We spent the weekend at Moody Gardens with the kids and grandson. We were very excited about dining here after reading the great reviews! The fact that the restaurant was completely booked turned out to be a blessing in disguise when the hostess politely invited us to enjoy the lounge. They had almost a full menu availability in the lounge and our server, Michelle, was a real joy and very attentive! The lounge entertainer, Steve, was incredible! We enjoyed ourselves so much the first night, we went back the second night as well! If possible, it was even better the second night. Michelle waited on us again, we had a party of 7 and she was on the spot! We requested an audience with the restaurant manager, Kelly to let him know how pleased we were. He came right over and was as friendly as everyone else we encountered here! We were having so much fun that we stayed well past closing, unintentionally, and no one even told us! Steve continued to entertain us and Michelle kept serving us without fail. This has been a fantastic experience for my family and we will return and highly recommend this restaurant and the superb staff to everyone! I almost forgot to address the food, we all had the filet with angle hair Alfredo, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. My wife also had the lobster. The food was as outstanding as the staff! Thank you Steve, Michelle and Kelly for starting out our 2016 in a wonderful fashion!

I have always given this restaurant an excellent review however our experience this past weekend was not close to worthy of that. I made reservations and truthfully the moment we approached the host stand we were greeted with an attitude. Generally my husband wears dress slacks however with the temperatures in the 100’s he wore a dress shirt and designer dress shorts, we not able to even get our last name out as the host raised his nose at us and went on to cite their dress code and point us to the bar area to a table. So we accepted the fact that in error my husband did not have on slacks, I do think they could have been more gracious in communicating, but apparently the host is more important than their clients? So he pointed us to a table, then the bar manager asked us why we were sitting at this table, we explained what had happened and the host sat us there. Apparently they had that table reserved for someone else, so their internal struggle played out on us. After 15 minutes the waitress came and took our drink order, we ordered a $ 100 bottle of wine and it took another 10 minutes to receive, during this time there is no water on the table, bread or menus! Once the wine arrives we asked for water, bread and menus, another 10 minutes go by. We ordered and it was not until our soup and salad came that bread that we requested much earlier showed up. We watched tables around us being served and checked on. None of that they did not even light the candle on our table. We really should have got up and left as this is not an inexpensive restaurant. We were patient and polite the entire time. We felt we were getting this service since their staff was put out that the host sat us there and they had to set another table for another guest with reservations. Not our fault, mind you we also had reservations. This was a very disappointing experience, at a restaurant that we frequent. As we paid our check my husband did let the manager know we were disappointed in the service. He did offer to pick up our bottle of wine which we declined. This was not about the money it was about the poor service. The food and wine were great. I would encourage Shearn’s to counsel their staff on what makes a 4 or 5 star dining experience. If you are going to spend $ 200 -$ 300 for a party of two service is critical in demanding these prices.

Wonderful dining experience! Excellent food and service. I had the lobster and my husband had the filet. We also shared the creamed spinach as a side. The prices were high, but not for the quality. We will definitely be back soon.

We made res for 7 and asked for window table. Was our anniversary Arrived 30 min early checked in with restaurant and bought drink in the bar. At 7 we moved to restaurant and they had given our table away. What jerks. said we needed to wait 20 minutes. And to top it, the bar added manditory 17 percent for very mediocre service. We left went to rudy and pacos, was great.

