Prefer this place over Chinese House. Their chapssal tangsooyuk is so crunchy and portion is pretty good too. Their jjampong and jajangmyun are pretty good. Noodle was chewy in a good way sauce was not too sweet and good. I took home the leftover tangsooyuk and sauce on the side and heat it up using my fryingpan and did not add any oil and the oil from tangsooyuk came out and refried it itself and was crispy and crunchy enough for me to enjoy. Not some soggy leftover tangsooyuk! It was quite busy on Sunday afternoon and the waitress made me sit in some cold isolated area but food is too good for me to not come back,

I’m pretty disgusted. I just went into the parking lot upon leaving the café next to this noodle house. as I walked to my car, I saw a shadow, moving. which then turned into 2, and 3, and 10, etc… I walked up and shined a light on it… COCKROACHES!!! ANOBSENEAMOUNT!!! TOTALINFESTATION! They are ‘pouring out’ in the hundreds, coming from the concrete curb directly leading from the noodle house. I have never eaten there but I will never ever even think about it. cheers And PS… HOWTHEHELLDOTHEYHAVEAN ‘A’-Rating by the Department of mental health and hygiene??? #departmentofmentalhealthandhygiene #dep #foodandsafety #311 #nyc311

The food here is great but I’m only giving it two stars cause the staff was just rude. I went there a few times and the last time I went with a friend and my kids, one of the waitress had the most nastiest look ever. Mind you we ended going around lunch hour so it was packed so we ended going into the back room. The seats throughout the whole restaurant are pretty close to each other leaving me little room to take my kids outta the stroller and into their seats. They kept rushing me to take the kids out the stroller cause i was blocking their way. I felt sorry cause I was blocking their way but there was literally no room for me to do it else where and I was trying to take the kids out as fast as I can as well as fold the stroller. Their serves was slow and rude. The only time they were nice was around the time we were almost done with the food. Probably thought they could get some good tip if they were nice to us in the end. I really didn’t appreciate the looks they gave me.

Honestly the food was really not that great. I got set 1 and 4 which were the black bean sauce noodles with dumplings and fried meat and my sister got the same thing but in a larger size. The portions were extremely large. I had a hard time finishing my food so I didn’t finish it but my brother and sister both tried really hard to finish theirs due to a rumor that they glare at you angrily if you do not. When we all decided that it was time to go, I asked for the bill and I asked to take the meat to go. A waitress came up to me and asked me if I would like to take my unfinished meal to go and I said no thanks politely. She then stood there and stared at me like she was disappointed at me for not finishing my food and wasting it. I really did not appreciate that and I guess the rumors were correct. I won’t be going back again.

Food was delicious. I came here with my friend today(sunday) at 7 pm. The wait wasn’t too long. It was about a 5 – 10 minute wait. We got sat next to the window in the corner. It was kind of hard to flag waiters down because no one really comes to the corner. You have to really try and call out to them. We ordered the fried rice with chicken and veggies and the fried pork with sweet n sour sauce. The food came in like 10 minutes. Super quick! Everything was delicious. I would say if you’re getting one of their dishes like the fried pork, go with more people because it is a HUGE dish! We couldn’t even finish half. I believe that they have lunch specials and the prices are cheaper. It might be hard to find parking because it’s right on northern. They accept credit cards(no discover) but they prefer you to tip with cash.

Service is a bit slow but that could have been because the workers were about to go on a lunch break but still, no excuse for 3 people to just stare at the food when customers water cups infront of them are clearly empty. Food itself was good but nothing that I haven’t tasted anywhere else. I got the half and half bowl with jjampong and jjajang. 3 pieces of meat in the jjanjang but a good amount of seafood in the jjampong. The sweet and sour pork was good but i’m use to seeing more vegetables besides pineapple, onion and carrot in the sweet and sour sauce. Interesting menu as i’ve never seen the option for both this noodles to be on a hot sizzle plate but it looked delicious. i’ll come by here again to check our those sizzling plates.

