Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Water Park

LOVE this park, and I miss the slides and the lazy river. This park is HUGE.

This place is a lot of fun! We came on a Friday and it wasn’t that crowded. There were barely any waits on the lines and the park was clean. Was a bit disappointed the new Massiv ride was not open yet, but took advantage of all the other tall slides they had to offer.
The lockers are very expensive, so be prepared to drop $ 8 on a 12×12 teeny tiny locker. Our bag wouldn’t fit, so we had to pay $ 25 for a larger locker. Yes you read it right, $ 25 for a locker rental!
Also, the food is very pricey and not good at all. $ 30 for 4 slices of terribly gross pizza and an $ 8 drink (re-​fillable). Bring your own lunch or snacks if you have time to pack/​plan.
The lazy river was a blast! It has a wave machine so it pushes you much faster than the generic lazy river designs most parks have. We had a blast on it and went around a few times.
Lastly, you have to try the tallest slide– the white one. It’s so tall and fast you can’t even scream. Expect a water enema though and a massive bathing suit wedgie.

This was our first visit to Schlitterbahn Galveston. It was closed Friday and most of Saturday due to Thunderstorms and flooding. We got in on Sunday June 5^th. It was America Hero’s week so my husband being a Veteran got in free of charge. Very cool! This is a family friendly water park. Lot’s of kids stuff. Lot’s of kids period. Not having kids, we did the lazy river which is great and has numerous openings and ways to get out. They have a swim up bar but we didn’t hang out long enough to do. I purchased the splash cash wrist band so you don’t have to carry around your credit card. This is convenient, although for some reason had an issue cashing out and it took over 20 minutes and 3 different guest services and a supervisor to handle it. It was not very busy and can’t imagine if this comes up again that there would be a mile long of not so happy guests. Hope they resolve for future guests. The new huge Megga roller coaster is not open yet. So if you are expecting to go on it, call first.

There is an awesome promotion they do during memorial week that allows military free admission to the park. I called the day before we were going because I knew it was going to rain the day we planned our visit, guest services informed me the park would be opened rain or shine just rides would close if lightening is present. The next morning got all packed up to go, drive an hour to the park and it is closed! Next day I call to try and get a rain check for the military promotion and supervisor informs me that I can just come to the park today because the promotion is still going on, unfortunately I had yesterday off of work (the day I drive an hour to be there) not today, she informs me there is no rain checks and normally they are always opened but the general manager closed yesterday. Which was actually a wonderful sunny day after 12pm. I am just really upset about driving the hour there and then another back and I called to make sure they were going to be opened and now won’t even give a rain check for the promotion.

we went to the park on Friday May 21^st. We love it! We go there every summer. The improvements for this summer 2016 were very good. The park has improved its organization and easiness to get onto the rides. The young workers do an excellent job. However, we believe there is a problem regarding people taking out and holding the tubes even outside the attractions. This make it difficult for other people to find tubes. Please do not allow people to take out the tubes from the attractions, including the river. Success for this summer. We recommend a day of fun at schlitterbahn.

This place used to be so much fun, but they are slowly regulating the fun out of the place. For example, the Torrent River (lazy river with wave machine) used to be a torrent and a blast. They should now change the name to Lame River. A life guard told me that because of an «incident» the wave machine has been turned way down. The result is very small waves and lackluster fun. It would be like Six Flags running one of their roller coasters at ½ speed — no fun.

I so wish I could give this dump less than one star. We spent about 15 minutes there before we left. It was incredibly overcrowded, dirty and a MESS. Please do not waste your time and money. Absolutely awful.

This was my first time to this park so I didn’t know what to expect. In the end, it exceeded my expectations. My two boys loved it. The oldest went on every slide in the park. The youngest was tall enough, but a few of the slides were a little too intimidating, yet he still went on some very fast slides. The double tube rides were their favorite.
We came on a Tuesday during the summer and arrived when they opened. We bought tickets online, but still had to wait in line to get wristbands for the park. We also bought splash cash so we didn’t have to carry money around. I locked my valuables in a locker, but left our cooler and towels on a table all day and never worried about them. It’s great that they let you bring food and drink into the park. The park gets more and more crowded as the day goes on, so come early and you can get through rides quicker.
The life guards always seemed attentive and ready.
If you’ve never been to Schlitterbahn, the San Marcos park is an amazing experience, but if you’re in Galveston, definitely go here.

