felt that the Thai Tea was way too sweet. I think there was just too much milk to tea ratio which drowned out the tea taste. It’s reasonably priced at $ 2.50 but there is room for improvement here. Pad Eggplant: I was pleasantly surprised by the Pad Eggplant. I got it with beef. The portion size of this dish was really great for the price and there was a lot of eggplant and beef and not a lot of the onions and peppers and stuff. I’m not a big fan of bell peppers and onions so having a huge portion of the key ingredients was a win for me. The taste was on point. This dish was definitely a hit. Masaman Curry: I liked the consistency of this curry. It wasn’t too think and it wasn’t too watery which is really good. There was also a lot of ingredients other than the curry which I think is worth the price. I didn’t really get to taste too much of it since my fiancé was the one who ordered it but he seemed to enjoy this a lot. Overall, I think the food and portion sizes here are great. However, the service was a little lacking in that half our tables food came really early and half of it came late. So by the time I was starting to eat my food, a lot of my friends were done eating already. I think that could be improved upon in the future. But I’ll probably come back a few more times to try out the other items on the menu.

So I have been stopping by to get dinner on my way home several times now. So far so good. I have always ordered the same thing — California fried rice. Basically it’s fried rice(peas, carrots, egg) with your choice of meat with cashews, pineapple chunks, and raisins. Tonight I was a little weirded out to find lima beans, green beans and corn mixed in with my fried rice(like some frozen food medley type veggie mix –I can make that at home if it was at all appealing or appropriate for Thai food). I realize that frozen peas & carrots are probably in it, not fresh hand cut, but that’s the norm. Totally bizarre, I don’t know if I can go back again. They should be careful with putting fillers in that are not on the ingredients list. This disappointment coupled with the price $ 12 turns me off. Would rather hit Blue Bay Thai in San Pablo.

Great comfy Thai in downtown El Sobrante. Food excellent. Not the run-of-the-mill Thai restaurant where all the dishes taste like the same mish-mash mix of sauteed goop. The dishes here are fresh, cooked just right, distinctive and very flavorful. Staff is very warm and friendly. Try the Pad Eggplant, #r52 which I had recently. Delightful symphony of flavors and textures. Wonton soup is not your grandfather’s wonton soup. Again, distinctive and very yummy. The restaurant is in a small building standing by itself on San Pablo Dam Rd. a little west of El Rancho on the opposite side of the street. The dining room is softly lit and comfy with three booths along the wall furthest from the entry door with a few free-standing tables in the rest of the dining area. When we were there last night a big monitor on the wall opposite the booths was displaying a Thai news program. I found that somehow comforting as I glanced up every now and then to see for instance Thai speakers talking about the 49ers. No English subtitles which would have ruined the effect.

If I get violently ill after eating at a restaurant, I will NEVER go there again, and that’s what happened to both me and my friend after eating at California Thai Restaurant for lunch. The outside isn’t especially clean, and I didn’t think the inside was that clean, either. Staff was less than pleasant. There are just too many other places to eat in El Sobrante to risk going here again. You guys need to do better!

The thai tea here is refreshingly good. I nodded my head in silent approval at first sip. They have a good-sized menu. I was pleased to see so many curry options. The red curry is flavorful, but the portion was noticeably smaller than most places. Their dinner portion for the curry is maybe the same size(or smaller) than most lunch portions elsewhere. But their rice portion is big… Curry was decent and better than the other two nearby Thai restaurants. Service was also good. I’ll probably go back to try the other curry options.

It was decent. Portions are small but that’s probably a good thing. I had the BBQ chicken and my hubby had the yellow curry. Both were tasty. We ordered brown rice but got white. No biggy. The Thai ice tea was the best part. Milky, sweet, and cold. Good milk to tea ratio. Will be back

The only reason I decided to give this place a shot was because my friend recommended the food was good and his judgment is on point lol Anywho, who would ever thought to put a Thai restaurant in the city of El Sobrante? Gives the city more variety. This small restaurants capacity fits around a seating of 26 people. The atmosphere feels like your right at home in front of your television. Looking at their lunch menu, the prices were reasonable for Thai food. I ordered their Fried shrimp rolls, Chicken curry and Pad see ew. RESULTS: *I was actually WOW’d out about my food* *Service was GREAT* *All flavors were in tact* * Happy Customer* Out of all the Thai restaurant around my area, this definitely hits the spot. I can’t wait to go back. Ohya don’t let the Restaurant name fool you(CALIFORNIATHAI) to think this is Americanized food, because it is not! Not at all like PF Changs. =P