Great lunch spot for a good meal at a reasonable price. That’s why it gets the three stars. Their portions are great for sharing and there’s something for all. They offer classic ja ja myn(black bean and onion sauce noodles) in a hefty bowl if you order it by itself. There’s even a bigger noodle bowl if you’re willing to splurge. For $ 20, you get a large bowl of noodle soup topped with a variety of seafood. It’s totally big enough to share. I also liked the fried dumplings, though it’s not bursting with filling, it makes up in taste. There’s minced pork and green veggies on the inside. The skin was crisp and not oily. Just the right amount of crunch when you bite it. For this latest visit, my husband and I ordered off their weekday lunch specials. I picked the ja ja myn combo with fried pork. The sauce was really appetizing, sweet and a hint of sour because of the pineapples. But I wouldn’t order the pork again because the strips were thin and had more fried dough on the outside than the meat part. That was a let down especially since I liked the sauce. My husband ordered the ja ja myn too but with the fried chicken combo. Both dishes looked similar in appearance(comes with cabbage slaw and diluted french dressing, and two fried dumplings) but the chicken he ordered was way better. The sauce was tart and had a nice kick. Hint of duck sauce and red peppers. And better still, you could taste the actual chicken! When you bite into the meat, it’s still juicy inside. Tip when ordering the combo meals, eat the fried meats first. It’s best when still hot! Once it cools, it tastes like wet tempura. Another great sign of a good establishment, they’re always busy and with tons of Korean patrons. You generally know the food is decent or pretty good if the people of the same ethnicity frequents often, in this case, Korean. This place was packed and it was a weekday. And not common in Asian restaurants, their restrooms are clean and there’s more than one per gender. Very convenient for a restaurant of this size. They have a main dining room, right when you walk in. Beware, if really busy, you may have to share a table. I don’t mind since that is also typical of many Asian establishments. However, the one thing it lacks, is in the service department. While the bus boys are quick to clean up after you when you’re done, they are incredibly slow to serve you. Both in ordering and in getting refills for your beverage. And forget asking for extra napkins, there’s plenty near the waiter stations but you’ll never be able to flag any staffer fast enough, not even for a spill. Overall, I’ve eaten here a few times before but never wrote a review. Figured each time something might be better. Anyway, that’s the reason for my rating.

After seeing a friend post many pictures of the food from YJMC on Facebook, I was finally invited by said friend to join him on his weekly trip. Generally, the idea of Korean style Chinese food baffles me only because I’m not used to it. I’ve had a couple of hits as well as a number of misses with this kind of food, but I have to say that YJMC has impressed me so far. The restaurant was about half filled on a cold Sunday night, but I saw that most of the tables had a combination of the jjajangmyeon(black bean paste noodles), the champong(spicy seafood noodle soup), and the tangsuyuk(sweet and sour fried pork), and our table was no different. Here are my thoughts: — Jjajangmyeon — One half of my noodle combo order. I got the medium spicy version of this and it was perfect. — Champong — The other half of my noodle combo order. This was spicier than the jjajangmyeon but also very delicious. The seafood wasn’t too overcooked and the broth was savory and spicy. — Tangsuyuk — I generally don’t order pork that much, but this might be an exception. Our sweet and sour sauce came on the side(you can have it mixed if you want) and we dipped that crunchy fried meat generously. The service was good too. Apparently some(if not all) of the staff can speak both Korean and Chinese, which makes sense considering the cuisine. I also love how cheap all of the dishes are. The individual jjajangmyeon was $ 6.99 only, and the half-jjajangmyeon half-champong combo was $ 12.99. The most expensive was the tangsuyuk, but for $ 15.99, we got a big plate with a mound of fried pork, well worth the price. I heard the really spicy version of the jjajamyeon is crazy. One day I shall be brave enough(and have enough bathroom recovery time the next day) to try it!