Had a great time here last weekend with my hubby. Our kiddos enjoyed the pools. The only drawback was that a lot of large families seemed to hoard the Tubes. They had them stacked up at their tables so that when they were not using them, no one else could. In Schlitterbahn New Braunfels they have signs and attendants that make sure that guest leave the tubes with each attraction. We ended up staying until close, after people started leaving we found abandoned tubes to use.
The best part about this parks are that they allow you to bring coolers or picnics inside the park. The food is not crazy overpriced so if you do dine there it’s still reasonable. My husband and the kiddos loved the funnel cake loaded with ice cream and the staff was really laid back and friendly. This one is open year-​round because they have closures to make it indoor. Very cool!

Always a great time. can never say it enough.
You can bring your own food and drinks in (leave the alcohol and glass at home) and you can have a great time with the family or friends.
Coming to this location I would suggest buying your tickets online, printing them, and then checking in at the building across the street from the entrance. You can get your wrist bands there and simply go to the gates.
Its a much better improvement over standing in the same line that others are buying their bands at.
Winter (they close the roof) or Summer its always a great time here

I visited the water park yesterday with a group of friends. We are all 26 to 30 year olds, just wanting to have a fun time. First of all, I did my research and noticed there was a swim up bar, which is only for adults. I had a wristband which I loaded with money so that I would not have to carry my CC with me, which I found convenient.
Okay, so here is where the mess began. The guy at that swim up bar was SO RUDE! Talk about hating your job or maybe having a bad day. But I absolutely hate that type of service, especially when you are working for tips. Anyways, he also failed to give me a yellow wrist band which would prove to everyone I was over 21 without having to drag my fiancé to the bar every time to give me my ID (which is what the rep told me would happen when I purchased alcohol the first time).
Anyways, since this kid failed to give me the wrist band, I was refused service at a little bar in the locker room area. I asked the girl nicely if there was a way she could check my previous transactions to prove that I was over 21 and that the guy never gave me the wristband, so I didnt feel it was my fault. She said «No, I cannot and whatever that person did at the pool has nothing to do with my job». So, I thought that was a very rude and bitchy thing for her to say since I was OBVIOUSLY not at fault. Luckily, my fiancé was heading towards me, so I met him halfway and went to show my ID to that rude girl. She knew better than to ask if I wanted to add a tip.
Schilitterbahn needs to seriously make these A-​HOLES take some customer service classes. Obviously we cannot wear makeup at a waterpark to make us look our age, or carry our ID with us all the time since our bikinis do not have pockets. Anyways, all I can say about these «bartenders» is that they are rude and snotty people.
Rides: Long lines, but they are fun! I got a nice tan, which is all I truly wanted.
I will probably not be back until I have kids one day. More than likely we will go to the New Braunfels park instead of Galveston.

1. Service — The only employees I’ve dealt with, were the people taking photos, printing photos, the person that checks your bags and wristbands, and the person you buy the ticket from. Everyone seems nice.
2. Price — About $ 50 a person if you buy your tickets online, and $ 53 if you buy at the gate. Of course, it’s better to pre-​purchase them online as it adds up if you buy group tickets.
3. Ambiance — The place is nice, it’s what summer is all about. The moment you step into the place, you just want to jump right into the water. What I really like about this place is that it’s covered in certain areas. I was told that they are open in the winter too. They have a portion that are outdoors and some that are enclosed during the winter times. It’s not as big as the New Braunfels location, but it will suffice. The one up there has like about 4 water parks, whereas this location only has one.
4. Fun — It’s a whole lot fun, love their lazy river. In the absence of Six Flag Waterworld in Houston, good thing we have Schlitterbahn to compenstate for our water park needs. If you’re ever in Galveston and have the urge to be in the water, and the news report that there is high bacteria levels in the ocean, just come here.
5. Cleanliness — Overall pretty clean. The trash cans are pretty full sometimes, and the smell of trash in certain areas is not that nice.

