Haven’t lived in Erie for a few years and this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Visited the bar on Wednesday before thanksgiving and the band was phenomenal and they even had a drink special. Stopped by today to get my favorite black bean burger and ramen slaw. I noticed the chef was different than when I lived in Erie in 2012 — but it shouldn’t make too big of a difference. The food quality has gone down and my waiter was a jerk. It’s really too bad cause I do like this place a lot. Just need some happier employees with less attitude. Maybe they were having an off day — but those experiences are always remembered.

Very cool bar with an awesome and varied beer selection. I had the venison burger with port wine cheese. It was good if a bit salty. Bartenders were nice

It’s good food. The one guy that works there, always around is kinda creepy. The beer selection is a craft beer persons dream but of the 40+ beers on tap they rarely have anything close to a normal beer. I am not calling for a Bud Light or Miller Light(Which still would be smart to sell because they make money) but just a Magic Hat, 312, Stella. Bathroom situation is not good.

I have really enjoyed my few experiences here for lunch. They offer a great rotating menu that uses fresh ingredients. The environment is relaxed and comfortable, with large windows that let in natural light from the street. It would make a great place to grab some small plates and drinks after work, or have a fun date night. The food is more simple bistro then pub food, and the use of fresh ingredients is really prominent. The menu offers a good selection of sandwiches and small plates that are well prepared and composed. Unfortunately some of the dishes just don’t quite come together completely to give this place five stars. For instance the lettuce wraps come with a great dipping sauce and the idea is there, but the chicken was kind of mushy and wilted the lettuce two much that the entire thing fell apart. Good idea, and some of the flavors were great, but it just didn’t come all together in the end. Overall good fresh food, seasonally changing menu, and decent drink selection. I will definitely be returning.

I’ve been here numerous times. The servers have always been helpful and knowedgeable. The beer list is extensive and a good one — has a good mix of local and other brews. The food has always been very good.

Server seemed like we were an inconvenience. Menu was small. Appetizer I had was hummus. Was a little dry, bread was good. Tomato was bitter. Ordered chicken hummus avocado sandwhich. Was a bit salty but edible. Nothing special. Atmosphere felt dirty and run down not edgy and neat. Beer menu is huge. Chose this over cloud 9 and wish I went to cloud 9. Was edible but would t go back.

Amazing atmosphere and delicious food that you wouldn’t really expect in a bar. The employees are all very attentive, even the kitchen staff are helpful and kind. The Mac and cheese with squash and the one with bacon are both A grade Amazing. I like that they have an open kitchen so sitting at the edge of the bar allowed me to see how efficient and clean it is while eavesdropping on the cooks hilarious conversations and joining in. Love this place, will deffinetely be returning here soon!

Stopped in before a Sea Wolves game for a drink and quick bite. Got to sit outside, have some snacks and chat with others. Amazing beer list, lots of great local beers to try. We had the fruit n cheese platter, and hummus plate a great starter to our evening. Casual atmosphere, friendy people, good food.

Went there before the«Roar on the Shore» Steppenwolf concert based on the rumor of a large craft beer selection and good food. Well, it was true + more. In addition to a selection of over 40 craft beers, a unique menu, our server«Gordon», real name Elliott, was great. Great service and great sense of humor! Also, when we asked for sweet potato fries, which are not a menu item, the chef made them. Check this place out!

Came here on a Saturday before an otters game. We arrived at 530 so we assumed we would have plenty of time for a beer and a quick bite. They told us there was going to be a hour and a half wait… for sandwiches! And only about 2⁄3 of the tables were occupied! We declined to eat because we didn’t want to miss the game and grabbing a beer was a long enough wait for us.

We came here on a Friday night to watch my boyfriend’s good friend play live music. We showed up a little later in the evening after dinner so we did not partake in the food, but the menu looked really good. This review is purely on the atmosphere and the grand beer selection that was available to us. First off, it was a really fun crowd and the music was awesome. Second, the restaurant was clean and the restrooms were as well. Third, the beer selection is awesome and they have tons of beer on tap. It was late night happy hour when we showed up so all drafts were half off. Score! It gave me the opportunity to try a few different things. They also have these chilling discs on the bar to keep your beer cold, which I have never seen before so it was pretty exciting! The girls behind the bar were helpful, quick, and friendly. Considering that this is the only bar I went to while in Erie, I cant really compare it to anything else.

Food was seriously AMAzeballs! We ordered a burger and the Mac n cheese… oh so yummy! We were in the smaller gastropub area and their beer taps weren’t working so that was a bummer. But, hey a little vodka will do the trick too! Eclectic atmosphere where all the food and sauces are homemade… place gets a thumbs up from me!

