McDonald’s has just launched a new product. Mozzarella Sticks. I was eager to give them a try. After I ordered and paid I received a small box, about 3 ½ inch square, and a little tub of marinara sauce. While I understand their desire to have a container for each item, and in this case the box style will keep them warmer longer, I also thought what a waste of money to design and create another package, when they could have used french fry containers. The fry containers would be more appealing to those of us who like to eat and drive, rather than risking life and limb to fumble with a box. Furthermore, while a box will keep them warm longer, the moisture building in the box will also make them not as crispy. The flavour is the real reason we eat such things, and these mozzarella sticks are not a disappointment. They are lightly breaded, a big plus, and not overly salty. There are some herbs in the breading, another big plus. I opened them straight away and had one. It wasn’t so hot that my mouth could burn, it was just right. The second was eaten about 3 minutes later, just as tasty, with the cheese only slightly more solid. The last of the three was saved until I got home and could try it with the marinara sauce. The last mozzarella stick, doesn’t that sound sad? First I removed the cover for the marinara sauce and had a taste of the sauce by itself. A nice tomato flavour, as it should have, with an herbal and pepper finish. Then I dipped my mozzarella stick and took a bite. The stick was still a bit crisp on the outside, and the cheese had not gone solid, though it had been about 15 minutes since my purchase. The combination of the sauce and stick is lovely. This product will make a nice addition to their menu, as long as they can maintain the quality.

The drive thru is efficient and they always get the order right. The drive thru is accessible through the parking lot of the shopping center which is somewhat inconvenient. The entryway is tight — you definitely need to slow down when entering. Food is no better or worse than most other McDonalds. I found the sweet tea to be old on occasion. I drink enough of it to know when the tea has been sitting either overnight or for the whole day.
