Unilocal reviews let me down! I was in Fredericksburg for the day and was at the Sheetz next door when I looked up the reviews for Shane’s and decided to pick up dinner. I ordered a full rack of ribs and a pound of bbq pork. It pork came with four hamburger buns and the whole rack of ribs came with two pieces of Texas toast. Bottom line, the ribs were so dry and hard they were barely edible. We did get a sampling of all the sauces which helped. The pulled pork was dry and flavorless. No smoke flavor at all. I was hoping this would be a great place to stop by in the way back from the beach. Disappointed!

I have made a lot of poor choices in my life: declining to sign«The Beatles» when I was president of Decca, leading the Donner party through that«shortcut», letting that damned wooden horse behind the walls, and going in against a Sicilian when death is on the line(one of the classic blunders). However, thinking I could get passably good ribs and chicken from a «barbecue-meets-fast-food» joint just Donald Trumps them all. Here’s the recipe* for the flavors at Shame’s: take one bottle of high-fructose corn syrup, add a cup and a half of high-fructose corn syrup blended with two tablespoons of high-fructose corn syrup, and stir in two cups of pepper, a teaspoon of ketchup, and 12 ounces of hatred. Add high-fructose corn syrup, to taste. * May not be actual recipe. Chicken was horrible, the ribs were cooked OK, but tasted like see above, the fries were atrocious, the Texas toast was soggy and flavorless… the chicken tenders were the only thing that was worth eating. If you are labeling yourself a «rib shack», nuggets shouldn’t be the best thing you have. I gotta’ start making better choices; perhaps I’ll get involved in a land war in Asia…

So this is a little hole in the wall. Basically Shabe’s Rib Shack is a fast food joint for BBQ is the best way to describe it. There is a drive-thru as well if you don’t want to get out of the car and want to get BBQ to go! Otherwise you order at a counter and they bring it to your table when it comes out. There are no waiters. The portions are huge. Their baked potato is one of the largest I have ever seen. It was so ig I had to question if it was one potato or four! The food overall was decent and my kids loved it. Not a big fan of the ambience as there really is none… but if you are looking for a quick BBQ stop then this is your place!

This place is great. Food is super tasty. Staffs are friendly. They know how to cook good BBQ. You don’t have to drive all the way outside Fredericksburg. We tried different place but nothing any better than here. Can’t wait to go there.

My son and I wanted BBQ on a Saturday night and the first place the hotel desk woman told us about was PACKED — an hour wait… as it was already 8:15 we decided to go for choice #2. Had we known it was a chain we would have tried another place, but by the one we got there it was already past 8:30. Both of us had the two meat platter. I had 4 ribs and the BBQ chicken(I should have gotten the ¼ chicken instead) and the boy had 6 wings and pulled pork. For sides we ordered cole slaw, baked beans, mac and cheese and green beans. The ribs were good, not great and a little fatty– they came with sauce on them which always makes me wonder what they are hiding. I’d rather taste them THEN add a little sauce to my own taste. BBQ chicken was just ok-…don’t know what I was expecting, but it didn’t blow my doors off — in fact I didn’t finish it and I was mad at myself for not getting the ¼ chicken. The boy thought the wings were VERY good… and he really liked the pulled pork too. I’d say the best thing we got was the pulled pork, but had I taken more than a taste I might have lost a finger or two While the key to a good BBQ meal is always going to be the meat, the sides complete the meal and can make or break the meal. In this case, the sides don’t get great marks. The Mac and cheese was way overdone and thick with cheese… might have been better if hotter, but I’m a pretty good judge of mush and this was mush. Green beans needed a little salt but otherwise ok, but didn’t seem fresh… tasted canned. The Coke slaw was pretty good, but if you’re a BBQ place with bad cole slaw you simply can’t stay in business. My beans were pretty tasty and not too sweet, but ever so slightly underdone. I will say that the place was VERY clean and the staff were all very friendly. Plenty of parking here and it seemed that, even late, they had regulars coming in, but it was just OK for me. Good in a pinch, not going to be my first choice the next time I’m in town.

Applebee’s of BBQ and that might be generous. Bad ribs, really bad chicken, and they don’t even have beef on the menu. Lesson learned.

Came all the way from Indiana. I Googled where to eat and it said they had really good ribs for a chain. I was very disappointed in the quality of my pulled pork, very dry and hard in some parts. At first they screwed our order up and then literally 2 minutes later were out with the right order. It must of been sitting in the kitchen in some sort of container for a while. Disappointed that this is where I got to experience Georgia famous bbq

I love Shane’s. My boss introduced me to the place up in Maryland and I have been a fan since. The Fredericksburg location is convenient to the highway for travelers and is nice and quick. Ironically my favorite is the chicken tenders(with a variety of sauces and fries, you can get 10 for 6.99). The rest of the food is really good as well, and I often recommend this place to people who cannot figure out what to eat(this would be a good description of my family). I very rarely visit Fredericksburg and not make a quick stop at Shane’s. This place even got the seal of approval from my older brother, who is the definition of a picky eater.