Disclaimer: I am not from Pennsylvania. The menu features«standard» bar food with one twist: everything is home made, and well-made at that! Per the chef, the standard menu doesn’t change but all their ingredients are purchased fresh. Sauces, dressings and even the ground beef for burgers are made in-house. The beer selection is solid and the bartender is not shy to provide a sample to the curious patron. Service was prompt and friendly(I did go on a slow Tuesday night), the prices were fair and the quality outstanding. My only qualm is with the atmosphere and the décor: half of the restaurant has an English pub motif, the other half is a bright stainless gastropub, except both are executed on the level you might expect at a restaurant in the terminal of a medium-sized airport: comfortable but cheap. Do check the specials menu before you order: it is guaranteed to change every week and the creativity, applied with their tenacity for quality will not disappoint.

Food was surprisingly inventive… I got a club because I wasn’t very hungry the thing was huge. It came with choice of side I got the couscous salad which was different but really good. It was cheap too but food and drink in Erie usually is. They also have a nice selection of beers.

Atmosphere is more bar than gastropub, but the food is pretty good. Burger was overcooked, but this was expected — there seems to be a regional tendency to translate«rare» into«medium well» in Western Pennsylvania. Ah well. Still a decent burger on a good roll. And I can’t complain about any sandwich that comes with a side of Greek-style quinoa instead of fries. Nice touch. The chef’s take on banh mi was way better. The kitchen is open late. And the bar has some great beer specials. So Jekyll & Hyde has some good things going for it.

I have only been here twice and had decent experiences both times… decent being the operative word. Being from Erie, it is nice to see that a place like this exists. The food is pretty good(we had the hummus and guacamole apps before and this time just had the hummus, falafel and black bean burger)… all decent. I am not a fan of their yogurt dill spread that was on my falafel… I was expecting Tzatziki sauce and was quite disappointed with their concoction. My framboise was also served in a 16oz Pint… this should never be more than a 9 – 11 oz bevvie as it gets too hard to drink at the end… most places do not serve it like this. The bartender admitted she was newer, and had not tried many of the beers… in a place like this where Craft beers and imports are abundant, I think it would be important for them to be more knowledgeable. I can see this place improving with time. I will definitely give it another chance our next visit to Erie.

Used to be one of the favorite places for my wife and I. The service has been increasingly rude of late, especially on the Hyde side. Tonight we literally almost had our food thrown at us by the bartender. I am writing this from the Tap House, where we went after this latest incident. Unlike J&H, the TH is packed, and it’s easy to see why. Here you’re not viewed with a mild contempt by the staff. J& H does have great food but what good is it if you feel like you’re intruding on the staff by eating it there? Update:2/17/2013 My wife and I stopped in and lo and behold one of the good bartenders(Hillary) who left in the past year was now back on Saturday. And miracle of miracles, unlike the d-bag guy that used to bartend when she left, she actually worked hard and served with a smile. I do think the owner needs to hire more help, though, as the bartenders are always running behind and between the bars. It’s got to be hard enough to bartend a crowded bar, but to have to bounce and serve food seems to be putting way too much pressure on them. The food, as always, was good. Hillary’s return merits another star, and we will give this place a second chance.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere, friendly service, good beer selection. Still, as Erie only proclaimed«gastropub,» I did expect a little better food. I had the shrimp burger and it was excellent — tasty, seemed like it was fresh made, and the cucumber sauce was delicious. My girlfriend had the short rib french dip — and it was probably the worst french dip I ever had. It was so absurdly salty(even for me, and I love salt) that my girlfriend could only take a bite of it. My girlfriend’s Greek pasta salad was good, but not mind-blowing, although my sausage and potato soup was very tasty. Overall, we had a fine experience — again, I loved the selection of beer, the friendly service, and being able to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather — but I was a little disappointed in our food. I will definitely check it out again, as there are other things on the menu I’d love the try, such as the Vietnamese pork sandwich, and update my review as such.

The food was the best part of this restaurant. The atmosphere seems to be having an identity crisis(perhaps on purpose? Hence the name? I’m not sure). I would classify the food as upscale/pretentious bar food, yet the décor screamed sports bar. The two styles seemed at odds with each other. Simply an odd combination. This restaurant is small with a handful of tables, small bar and TEENIE one-(wo)man kitchen. There was one woman working the tables/bar and she seemed completely overwhelmed. It took awhile to even get menus(hard to blame since it was only her, but still rough service). The food took a long while to come out because there was only one chef! Despite being busy, she seemed to be working super slowly. Probably her laid back style — but shocking since it was so busy. The food was the highlight of the evening. The handmade black bean burger was tasty, but the seitan Philly wrap was the winner. Really tasty. Food gets 3 stars. Rest of the restaurant gets 2 stars. Needs some more staffing and an identity clarification.