Greeted at the door, the exterior appears bigger than the interior!(In my opinion) Large menu of noodle options and well as rice. I ordered the noodle soup with seafood with the average spicy. I wish it was possible to change the average of spicy-ness. The texture of the noodles were interesting but pretty good. They are also NOT kidding about the seafood. Literally the whole noodle bowl was filled with seafood. I would wish there would of been a little bit more noodles in there. The spicyness is not overbearing and the soup has a great spicy broth to it. Very filling. My compliant would be having to chase down somebody to get water and refill drinks. I’d see literally a group of them standing next to each other chit chatting, while I’m seated on the the other end of the restaurant trying to make eye contact or a odd gesture to get their attention, because you GOT to have some h2O with that spicy. Nonetheless, I love the idea of the little yogurt flavored drinks they’ll give you at the end; reminds me of my childhood, and I think it’s absolutely refreshing.

not so great experience. I went here for lunch(and I come in here all the time) my friends were hesitant to go because of their past terrible experiences. I really enjoy their food so I insisted on coming here… but as soon as we got in and seated the waitress was giving us so much attitude with ordering. I felt like she was talking to us like we were idiots. I was ordering and she was listening and then totally disregarded what I said and moved on to the next person. leading to messing up my order. me and my friends food came last which made no sense before 3 of my other friends who came 15 minutes late meaning they ordered 20 minutes after me got their food before me and another friend. also as my friend was trying to sit down, a waitress just pushed her to walk by but she didn’t even look back or apologize. won’t be coming here again.

Came here with mom for dinner of hand pulled noodle. She got the regular jja jang noodle and I got a noodle with stir fried veggies and seafood(chop suey) but we shared. Both were ~$ 10 each so it was a very economical dinner. Portion were big and by the end of the meal, I was glad that I didn’t do the add on for extra noodle! It was very crowded and lots of tables empty so although we were seated within 5 minutes, we waited around 20 minutes for our food. We had some veggie appetizers while we wait(kimchee, yellow pickled radish, slices of raw onion and black bean sauce). Tea did not get refilled and the customer service wasn’t great, but for good cheap food, I don’t mind the service at all, just don’t come with expectations and you will be fine. Ambiance — lots of families and it may be better to come with more people so you can taste more dishes. also seemed like everyone had a big plate of the fried sweet/sour *something*. free street parking at night. Note: There’s another name for this place — KOREANNOODLE on Unilocal. The bf and I were all excited about checking out a new place until we got there and I know I had been here before… but anyways, the jjajangmyun noodle still good even as take out. Also, this time we tried the fried shrimp(sauce separate). While it was pretty tasty, it was $ 20…not sure if we’d order it again.

Went for a late lunch with some friends on a Saturday and I was extremely disappointed. There aren’t any really good Korean Chinese food places anymore(Chinese House on Northern is probably the best but they have some BAD days) so I wasn’t really expecting much but they somehow managed to lower the bar even further. I got the gan jajang(basically a gourmet version of jajang), my friends got the jam pong, jajang and we split a «kan poon gi.» The gan jajang would have made a decent regular jajang but not gan jajang. Expected a a bit more than a LOT of onions and FEW pieces of meat. It’s not like it was cheaper than other places either. I can only imagine what the jajang would have tasted like. I didn’t even bother. The jam pong was watery and lacked depth to its flavor. Not really spicy either. They don’t mix the sauce of the kan poon gi in a wok. Instead they just pour it over the fried meat. The sauce literally tastes like burger king sweet and sour sauce(it’s supposed to be a bit spicy…). I want to say that if they cooked it with the sauce at the end. it would have tasted good but then I would be lying to you. I don’t think there was much to salvage. Overall, I would recommend that you go somewhere else. The food is subpar and the price is too high for such terrible food. Maybe it might be worth it for the lunch special but I personally wouldn’t waste money on this place. Out of all the Korean Chinese places I’ve tried on Northern and elsewhere, this one probably ranks in the bottom 3… It’ sad because it used to be good in the past. Oh wells. Oh, and the sweet pickled radishes were old.

I come here every time ordering the same items even though there are many options to choose from on the menu. The Ja Jang Myun is the noodle with black bean sauce with onions. You can also order it in spicy which has a great kick to it. I suggest you share this with someone else because I can never seem to finish it all by myself. The fried beef with garlic pepper sauce is great. It’s a huge dish btw, meant for sharing. I always ask to have the sauce on the side for dipping instead of them pouring it on. The Samsun Jam Pong noodles with spicy chop suey seafood soup was so spicy that I couldn’t really eat it. But if you can take spicy then go for it. They also have set combos which is great because it comes with noodles, salad, fried pork etc. They also give you free small yogurt drinks after your meal as a dessert!