I thought this place was going to be a sit down restaurant, but it is a fast food bbq place. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good our pulled pork bbq sandwiches were. Great sauce and are made with huge Texas toast. The 4 sauces on the table are good, but each one was kindof like the other and a little watery in texture. Overall, very satisfying meal if you’re craving BBQ and you don’t have to tip anyone!

Five of us sat down to dine in for our first visit. We ordered the samples and different side to taste and share. The barbecue ribs and pulled pork was our favorites but the chicken and chicken tenders was very good too. We tried the stuffed potatoe that is seasonal and it was so big and was enough for all five of us to share. The peach cobbler taste like homemade pie. The peach ice tea was very good. The Texas toast was okay. We liked it toasted a little darker. We didn’t try the brownies this time. Prices were good. We ordered a slab to go for dinner tomorrow. The meat was so tender a fell off the bones. We highly recommend this place to eat. We hope to travel there again to eat soon.

absolutely yummy food! Everything we have tried, chopped chicken, ½ chicken, ribs, Pork sandwich, cole slaw, baked beans, loaded baked potato is great. The place is clean and delicious and we like that a lot of the food is gluten free.

First time at a «fast casual» bbq place! It appeared to be a chain but it was still very delicious and a cool spot! Good variety of choices and lots of food. Had the«pick 2 meats» with ribs and bbq chicken. Ribs were delicious and tender. Chicken was also very good. Mac and cheese and fries also tasty. Only thing keeping me from 5 stars was the sauces at the table, decent but not great. Good spot and exactly the pace of meal we were looking for that night.

I was hungry for BBQ again. I checked this area’s BBQ on Unilocal.No.1 was close earlier because of Father’s Day. So I came this No.2BBQ. Tasty Baby back rib is simply good. I didn’t need to use any sauce on it. Tender and juicy. I ate ½lb with ease. Potato Salad is pretty good too. I got this for free by their mistake. Lucky! Not too much mayo. Celery, mustard, etc… BBQ sauce is good too. Original, spicy, hot, honey, mustard. Price Cheap! I spent about $ 20 for Father’s Day special. ½lb baby back rib, chopped pork, coleslaw, beans, green bean, French fry, potato salad, 1 Texas toast, 4 bans. This is for 4. I went there with my husband and got doggy bags of course. You can eat at $ 5 – 15. Minus French fry was luke warm. I had to wait for longer than 10mnts. Parking lot Free. Everywhere around the restaurant. Staff Friendly and really nice.

Didn’t realize it was a chain. We don’t typically eat at chain restaurants but we were craving some serious BBQ. They were offering a Father’s Day special of a half rack of ribs, 1lb of pulled pork or chicken, 4 sides, and rolls for $ 20.00. Tough to beat that! The ribs were simple and delicious. I hate when places smother their ribs with a gallon of sauce… The pulled pork was kind of bland but cooked perfectly so although this dish relied on flavor from the various sauces, it was pretty good. I’m actually going to use the leftovers to make carnitas tomorrow! Sides were pretty ho-hum with the exception of the potato salad(which tasted just like my grandmother’s recipe-yum!) All in all a great deal for some pretty good BBQ.

John R.‘s says it best«Real BBQ meets fast food.» If you’ve never had BBQ, then Shane’s Rib Shack is a respectable introduction. Shane’s set the base line for our 2015BBQ Hop(across 5 state lines) and it was a solid start. Enjoyable overall but nothing really to write home about. Everything was ” … enough.” Ribs? Moist and tender enough. Slaw? Balanced enough. Baked beans? A little bit on the sweet side but good enough. Pulled Pork? Flavorful enough. It won’t hold up in a comparison test but, on average, this Georgia-based BBQ franchise will hold it’s own. If it’s still around, I strongly recommend the Shack Potato. It’s a massive goulash of starch, cheese, and meat. For $ 6.99, it’s an entire meal by itself. Nothing mind-blowing but — oh — so satisfying. BBQ Hop 2015 #1 [March 2015]

I have never been let down by a Unilocal rating, but there is always a first for everything. Thought for sure this place was going to be good because of the reviews. I ordered the«Big Daddy» sandwich, but on a bun, and asked her what a good side was. The lady suggested mac n cheese, so that’s what I ordered. My husband also ordered the«Big Daddy» on the Texas Toast that they serve it on and french fries. Fries were bland, mac n cheese was mush with zero seasoning, and the sandwiches were«meh». The Texas Toast wasn’t even toasted. Just thick bread soggy from butter. The pulled pork itself was pretty fatty. I kept getting bites of fat chunks. The original sauce was way too sweet.

Real BBQ meets fast food? Is that possible? It seems they do a pretty good job of making that happen here. There is a smoker /grill out front and they seem to actually use it. I had the Big Dad sandwich and it certainly was a meal for me without anything else on the side. Nice to have a selection of sauces available. They could be thicker for my taste but honestly I ended up eating, and enjoying, most of the sandwich without adding anything to it. If you are coming off the highway and looking for this place there is a lot going on in the area. It is right near TGI Fridays which might be easy to spot from the road.
