Everyone rates restaurants differently. For me I want places that have good food and make me feel good being there. Johnny Oceans is five stars for me. The owner, Shawn, always makes it a point to come over and chat — it really makes me feel welcome, not just another customer. Eating outside in Oakway Center is perfect for my family(the kids play in the grass while our food is prepared). I love the Caribbean Wraps and the burgers(be warned: the fries are addicting).

5 stars is easy here, every time. The Owner, Shawn, hand selects ingredients from across one of the most fertile valleys on the planet, our willamette valley! Everything is sourced locally and in addition to this the food he makes is certainly one of a kind. It’s perfect. Don’t hesitate to go here and try something delicious. You will be very, very satisfied the ambiance is wonderful also and can’t be beat! The whole experience makes it the perfect place to return again and again to !

Way over priced for the amount of food. Service wasn’t good as well. I’ve heard good things and I’m sad that this didn’t go so well. For 3 people it was around $ 60 we couldn’t sit outside even though it was nice and still sunny out. I’m disappointed in this, I was really hoping for something good.

Great place to have a lunch outside since there is a very pleasant courtyard, but the interior looked very nice too in a dark wood cozy sort of way. The servers were attentive and assisted my companion in making a curry selection. I knew right away that I was going for the rice stuffed grilled avocado. I picked right, the rice was super flavorful and had the same sort of char you would expect from a paella. Definitely worth a visit if you have not been. If it had not been lunch I would have a dived in to the beer selection, maybe next time!

I wasn’t really impressed on my first visit. Went in to grab a quick bite the other day while running errands. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak special thinking it would be like a regular Philly cheesesteak — there was nothing on the chalkboard to indicate otherwise. However, this Philly cheesesteak had some kind of sesame teriyaki sauce on it. I really dislike sweet sauces and teriyaki sauces in general and would never think to ask, «Oh, hey, by the way, does your cheesesteak come with teriyaki sauce?» It was just a weird combination. The fries were slightly breaded and disappointing. Additionally, the iced tea didn’t taste fresh brewed — it tasted like it was from a fountain, which was disappointing. I guess I should have asked if it was fresh brewed.

So great and delicious! I brought my grandparents here one weekend and we were blown away. The best grill food I have ever had in Eugene! Insane flavor that explodes in my mouth. I can’t believe I hadn’t eaten here before because I was told by the owner, they have been here for 29 years! It will be my new weekly spot. My grandma ordered the stuffed avocados which we hadn’t seen anywhere else before. And my grandpa ordered coconut curry with prawns which he loved. I had a classic burger that tasted char grilled out of this world. Everyone seem really nice and experienced and was pretty darn clean in and out. Hope to try all the dishes the cool Caribbean style grill has to offer.

Never have I been as happy as when I walked out of this restaurants doors. Waitress asked me a question and then walked off before I had the opportunity to respond. I shook this off and ordered my family drinks. She brought me back something that sort of resembled a margarita. Tasted like nothing but super sour margarita mix you get from the local liquor store. I’m not a picky person but could barely choke half of it down. Somehow I managed to place an order through all of this. However after seeing my waitress who was very rude dancing in the kitchen I cancelled our dinner before it was too late and paid $ 12 for two soft drinks and quite possibly the worst alcoholic beverage I have ever tasted which I only managed to drink half of. I would have talked to the owner but he was too busy running around hugging other customers making them feel uncomfortable. Reason I came here was because of some good seared tuna I had for lunch in years past. If you go good luck. I won’t be back.

Haven’t been here in awhile. I was blown away with the food. Amazing stuffed avocado.(Bacon-nuff said) and a Caribbean chicken pasta dish was great. Good selection of beers and things. See you again.

I’ve been going to Johnny Ocean’s since way back in the day when it had a jukebox and their burgers were wrapped in paper. This was the spot my grandma and I loved, and it still remains my favorite! The only thing that has changed is the Caribbean décor. When someone asks me where the best burger in Eugene is… I always say Johnny Ocean’s. It all has to do with the magical ‘Johnny Sauce’. I could eat this sauce with everything… My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I always order a big side of it to dip my fries! The owner is one of the nicest guys, and always greets you when he’s there.

A little pricey for what you get. I feel like I could get the same quality food at a Shari’s. I would have given this place 4 stars had the staff been a little friendlier. I had to ask for refills several times. The young girls working here are snobby and seem to be more interested in catching up with co workers than working. The owner is friendly. The environment is nice. Wish I had better things to say. Pretty disappointed.

My husband and I have come here three times. I really do like their grilled avocado and had a craving for it. Friday night I convince my husband to give it another try. Hmmm. Our first clue should have been that, unlike other restaurants we tried to get into, there was not a wait. In fact, many seats available. I ordered my usual and he opted for a chicken salad… at $ 13.50. What he got was a breaded, dry piece of chicken thrown on a bit of lettuce with a few vegetables… canned black olives and the like. …really… we would have been better off at Burger King. Also…no beers on tap… bad news! Third time is not the charm.

