We had a fun visit to the tavern in May. We hunted down the DBT based on Todd Snider’s song(who hasn’t?) and were curious so went in. The bartender was really nice to us non-locals and made us feel much at home. The beer was dirt-cheap. And our conversations with the regular customers were nice and heart-warming. It’s always fun to meet new people in new surroundings and hear their stories. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and took a photo of the outside as our memory!

Cool building, great location, fantastic service, friendly people. Has that funky old biker/dive bar vibe tucked in a historic old building.

Legendary! Look for the bullet hole up above the front window. The owners are awesome. Everyone is laid back. Have a beer, grab a seat, and listen to some stories. If you get lost, walk out back and the signs will tell you where to go. Cash Only!

Old-as-in-historic and quaint and pure. Excellent service from Lizzie(and others, I’m sure). Folklore and ghost stories and history, too. What a place to sip a bottle of brew! Ask about the ghosts and the pictures on the wall, and look up at dollars on the ceiling, stapled so they won’t fall. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em and slide a puck It’s a great place to go before you’re gonna … ;) … Seriously, the Devil’s Backbone Tavern is a great dive full of history and truly friendly locals. Make time for this one if you are in Fischer, Wimberley, or San Marcos. And, it’s one of the only places in the area open on Sunday evenings. Bottle beer only. No drafts, no wine, no liquor. Quite old TVs, so while you can check the score, it’s not a good place to watch the game. The shuffleboard is old and quirky, but that just adds to the fun. Electronic darts are quite unused. The Juke Box is pretty good. –1 for: indoor smoking, no WiFi +1 for: a fabulous fireplace, character, a large selection of bottled beer, a place where the conversation is more important than the«sound».

This place is legendary. I have heard stories about this place for years but had no idea it still exists. In fact, I still wouldn’t know if I had not gotten lost out in the Hill Country. The second I saw it I knew I had to go in and have a beer. This place has been around since the 1930’s and it shows. The building pre-dates air conditioning so come in the evening or after the weather starts to cool. They don’t take credit cards so bring cash.

Well I’m a little reluctant to put this Honky-Tonk on here because it truly is the best place to hideout in Central Texas. It’s way out in the middle of nowhere on one of the most picturesque stretches of the Hill Country known as the Devil’s Backbone. This area is a great place to do some back road driving with the top down blasting some Texas Country Music. The joint is a rustic Honky-Tonk /Biker Bar /Watering Hole /Hard Workers hang out. The place to go and sip a cold LoneStar beer deep in the heart of Texas. Come on an evening when they have live music and you’ll be surprised how well these country folks can play.