The food is decent but I love this place because of their sets. Most places would only offer those types of sets for lunch but this place offers it for dinner as well. The sets here have a taste of 2 main dishes, a salad, dumplings and a few pieces of fruit(I’ve gotten mandarin oranges and chunks of pineapple.) During the summer, I got the fried chicken with garlic pepper sauce + jjajangmyun set. They give a pretty generous portion and I can never finish what they give me, but then again I eat less than a normal person does. For lunch it varies from about $ 7.99-$ 9.99? I’m pretty sure it’s less than $ 10. Yesterday I went there for dinner and I wasn’t in the mood for jjajangmyun so I got the fried rice + donkatsu set which was $ 11.99! For dinner, that’s such a great price. The donkatsu was okay. The piece of pork was SO thin that it didn’t really taste like I was eating any meat. They also gave a side of soup so I liked pouring the soup onto the fried rice. My friend got the sam soon champpong(seafood) and they gave such a generous amount as well. The mussels were huge and so were the shrimp! I think this is a good place if you want to try more than one dish without having an excessive amount of food.

I chose to come here for a birthday celebration because they have a private room that could seat 15 – 20 people. The service was good; if I needed extra attention I just pressed the call button on the wall. I recommend getting the half and half combination of jja jang myun with seafood chop suey(SPICY). It will leave you filling full and satisfied, not wanting to eat any more carbs for the rest of the day. The cake service was not the best, but I honestly didn’t expect much. Since we ordered a lot of food, they gave us a few complimentary dishes like fried dumplings and a few extra beers. However if they do so, please expect to pay in cash. I was told after I charged the bill on my card that we owed $ 11 for the comped beer(turn off for sure but they were friendly throughout so I overlooked it). If you are in Queens and need a venue to have a casual dinner for a large group, consider coming here. Street parking is easy after 7PM and there is also a parking lot shared by other stores.

I came here for my friend’s birthday and the food was good! Most of us have never been to this place so our only Korean friend helped us all order the same thing.(It’s easier for them to understand if you spoke Korean) We all ordered the jja jang myun with the seafood chop suey. It was the half and half combination. I could have definitely shared this dish with someone because there were a lot of noodles. The spicy soup was really good, I almost drank all the soup instead of eating the noodles. Haha. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked the texture of the noodles! The jja jang myun was good, but the sauce was sort of bland. I preferred the seafood chop suey more. We also ordered the fried pork with sweet and sour sauce. Ah, this plate was really good! It was perfectly fried and tasty. Ask for the sweet and sour sauce on the side! That way, the sauce won’t drench the fried pork and make it soggy. The service here is excellent. The server we had was hilarious. The restaurant is really big. We had our own little private room as well.

Came here for a celebration! Thank god my coworkers are awesome and saved the night from being a disaster because this restaurant was not good. We booked a private room for 15 – 20 people and were split into 2 tables which was kind of a bummer but definitely not the end of the world. Service was ok. Sometimes we had to ring the bell a couple of times before anyone came. Make sure someone in your party knows how to speak Korean to make it easier to communicate with the servers! Décor was pretty clean but the seating outside the private rooms seems really cramped and crowded(not for the claustrophobic). Jajang myun– This is my first time trying the Korean version of the black bean noodles but I have tried the Chinese version before. I like the Korean version more! The sauce was not too salty and sort of reminds me of Chinese oyster sauce which I like. The noodles were great as well. Jamja myun– This is half jajang myun and half seafood with noodles in a spicy soup. My friend let me try some of the seafood noodles and I was not particularly a fan of them. The soup was kind of spicy but nothing unbearable. However, since the noodles are in a soup, it made them kind of flavorless because the sauce was so diluted. I was not a huge fan of the seafood. Tang soo yook– Not good :(There was too much dough and not enough meat… The meat was kind of dry and rough in texture… The sauce that you drizzle on the meat was ok. There was also another tang soo yook dish that was glazed in a sweet/sour sauce but I didn’t really like it either because it was too sweet. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in the food at this restaurant with the exception of the black bean noodles which I enjoyed. I would’ve given it 3 stars but they were really rude and rushed us to leave at the end because they claim that they are very popular and had a lot of people waiting to take over our room. They even had the nerve to come in and start cleaning up one of our tables while we were cutting the cake wtf… Probably won’t be back and will definitely try to find a better jajang myun place in the area!