I really wanted to like this place but the food doesn’t do anything for me. I’ve given this place three chances so far and tried all the most popular dishes and I always leave with a weird taste in my mouth. I don’t know what’s going on with the stuffed avocados but there’s something in it that just tastes strange to me. Perhaps it’s the ginger and lime sauce? After awhile I just ate the avocado by itself. The Johnny’s bowl looked and sounded really good but ended up being a total disappointment. Womp womp womp. I felt like there wasn’t any harmony between all the ingredients and it fell short of what it could have been. So much potential for amazingness there. I should have gone to café yumm. Maybe the fourth time’s the charm?

Owner is always in when I come in and he always says hi to me bc he knows me now. I came with a friend and I tried the grilled stuffed avocado and now it’s my favorite thing. Minus the bacon. Add shrimp Super good food cool interior clean bathrooms. I recommend trying if you haven’t. In the Oakway center and during the summer you can eat outside as well.

Sorry Johnny. I’m snot going to come back after our last(and first) experience. My wife and I had a had a rare chance to snag lunch together a few weeks ago. We dont do this too much, however the stars and moons aligned just right, and we were snot going to let this opportunity pass us by. I’m snot going to say that this place is horrible. I really dont feel I had the full meal visit/experience that the owner would like his customers to have. As we were sat, we opened the menu’s and started to check and see what they had for lunch. We were snot blown away by the selection, but there were a few items that grabbed my attention. The Steak Sandwich sounded just right. This is where things start to go awry. Our waitress was on our way to take our order. When she stopped at the table, she stood there, smiling, asking how our day was going. I couldn’t help but notice that she had a cold. Or allergies. Or something amongst those lines that was causing her nose to run. And when I say, run… I’m not joking… this girl had a large glob of SNOT(yes…all the«snot» referrances earlier were intentional), running from her nose. She sucked, inhaled and did everything short or using the back of her hand to wipe it away from her face. Poor girl. I do feel bad for her. But on the other hand, if this was happening… I would think she would try and deal with this in another way, like staying home for instance. After she left, she did make it back to the kitchen to wipe her nose. This was noticed as she brought our drinks back to the table. Thank god she did snot let it sit there a moment longer on her face. When the food was delivered, the mucus made its way back onto the upper lip of our server. *Vomit* I wasn’t able to eat due to the concern and loss of appetite. I paid right around $ 15 for my lunch which went right into the garbage. I realize this is probably a one off and very unlikely to happen again… But do you REALLY think I’m running back so willingly to try it again? Snot so much…

I’ve been to the Caribbean… this place does a mediocre job at best to capture the flavors of it. For my first time going there, I expected a little more service, but it seemed the regulars get the attention/good service… which is OK, but why would I want to come back if I felt I was being ignored? My girlfriend asked to have her salad without croutons, and her dinner without the bread, due to her allergy. Needless to say, the waitress could not have cared less, and brought it out with bread anyways, which, the bread tasted like burnt oil. When she noticed me picking it off, said«oooooh, you have a wheat allergy» and we said«yeaah, that’s why we told you at the beginning.» Won’t be going back due to lack of service and unimpressive taste.

I got the Johnny chicken gourmet sandwich. I’m not sure a warmed up piece of preformed chicken, with some cold bbq sauce poured on after cooking, cheap lettuce and tomato, served on a sesame seed hamburger bun qualifies as gourmet. Only give the second star for the fries. My wife had a shrimp curry and had to ask for salt, under seasoned curry? Need to do better Johnny.

Came for dinner last night to celebrate my roommates birthday(3 adults &111 yr old) and we were greeted by, my guess was the owner. We felt very welcomed & totally excited to try it out! All if us were more than happy with our meals! Tasty food & don’t even get me started on those fries! They are exactly like the ones I craved that they sold in a cup at my high school almost 10 yrs ago. We will most def be back to try all the other foods that sounded magnificent!

What we ate: Coconut curry Grilled stuffed avocado Johnny bowl(w/ahi) So happy we found this place! We just stumbled upon this restaurant by chance(on our road trip up to Seattle). Everything was fairly priced(around $ 10 — except the ahi). We really liked all our food, especially the grilled stuffed avocado! Friendly servers too :). If I’m in the area, definitely will come back here.

Food is Carribean/eclectic/American. I had the Patty Melt with Fries. Beef was of good quality as was cheese and grilled onions. Bread was marbled rye– Yum! Fries were good and had a batter-like finish. Service was good and place was clean. It is a nice setting with views in one area of the Oakway Mall courtyard. Worth a stop. Check the daily special when there!
