The best kept secret in Door County. Don’t let the coffee shop vibe fool you, it’s secretly the best place for lunch in Fish Creek.

In a dead-winter season of Door County, this was the perfect cozy stop for my family — loved it so much we went twice. If the«Chuck Norris» is on the menu, GETIT! And the people offer the perfect balance of warmth and sass(the chef shouting at familiar locals) — beautiful view of the water, great selection of games — and all kinds of characters… And fantastic sandwiches

Driven by this place many times but never stopped in – really didn’t know what kind of place it was. After checking out some Unilocal reviews it looked good so we gave it a shot and were very pleased. The coffees were excellent, and so was the food. I had a «meatzilla»(I think that’s what it was called) breakfast sandwich; guest had the mufaletta. Both were outstanding, well-proportioned, and fairly priced. We both said we could have split a sandwich and been happy. Your milage may vary on the sizes, but you won’t be disappointed. Grab a table and order at the counter. Great views too.

Not a big fan. I had the Muffelatta a cup of coffee and upgraded the side to a chili the sandwich and chili were 2 stars at best. I will say the coffee was really good and the view was great. My wife had a chicken sandwich which she said was really good. It’s counter service and the service was below average. I would recommend for coffee and a nice view. But for a meal there are better choices.

Cute little shop along Main Street. I can only speak for the coffee however, they have a full espresso bar, bakery case, and café menu. I stopped in for a coffee and left with a white mocha. So yummy and reasonable prices for a ‘resort’ area.

It was my first time visiting Door County, my boyfriend and I were looking for some coffee; upon walking into Blue Horse we were quite pleased. It was an enjoyable atmosphere with a good menu. We ordered 2 pastries, one regular coffee and a latte. We got our pastries right away, but the coffees, however took 20 minutes. They were not extremely busy at this time so I was confused as to why it too so long. A younger girl had ordered a latte after us and she asked the Barista if they had skipped her order because she was waiting for 15 min. The Barista rudely said back«I can only go as fast as the espresso machine let’s me, there are many other orders in front of you.» Mind you the girl couldn’t have been more that 12 years old and her dad even mentioned something about how long it was taking. The girl said that she did not order an espresso. Again, she got a rude response. Once the young girl did get her coffee the two Baristas began whispering and talking about the young girl after she had left. I understand it is a small coffee shop but regardless staff should always have a level of professionalism. I was taken back by the lack of urgency and unprofessionalism that took place for a lot of customers to see. Whispering did not make it any less obvious that they were annoyed and talking about a 12 year old girl. The pastries were good and the coffee was okay, but needless to say I would not return.

GREAT coffee and lattes. Great breakfast sandwiches too but plan on a bit of a wait, this place is obviously a favorite in town. We were ordering take-out with kids in tow but the white mocha latte was so good that I really didn’t mind the wait too much. The service was wonderful, very friendly, up beat staff and a beautiful view of the lake right across the street. It was a Saturday morning so I am assuming that this was one of their busiest times; I would love to come back and dine in next time we are in town, perhaps on a week day when it will be less crowded.

The BHBC was quite good. We stopped in for breakfast sandwiches and coffee drinks to take with us on our way home. The coffee had excellent body and flavor, and the breakfast sandwiches tasted great but were a tad greasy — no big surprise, really. My wife thought the fruit parfait was meh, as was the fruit in the little fruit cups. They were a nice touch, but local strawberries and cherries would have been a big improvement over imported and likely frozen grapes and melon. The place is open and light-filled, and there is a nice view out the front. All of the staff were as friendly and helpful as anyone could be.

I’ve gone to the Blue Horse a few times over the years(before they moved), and have always enjoyed it, but I thought I’d write a review this time for a very specific reason: their accommodation of vegans. On their site, I’d seen that they had a menu item labeled vegan and, upon arriving, ordered it right off the menu. When it arrived, the bun had cheese on it. So, I asked for a cheese-free bun, and, when the chef came out to deliver the revised item, he asked if it was meant to be vegan. Upon learning that it was, he apologized, and explained that they had switched to an in-house black bean patty that was no longer vegan and hadn’t yet updated the site. He was extremely gracious about it, and very happy to make something else on the menu work. It’s difficult to be vegan in Door County, and it was really heartening to have sympathy from the chef. So: Wonderful customer service.(…and good food, too!)

Pro: The name of this cute coffee shop is the first thing that captivated me. They have an artistic logo on the mugs and a crisp, clean décor. I sat by wall of windows overlooking Green Bay on a gorgeous June afternoon. The latte I ordered was as smooth as velvet and just the right temperature. Con: I would advise them to expand their line of baked goods. To me, any independent coffee house should have a homemade biscotti, especially when the coffee drink was as tasty as mine.

Stop here for a great cup of coffee and breakfast! Amazing service first of all that comes with a non-chain, small town coffee shop. Great view of the water just across the street that reminds you that you are on vacation. Finally great food and served quickly. We were lucky they were serving juevos rancheros on the morning we stopped in. It was amazing. If this place wasn’t 5 hours away I’d be there daily!!!