Instead of getting my jjajangmyun fix at guhsong which is right on bell blvd not too far from northern, I tried this place out. Needless to say, it is nothing special. The noodles aren’t as chewy and the jjajangmyun sauce is bland. I also ordered the gganpoong shrimp(fried shrimp with chili sauce), which was a total disappointment. Shrimp was overly breaded and had no crunch to it whatsoever. 3 stars because the jjambbong(red pepper noodle soup) wasn’t bad. Do yourself a favor and drive down to guhsong!

We usually have an order of tangsuyook(sweet & sour pork), another entrée, and a mix of jajangmyun and jjamppong to end our meal. I really enjoy the tangsuyook here. I dont usually like having it in other places, but its fried very nicely here and the sauce is very sweet but tangy. I had a few other items with larger parties. The clams in spicy black bean/oyster sauce with Chinese cabbage and noodles were phenomenal. I had the pan fried jajangmyun last time and it was terrible, all gummy and dry. So it’s a hit-and-miss here sometimes. But I like the jajangmyun here the best out of all the other places in Flushing. The owner ajussi sneaks me a cup of jajang sauce to take home sometimes and I eat it with rice next morning. I’m suspecting that it’s goodness is partially due to MSG but not sure what the store’s official stance on that is, so I will not suggest that it is true. Mostly, I am there for dinner but I had the lunch special before and it was a good blend of smaller portions of food to try out, a good deal. The only qualm I have about this place is that the store is fairly small and parking is horrible so you are screwed if you have a large party on a weekend with no prior reservation.

Welcome to the niche of Korean Chinese food, the delicious byproduct of ethnic Chinese and native Koreans dwelling shoulder-to-shoulder in similar geographic regions. Northern Chinese flavors intermingled with local Korean ingredients(don’t be impressed. That was all Wikipedia, right there) to form a beautiful amalgamation that can now be found in at least a dozen restaurants along Northern Boulevard. This restaurant is named after the two mainstay dishes of this culinary domain — jajang myun noodles(noodles in black bean sauce) and champpong(noodles in a spicy seafood chop suey soup). In the past, you could only get one or the other; this place is one of many that are now smartening up to folks that come in with dual cravings by providing split bowls that can serve half portions of both. The traditional black bean noodles here are decent, though definitely not the best. My dining guests pronounced them, «just okay», though they’re a lot less oilier than other places and therefore taste a little healthier(which might have been the reason for the indifference). The jjajang sauce here is extremely heavy-handed with the onions, which may be a turn off for some. Mind yourself if you’re planning on some postprandial lip action. For those who want it, whole wheat noodles are also available here for an extra dollar. We also ordered a mapo tofu lunch special(which comes with rice and some chop suey broth) and chicken fried rice. The mapo tofu was utterly forgettable, with a sauce that veered unpleasantly on the sweeter side with a disturbing neon orange sheen. The chicken fried rice was just all right, though my sister commented on the grayish hue of the chicken(food colors seem to be an issue here). We also ordered rah jo gi(also pronounced«nah jo gi») for the table, as we do at every Korean Chinese joint. It is a platter of fried chicken pieces that have been covered with a thick, spicy sauce and tossed with some vegetables. This was one of the best things we ordered, as it was delivered to our table freshly crisp and just spicy enough. Bear in mind that this is something that should be devoured shortly after it arrives because, if left alone, the viscous sauce will soften the chicken batter and turn it into something gummy and not so appealing. The service here was just okay. If you call them over for specific requests, like ice water or more banchan(the free side dishes that come with your meal), they’ll respond agreeably and bring you what you need. But don’t expect them to act of their own accord. Our water glasses were empty for most of the meal and I gave up asking for it after the fourth time… and this was while the restaurant was half empty. At some point, I tried the subtler route and rattled my cup of ice when our server walked by. He even made eye contact with me and glanced at my empty cup, but did nothing. For most of our meal, the four waiters in the room would line up at the front of the restaurant and stare off into space unless bringing food to a table or called over. Toward the end of our meal, I found a hair swimming in one of our dishes of nearly finished food. I’m not one to make a huge fuss about these things but my mom felt it should be pointed out to our waiter. He saw it and apologized, then half-scolded us for not telling him earlier«because then we could have gotten a new one». When I pointed out that we found it after we’d all eaten, he offered a shrugging apology, dropped the check on the table, and then walked away. Even as someone who doesn’t make an enormous deal of these things, I thought that was pretty poorly handled. Our meal here today was unspectacular, and there’s certainly better Korean Chinese food to be had elsewhere. However, I should mention that other tables seemed to be taking advantage of the set menu, which allows you to get a large bento-style meal that comes with several items(dumplings, salad, noodles, etc.). Ordering from that portion of the menu seems like a fair deal considering the volume of food that comes out and would be especially recommended if you want to try a wider variety of offerings here. Also note: Street parking can be tricky in this area, so head to the rear of the restaurant, where there is a small but free private lot.