We aren’t sure if the lackluster feelings my family had on vacation in Galveston, or if the place just sucked.
We have been to New Braunfels Schlitterbahn (great) and Padre (even better). So we couldn’t wait.
I wish we spent more time at Pleasure Pier. The staff was rude. The location is shoddy. The slides seem disconnected to the rest of the park. The crowd was awful. Even the torrent river was completely different here… and that wasn’t good.
Let’s put it this way: the best part was that lines moved fast. It’s like Schlitterbahn put all their money in the two aforementioned locations, and went cheap here.
If you are in Galveston, stick to the beach and hit Gaido’s for food.

The water park was pretty awesome. Came down for a friends birthday and we rode so many rides and was in the lazy river (2x). We were there for over 4 hours. Their foods are PRICEY but you are able to bring in your own cooler and cannot really have items they sell (we did not being in a cooler but that seem to be the sentiment when they were looking through others items). Great time. The entrance fee was about $ 61 & I believe $ 10 less on weekdays. You can also purchase maybe a cheaper one online.

This water theme park was alright. I went to better ones back in Cali, but I guess it’s Texas. This will have to do. They need more variety of rides. Everything was basically the same, just a bit taller than each rides. I had fun though, just wished they have better food options and rides.

Came down from New Orleans to hang with some pals for the weekend and here was one of our weekend destinations. I’ve been to the Schlitterbahn near San Antonio, well over 15 years ago; I remember it being the biggest, best water park I’ve ever been to. If my memory serves me correcrly, the park was divided into three sections, which you had to take a bus to get between each of them. It was also the first time I’ve ever seen a swim — up bar, my mind was blown!
This location isn’t as much of a spectacle as the other one, but it’s a great place for a good time, for sure. Admission was about fifty bucks or so for a day pass. They offer lockers so don’t worry about having to haul stuff around. One other cool thing they have is a special wrist band that you can load money onto and scan it throughout the park for purchases, so no need to lug around a wallet or cash!
We got there on a Sunday as the park opened and was able to hit all the slides without long lines. However, once 2 o’clock hit, it seemed everyone in Galveston had the same idea of coming here. Good thing by then, we had gotten most of our thrills and resorted to finishing out our day on the lazy river.
Coolers are allowed, so feel free to load up on sandwiches, snacks and drinks, but no alcohol allowed. They’re cool with you bringing a GoPro on slides so for those of you with one, you should bring it along for some cool shots! Don’t forget your low-​light setting for those enclosed slides, i got some pretty good footage from it.
I always wear water shoes anytime I’m at a pool or water park, i suggest you do the same. Crazy bacteria is found at water parks so take precaution. Also, the ground on parts of the lazy river are super slippery. Even with water shoes, it can be difficult to gain your balance.
All in all, it’s a great park. Definitely a great place to hang with friends for the weekend!

Had a great time here when we took our Youth Group. They have 3 connected rivers (a wave pool river, a lazy river, and a river with Rapids) that connect to the entire park, so you can just ride the them instead of burning your feet on the hot ground.
They have some pretty cool slides as well. My favorite was the blue one where you have to ride in tube.
Speaking of tubes, they have plenty of tubes to go around and you don’t have to pay for them. That’s a great thing!!!
My only complaint is the concrete it was hot! Where as some parks have a type of ground that doesn’t absorb the heat.
Great Job Schlitterbahn I will be back!

We rented a cabana and it was well worth it! We had two servers who were very friendly. I would recommend going during the week like we did. There was no lines at all! The ground gets really hot so I would wear swim shoes!

