I was really excited to eat here only to be sadly disappointed. I got two shrimp tacos and one fried catfish taco but the shrimp tacos were dry and had only cabbage and tomatoes on them. They lacked sauce or flavor. The catfish taco was a piece of beer batter with a sliver of fish inside. The restaurant smelled great other than that.

Mediocre quality seafood. Ordered grilled halibut which appeared and tasted like something you pick up in frozen section at grocery. Fish was undercooked and pink and when asked to reheat dish it still was pink. My wife got sick with bad GI upset after eating.

Wow, fish was so good here. Hope everything is ok for the owners. I read the announcement. Always tough to have family issues in another area. I want to wish them luck and to stay strong.

Just got this sad announcement that they have closed. Sad for them and sad for the employees. My family’s best thoughts and wishes for them all. Hello Friends, It is with a terribly heavy heart that we have had to close our doors. Off The Hook is a small restaurant created and run by Jeff and myself, and closing is very sad for us. It has been like a family, but our real family now needs our help. We have had some recent and rather urgent family situations that require our relocating to be near the ones we love. We thank you all for your support over the last 3 years. It has been a wonderful experience for us and we hope for you too. We have loved seeing all your smiling faces, and we’ll miss you! Please continue to eat healthy and be kind to each other. Sincerely, Jeff, Tricia, & Ella

If you’re a Pescatarian Semi-Vegetarian like me, you’ll love this place! Pure Seafood. Previously I have ordered the Mahi-Mahi, Catfish w/rice. Highly recommended!!!

I had the white roughy here for $ 9. It came with coleslaw and grilled veggies. The fish was a bit salty. Service was quick. There’s ample parking. There’s interior and outdoor seating.

Pretty good. Bit spendy, but I suppose they justify that because the fish is fresh. I got the good ol’ standby, fish & chips, which like I said, were good, but the fries were a bit greasy. Wait, aren’t fries suppose to be greasy? Well, you can’t please everyone. Did NOT like the self-serve tarter sauce and other condiments. They’ve done studies and that shit is a breeding ground for germs. The little hunnies at the front counter were super nice, though. Didn’t bat an eyelash when I asked if I could have fresh tarter sauce from the back. Which is a difference between one star and three in my book.

Stopped by on a Saturday evening. Cashier service was okay, but nothing special, and the girl who brought us our food was rude. My bf and I shared the Cioppino Soup and Crab Cakes with Fries. My bf thought the soup was pretty tasty. I thought it was good but I really liked the bread that came with it. It was kind of like a crispy, grilled pita of some sort. It was different, and yummy. The crab cakes were good. The sauce that came with it was an interesting flavor. However, the fries were the best part. Golden, crispy, and delicious. I mean wow, really addicting. For the price, I don’t think the food was really worth it. It wasn’t outstanding and neither was the service. I think this was a first and last visit for us.

Maybe I ordered the wrong dish, since my review isn’t too good. I’m not sure if I want to go back. I ordered the fried shrimp with fries combo that came with rice. I wasn’t too fond of the batter or the flavor, or the texture. Maybe I need to try out the grilled food next time.

It was just okay– it was my first visit so as I was combing through the menu it may have took a little longer than a regular that may already know what they want. Needless to say I felt rushed. Customer service was ok– the food was not seasoned well at all. In my opinion if you are looking for fresh seafood this is not the place. It reminds me of a fast food spot without the drive through.

Excellent fish. Very fresh and perfectly grilled. This is a great healthy alternative versus the other fast food. My friend ordered the blackened salmon which tasted amazing. I’m happy to have discovered this cool spot.

The catfish tacos here are super good — they’re much lighter and less greasy than your typical fish tacos that usually come drenched in cream sauce. My hubs thought they were a little bland, but I personally liked them. Best of all, they come served with amaaaaazing sweet potato fries! Seriously, what could be better?! Will be back for the crispy, nom-worthy fries alone — yup, they were THAT good!

I am all about this place. My suggestion: Any fish you get, get it blackened, with side of couscous and vegetables. Their tartar sauce is delicious. For the non-fish lover or those allergic to the meats of the sea, they do have chicken alternatives. Any of their sides are fantastic — the coleslaw, fries, etc… If you aren’t in the mood for healthy and you want some fried up fish and chips, they have those types of meals as well. Scallops, shrimp, you name it. This is a great place at a very affordable price. Do come here!

I wanted some food on the slightly healthier side so I came to Off the Hook. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in it. Although the Ahi was well seasoned, I felt like it didn’t blend well into the greens. There was just something missing! I have had their fish tacos as well and they are better than the salad. Tacos were pretty good. Also slightly underseasoned and tasted a little bland. I like powerful flavors and this place just didn’t pack the punch for me. It’s also slightly on the expensive side for a salad.

Five Stars for food quality and overall value. Nestled in a large Encino mall. I ventured in while in the ‘hood to try the well-reviewed Waffle house. But right out front, in a can’t-miss-location, I had second thoughts. Good thing, too. Not only was the Waffle place waaay packed(hey, it’s Sunday brunch time, so, duh), but Off the Hook is inviting from the word ‘Go’. And Go you should. To say their name is, uh, catchy, is true. And accurate. I enjoyed the trout and two sides very much — and it wasn’t expensive. This place reminds me of one of my faves, Fish Grill, back in L.A. However, Off the Hook has a nicer sheen to it. Plus, more available mains and sides. The sweet potato fries looked and smelled perfect. I had a mixed green salad — very fresh and tasty. As well, I tried the couscous salad — delish. And the Trout? Great. I asked for a recommendation, and one of the staff suggested it. Now, you can go grilled or deep fried here — their variety of choices runs, shall we say, deep. Choose a sauce with your fish(though, honestly, not even necessary), I tried the Salsa Verde, which to me, seemed a lot like Pesto. And it too was tasty. As much I like Fish Grill, I think Off the Hook is outstanding. Next time I’m near Encino, I’m heading back to The Hook.

Wandering around the Town Center I wanted some food before a movie. Fish and Chips are elusive and hard to find, even better to find a place that makes them good. That to say, I was very happy with my fare from Off the Hook. I got fried cod with fries. My order was delivered to my table in about 8 minutes, a wait time I was very happy with. Not too long, and not too short(how did they do it so fast, etc.). The cod was sweet, juicy and had great flavor. The batter was crispy and tasty, and held on to the fish without issue. That was a surprise. The fries were very standard and nothing amazing, they needed seasoning. Fortunately they have a sauce bar complete with malt vinegar, lemons, tartar suace and best of all, a fry sauce! Oh man. Get this instead of ketchup for your fries and you can’t go wrong. Bottom line, I would go back again and try some more kinds of fish, and maybe even some of their grilled options. Though, fried is tough to turn down. Still, I would say I really enjoyed my meal and I liked the prices.

Love the tacos and salads here. I always get the salmon taco and cajun mahi taco. My wife usually gets the seared ahi salad. Can’t go wrong with those, everything always tastes fresh, the fish is always really, really tender. I don’t know how they do it, I can never cook my own fish and get it that tender. The orange cajun sauce is tasty. I love their side of rice(and it’s only $ 1 for a big bowl). They even have beer and wine. Service is quick, prices are really reasonable. They sometimes have deals/discounts on their mobile website so check it out and save some extra $.