I came here after reviewing fellow Unilocaler«Lorraine D’s» review. The food is really good and prices are fairly reasonable for the amount of food that is presented to you. I did notice the English was limited on the wait staff, but pointing at the menu item always works well. We ordered the following Korean delicacies: * Jam Ja Myun — which is served in a bowl that is separated by a partition creating 2 omlette shaped pockets. one side was filled with a delicious savory black bean noodles and the other pocket spicy seafood noodle soup. * Chicken fried rice — Moist and delicious * Kan Poon Gi — Boneless fried chicken pieces, served with garlic pepper sauce. You can ask for the sauce to be already mixed in or served separately. * Samsun Jam Pong — Spicy noodle with seafood — The bowl came with a huge octopus sitting on top of the bowl. The broth was delicious and the staff immediately cut the octopus down to bite size pieces which I might add was very tender. The BanChan’s were a bit of a disappointment in terms of variety, only 3 varieties of banchan’s were served. Kim chi, danmuji and onions, but I never judge a Korean restaurant too harshly for lack of banchans since they are complimentary side dishes. At the end of your meal, they serve everyone a small bottle of yogurt milk, cold and refreshing to cleanse the palette. Overall the restaurant is solid! Like I said earlier reasonably priced for the amount of food they serve you. I did notice all the postings on the wall were written in Korean, I guess I could have asked the staff«What does that say?» It would have been nice if they could have posted another version in English next to it. The staff could have smiled and been a little bit more cordial. I mean c’mon guys, you are in the food service industry. Customers like myself feel more welcomed as your guest when you do. You also get better tips with a simple smile, crack a smile, it won’t hurt. I definitely would come back because the food is quite good, I just hope the overall service improves in my next visit, this way I can bump up the review with an extra star. Updated 04/30/2015 — 4 stars now, my Last visit the staff was more professional and attentive. I hope this trend continues.

You know a place is legit when you walk into a crowded restaurant and see that all the customers are Korean. We ordered the gochu jjambbong and the jjajangmyun due to the name of this place since I am not too familiar with Korean food. I don’t care too much for the jjajangmyun as I found it to have too much onions for my taste and is just blah overall. The gochu jjambbong was the definite winner with its deliciously spicy seafood broth with a generous serving of seafood. I did find the noodles to both noodle soups to be overcooked and I would’ve preferred it to be a little more al dente. I noticed many tables had the fried pork(tang soo yook) and japchae which looked super good, however it was just the two of us so we did not want to over order. Perhaps next time… As per my tip below in case you missed it: «The name of this place in English on the outside awning is actually ‘Korean Noodle House’ so if you’re non-Korean and driving around looking for ‘You Jjajang, Me Champpong’ good luck with that! Plus street address is actually 210 – 09 Northern Boulevard.»