The original Schlitterbahn is one of my favorite places on earth, so when I took a solo trip to Houston last summer Schlitterbahn was definitely on my list of things to do. OK — it was really the number one priority of things to do.
I went on Friday in the early summer months. I bought my ticket online in advance and arrived right at the time of opening in hopes that I could zoom in and get right to the rides. Bonus, you save a few bucks by buying ahead too — I’m assuming the discount is encouragement from the company, so that they can employ less people at the ticket stations.
When I arrived, there were hoards of people standing around the ticket booths that were just opening and processing folks. It was a disorganized mess. I thought to myself, «Thank goodness I bought my ticket online in advance so I could avoid this mess.» I passed the ticket counters and took my ticket up to the people guarding the entrance. At which point I was directed to get in line for tickets. I explained I already had a ticket. And they said I needed to wait in the ticket line… in order to get a wristband.
That’s right, folks. Everyone has to wait in the ticket line even if you already have a ticket. Who in the hell came up with this?! That is completely backwards. Besides the obvious idiocracy of having to wait for a ticket when you already have one, there is no queuing for the ticket booths. It’s a complete free-​for-​all. The lines wound around several times with no ropes or other separation between them. Big groups had multiple people standing in different lines, causing the lines to be unnecessarily longer. Then, when a new booth opens there’s a rush to it causing even more confusion. Finally, there are a ton of kids anxious, sad, annoyed, and full of energy waiting to get inside. I waited (very impatiently) nearly 40 MINUTES to get my damn wristband. I felt so bad for those kids whose parents got them there and they had to start the day with such a sour experience. This madness really put a bad taste in my mouth.
Once inside I secured a locker for myself. I was a little bummed they did not offer towel rentals, since I was an out of town guest. I had to buy a cheap towel in the Galveston area and got rid of it before my flight back home since I didn’t have room in my bag to pack a towel either way.
As far as rides: most but not all rides were open. I was able to tackle most rides pretty quickly. I liked that they opened some rides in the morning and then would close that ride and redirect staff to open a different ride in the afternoon. My favorite ride was one you could offshoot from the lazy river area. It had a conveyor belt that took you uphill and then down through some rapids on your own innertube, and there was a way you could basically ride this attraction on loop without ever getting out of the water. I could have just sat on this ride all day, but unfortunately, one of the sections was closed so you had to hop out at a portion with a strong current and make your way out of the water at a beach area. That was challenging for many folks.
I also got to try the attraction where you can try your hand at surfing. Usually the lines for this attraction at other parks is long and there’s lots of experts that make it intimidating if you’re a beginner. The line was only 3 or 4 people long so I gave it a try. The lifeguard’s instruction was excellent and I didn’t wipe out immediately; very fun to try.
Food was actually quite good. I had some pizza for lunch and it was made fresh. The pizza lounge is perched above the surfing attraction so you can watch folks as you eat. I had some adult beverages at the park too. There was a swim-​up bar but it was located in the heated pool, which makes no sense for the Texas heat. They don’t make drinks with real liquor so the taste of drinks is a little off. I wish I had stuck with beer for the entire day.
This park is really small compared to the one right outside of San Antonio. I’m glad I visited it but overall it wasn’t an acceptable substitute for the larger park. And the ticket situation really really needs to get worked out.

Schlitterbahn Glaveston exceeded my expectations! The park was clean, lines were fast, and there was a variety of relaxing attractions and more exciting, fast water slides. I had a really great time, though I wish it didn’t cost $ 50 for a day.
The lazy river is super fun, especially when the waves roll through! I’ve never been on a «lazy» river that was actually like a wave pool and it was cool. :) I also really liked the two big slides with the three– or four-​person tubes; its fun to go on them with a lot of friends. And though I’m claustrophobic and don’t usually like tube slides, their tube slides were actually decently lit and I enjoyed them for once!
I have two main complaints about the day that I spent there. First, when my group tried to buy lunch around one o’clock in the afternoon, we were told that they park was out of food and anything we ordered would be delayed for an hour! This was in early May on a Saturday, so definitely not the peak of crowd season. They should have done a better job at being prepared to feed the Saturday crowd, especially when I’m sure they get many more visitors on a day in July or August.
Secondly, at the top of one of the Loopey Luge and Guadaloopey slides, I saw a kid in front of us (maybe twelve or thirteen years old) getting into his tube and waiting at the top of the slide. These slides have lights next to them that are supposed to light up green when the next person can go and then light up red when someone is in the slide. The light on this kid’s slide was red, but the park attendant at the top was waving him to go anyways. I could tell he was hesitating to go when there was a red light, but the guy just kept waving him on. If the light wasn’t working they should just turn it off so that no one feels unsafe when a park attendant tells them to proceed through a red light. I felt pretty sorry for the kid as he clearly didn’t want to go.
Other than these two things, I had a great experience and applaud Schlitterbahn for maintaining a clean and efficient water park — seems like a pretty difficult thing to do and they do it right!