Always the best breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Love this place! Dog friendly(outdoor) seating. It’s one of those memorable places you have to go to. I’m in town at least once a month. So I am always at the Blue Hoarse for coffee and a sandwich. Very healthy and really tastey breakfast, lunch and casual dinner.

I went in with my fiancé on a Friday Morning. I had the«Salty Dog» — essentially a delicious salted caramel latte — and my fiancé had plain latte. We split a cinnamon bun. The experience was excellent. The service speed was on par with what you would expect for a respectable espresso drink and the cinnamon bun was sweet, delicious, and freshly prepared(i.e., it wasn’t one of those hardened bricks you usually find elsewhere). The food and espresso drinks were well worth the quick trip and the Blue Horse is certainly a welcome relief to us out-of-towners who are addicted to java.

I don’t usually give out 5 stars but on our weekend stay this past summer we went back twice for breakfast… even with my very choosy parents. We had the breakfast sandwiches which I’m still thinking of months later… that should say a lot. They were perfect. The bread was warm and eggs/meats fresh. They were topped with things like marinated red onion, arugala… very gourmet and very decadent delish! The coffees were great and the view from the porch dining was of the water/little beach and peninsula state park. A must visit in Fish creek Wisconsin!

This is one of the reasons we go to Door County at all. Mostly I find the food and bev on the peninsula overpriced and underwhelming. Not so for Blue Horse. They serve wonderful coffee and other beverages, and do breakfast and lunch with great style and artistry. We stayed within steps of the café, at the Java Hut, and our morning routine included their coffee. I usually got a caramel vanilla latte with skim, which was as beautiful to behold as it was to drink. But I also had their caramel apple cider and chai and they were each as uniquely wonderful as the other. The raspberry cream cheese muffin was a delicious behemoth, perfectly formed with slightly crunchy muffin top with pastry sugar and about a 50 – 50 fruit to muffin ratio inside, with sweet, moist ribbons of fresh raspberry goodness. I cannot speak to the other pastries since I stopped at this one, and bought it several days in a row. Their breakfast fare was fantastic across the board, and their lunch offerings were also delightful. The thing that best describes all of the items I had from their menu is the word fresh. The food tasted so fresh and full of life that I could not help but feel better about life in general once I was done eating there. And I am a Norwegian. Effusive praise doesn’t come easy to me. So you know that this must be an understatement.

Almond and soy milk! Blue Horse Beach Café is the Evanston café of Door County. Let me say that upfront as both a happy Evanstonian and someone who enjoys the fact that I can get alternative options of creamer. As life would have it I am not lactose intolerant at all, but I find creamer(and cowmilk) to be pretty unappetizing, mostly because of my knowledge of what goes into it(oil and butter). This isn’t health consciousness, but who needs a bunch of butter when you want to get a drink? do you order a coffee with butter? Probably not. On the flip side, soymilk *can* be good sometimes and almond milk is good all the times. All of them. Yet, not many places carry almond milk. –endrant about milks.- So back to this café/restaurant, which is not negative and is frankly… awesome. Blue Horse Beach Café(hereafter BHBC) starts off cool before you even get inside. They have some kind of community friendly mini-library out front where people can borrow/provide a book for others to read. Also, as the title indicates it’s possible to sit in the café with a good view of the beach. When you get in you see a giant selection of loose leaf teas and coffee/tea options, as well as a pastry display. Pastries looked awesome, and the tea/coffee options were good. What was even better was the loose leaf chai, because I love chai. This is not the«tazo chai in a box» ala starbucks, which I also love because it has a type 2 diabetes causing quantity of sugar. I have a sweet tooth and yet still have teeth, even if the two concepts are contradictory. No, instead it’s the awesome loose leaf delicious chai that to me sometimes tastes a little earl-grey ish. So I guess I like earl grey as well. Tea was awesome. Whatever magic mix is in their chai is good. With that said, wifey ordered a salad which looked pretty delicious, and I ordered this sandwich which was tantalizing. It was the Veg Out(see photo). Ingredients(copy and paste): house roasted red peppers, feta, red onion, tomatoes, greens, jalapenos, cream cheese, chipotle, egg, & cheddar cheese on telera bread. Telera bread means next to nothing to me, but this combination? Amazing. This is a legitimate explosion of spicy, sour and savory flavor in my mouth. My wife even invited herself to this party in my mouth by taking a bite of my sandwich, and I could see her eyes light up as she sent her tastebuds straight to pleasure town. This left me sad, as I had slightly less of this delicious sandwich to eat. It was that good. Seriously, this is a magical sandwich. Go there, buy it, eat it, and thank me later. Additionally, don’t let your wife take a bite, tell her to buy her own. To add to the experience, the staff were extremely friendly and very chill, and all the customers seemed to be fairly trendy as well. This is definitely like an Evanston coffee shop in Door County. When I come up to door county again, I’m going straight to pleasure town. I’m going to eat at BHBC again.
