Alan and Linda are the proprietors, and they are among the most gracious and wonderful people I know. A year ago I went to their old location(craving their OUTSTANDING hot dogs… all beef, I think, but whatever they are, they are perfectly meaty and delicious) and was very disappointed to see that they had apparently retired and closed. :-( Today I got off the VRE, decided to walk downtown, and saw that they had only just moved locations!!! Although they had closed for the day, Linda and Alan recognized me, opened the locked door, and Alan gave me a complimentary side of their red bliss potato salad that I’ve always loved! For the hot dogs and deli meat to be so dang good and the sandwiches so creative, and for them to be so incredibly welcoming, I’ve got to give them the same 5 stars that they earned from me at their previous location! PLEASE try the dogs, as I remember from about two years ago that they tried a lot of suppliers before settling on just the right one, and it was soooo worth it.

The people/help were very friendly and courteous, the service was quick, my «Stonewall» sub was ready before I filled my drink at the soda fountain. My only«major“disappointment was that the sub was mostly bread, not much meat, and the bread was bland white bread, dry, devoid of flavor, like a McDonalds hamburger bun(which I now avoid). I expected much better quality from an Old Town type Deli. Subway is much better! I will not be back. Too bad, the people working there deserve better.

I only have three letters… OMG! My kids and I are in love and have a goal to try every sandwich on the menu! We haven’t found a bad one yet! This place is a must!

I’m not usually a meat eater, but the corned beef and pastrami sandwiches are favorite indulgences. In the summer, A/C would be nice.

Honestly speaking, I only stopped by The Virginia Deli because there was a cut-out poster of George Washington, holding a sign that said ‘George at here.’ AHAHAHA Their menu is pretty extensive, offering grilled and deli sandwiches, create-your-own sammies, kids meals, as well as dogs(Bart’s Dogs). The grilled sandwiches come in whole or half sizes, but the others are just a standard whole size. I tried their famous Rebel Reuben(generous amount of corned beef with Swiss cheese on rye, sauerkraut, and a Russian dressing, grilled; I couldn’t really taste any of the kraut and the Russian dressing, so more should be requested the next time around); a Grant(BLT with mayo on white toast; the shredded lettuce was a little wilted and slightly browned); an egg salad sandwich(simple egg salad on white bread); and, a Spicy Half-Smoke(hickory-smoked, all beef; this was my favorite out of them all, as the half-smoke was savory and spicy, and great with the chopped red onions on top(you can also request mustard, relish, and ketchup)). The sandwiches come with an original Lay’s potato chips, but we were missing the pickle spears for each T___T Service was super friendly, and there were plenty of seats available to dine-in. +Spicy Half-Smoke dog with red onions +missing ingredients T___T +parking along William St/Caroline St

It’s in the heart of downtown Fred and doesn’t look like anything special from the outside. We got the grilled chicken sandwich on a kaiser roll with chips and their special cranberry sage mayo. That mayo gave me life! I don’t think the chicken was freshly cooked because it was ready in five minutes, but the sandwich was great and I would come back for the cranberry sage mayo alone!

While you’re in Fredericksburg’s historic downtown, this a nice place to get a cheap bite to eat in a pleasant atmosphere. I discovered the Virginia Deli last Sunday, and had a great half-smoke(a type of spicy sausage that’s a Washington-area delicacy).

Ate here for lunch today. I ordered the Reuben, husband ordered the James Monroe and my one year old had the kids grilled cheese. All sandwiches came with a drink and regular lay potato chips. Our lunch cost $ 28. I wish for the price, we could have picked what kind of chips we could get. My Reuben was really good. And my son ate his entire grilled cheese. We will be back.

Good little deli. I love their sandwiches. I always get the same thing. I usually go once a week for a tuna melt, veggie wrap or just some cookies. Sandwiches come with chips and a pickle which the sandwich itself is usually enough for me. The food has always been good and the people working there are nice.

The Virginia Deli is a quaint sandwich shop with regular specials in downtown Fredericksburg. When I came, my mother was visiting and ordered a butternut squash soup(special). The soup was a bit thick, but still enjoyable on a cold autumn day. I had the Rappahannock, «pastrami and Swiss on rye with slaw and Russian dressing». The sandwich held together well and all components were well balanced. I’m not a huge sandwich fan, but I could eat hear regularly and be perfectly happy. For $ 8 I got chips with my sandwich, so the price point was spot on. Drinks were fountain-style which is always a plus on days when you’ve been walking downtown. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone and would probably return.

I think this is one of the places I miss going to since moving away. The Virginia deli is absolutely fantastic. The food quality here far surpasses what you would find at Subway or Quiznos. The owners are also some of the most pleasant people I have met in the service industry. They really know what it takes to run a successful restaurant and to keep their customers coming back!

Great little sandwich shop! We had the Thomas Jefferson and Mosby’s Mountain, both of which were delish. Hubby also had soup, which he loved. Quick, easy little place with reasonable prices. Only negative was that they were out of the ingredients for my first two choices, but we did go a little late for lunch. We’ll be back!

I spotted this place because they have a truck with a sign in the back advertising their deli which resides down the street from the truck. We ordered the #2(Roast Beef, Cheddar, Horseradish sauce on a Kaiser Roll) and a #7(Italian meats, Provolone, Banana Peppers, Tomato, Vinaigrette). Both sandwiches were good, but a little skimpy on ingredients — I would have liked more cheese and meat. I might have been able to give Virginia Deli a 4-star rating if their employees were friendlier. We encountered three people that worked there and NONE of them smiled, said hello or anything at all other than what was necessary to take our order.

We spotted the Virginia Deli while driving through town and stopped there for a quick lunch. It is located in a cute historic looking brick house. I had a bacon, lettuce and tomato hotdog and my friend had a pulled pork sandwich. Both were great. Order up front, seat yourself, no fuss, cheap and right on the business route through town.

This place is great. I’ve had the club and the rueben and each were flavorful and filling. No frills or froo froo about it. Great sandwiches at a great price.

I’m almost hesitant to call attention to this place. It has been my quick, quiet and fast go to for lunch for a couple of years now. The sandwiches are great; prepared quickly and with quality meats. There is nothing fancy about The Virginia Deli. Styrofoam cups or bottled drinks from the case. Bags of chips. Sometimes a pretty good potato salad. Needless to say no frills, just fantastic sandwiches. My favorites are the: «Hugh Mercer» a roast beef and horseradish delight; «JR’s Revenge» liverwurst and bacon!; and the«General J.E.B.» pastrami on rye. Go there.