I wish I could give it 5 stars and rant and rave about it like I did my last visit. I REALLY wish I could. I also wish we had our same server– Damian, because this server was TERRIBLE. It started with his introduction– extremely clunky. He was obviously nervous for some reason and his thoughts were jumbled. He kept forgetting things, then interrupting us, saying«Oh, and we also have…» For the specials, he told us pretty much NOTHING. It was along the lines of «We have steak» or «We have some ____fish» No description, NOTHING! Every time he approached the table, he was extremely awkward. One thing I didn’t understand is after his initial greet, he walked away then walked back to tell us if we wanted a soufflé for dessert, that it would take at least 20 minutes. You tell us about dessert when we just sit down? The whole night was like that. For the food; however, we started with the escargot– delicious as always. I had a bowl of lobster bisque– delicious! We moved to lamb chops for me and the filet for her. Both were just as good as last time, absolutely spectacular. But, all the while, we could not get over how bad the service was. What really got us was that an older couple sat down next to us and he was all of a sudden a good waiter. He described the specials to them in a way that my girlfriend and I looked at each other and said«Huh… I didn’t have any idea they had that.» obviously in a joking way, but it was true! He described EVERYTHING to them. We get this a lot and we figure it’s because we’re young. But, that’s not how things should be. We came to the same restaurant to spend our hard-earned money just like they did. And we dropped $ 200! Not exactly a cheap dinner. We deserve the same service. For about every one time he came to our table(not complaining, didn’t want his awkwardness there anyway) he visited their table 3 times. However, just like with us, they finally got annoyed by him because he WOULDNOTSTOPTALKING. Story after story. More awkward by the minute because he would walk away, then turn around and say something again, like as if stairway wit caught up to him and he figured out what to say. He had a bad habit of asking us questions literally RIGHTAFTER we took a bite. He was absolutely terrible the entire night. We actually opted out of dessert because we didn’t want to put up with him anymore. Again, the food is SUPERB, and it will keep us coming back. They have great scotches and a great wine list(which we partook in both). I hope to have Damian as our server again(hoping he still works there) because this server sucked. Didn’t even tell us a name. Nevertheless, the food, the ambiance, the view, etc is all spectacular and I can’t bear to bring down the rating of this restaurant because of one bad server.

Shearn’s is an upscale restaurant located on the 9th floor of Moody Gardens Hotel. It is definitely one of the nicer special occasion options on the island given the somewhat limited options. Have been here twice now and the food each time has been excellent. Being a vegetarian am always a bit concerned about the number of vegetarian options on a menu at a steakhouse, however Shearn’s has three main entrees(spinach fettucini alfredo, ravioli, and a vegetable place served with angel hair pasta), numerous sides, soups(french onion), and salads(house, goat, caesar). I got the gluten free ravioli and a goat cheese salad last night and both were delicious. My carnivore companions on both occasions enjoyed their meals thoroughly and many described it as «one of the best meals of my life!» Basket of amazing bread is served with meal with individual butters and mango sorbet is given to cleanse your palate in between courses. Numerous dessert options, however they are known specifically for their souffles. Of note though, If you want to get a soufflé, you are supposed to tell them ahead of time as it takes 20 minutes to prepare. Tried a friends soufflé and though good, definitely was not the highlight of the meal. This is not an in and out place, but rather a place you go to have a luxurious dinner with friends or your significant other. Amazing ambience with gorgeous views of Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn. During the summer time, this is a great place to watch the sunset while having a drink. Valet is complimentary if you’re eating at the restaurant. Can be on the pricier side and 17% gratuity is added on, however worth the price for the deliciousness, ambience, and great service.

We went here for the first time while staying the weekend in Galveston. I’ve been to numerous other steakhouses that were always on some sort of list or another from having top quality food, however, Shearns really does step the game up in this regard. To begin, service was excellent. For a place such as this you would expect great service but it really was top notch. The environment is fantastic, especially at night with a view of moody gardens in the background. The food… I started with the lobster bisque which was phenomenal on its own, add in a bit of dry sherry and it was just out of this world. The wife had the French onion soup, reported that although it was good it was not the best she ever had. Moving in, we had an order of grilled chicken for her and the filet for myself. The filet a as ordered medium, came out medium rare. No issue for me but maybe for others to be aware of. The steak was fabulous. the sauce for the steak was phenomenal. Everything about the main entrée was perfection in my book. At the end as mentioned previously there is a 17% service charge added to your bill. Some folks may take issue to this as this isn’t typical in American resyaurants. We found the service to be exceptional and added to the service charge. Overall, if you’re in the area… or not even in the area but willing to drive to Galveston to check this place out you will not regret it. We most recently were at vic and Anthonys and I will say, I would drive to Galveston again for a steak from shearns.

Appetizer of crab balls and grilled asparagus with crab meat was AMAZING!!! We ordered the steaks and I wasn’t impressed at all with them. Atmosphere and service was impeccable though. Because the steaks were a let down we won’t be visiting this restaurant again.

We always enjoy having a quiet elegant dinner at Shearn’s every time we come to Galveston. The wait staff are always very attentive, and they have a great wine list sure to accommodate anyone. I usually select a fish and never disappointed!

I made reservations for a good seat at 7:30 on a Thursday evening and upon arriving nobody was anywhere near the host stand and after about 5 minutes of waiting a man came up and asked if I had a reservation. Then he made my party of 2 wait for 25 minutes… We finally say down at 7:50ish… Other than the poor service I would love to enjoy the chefs special shrimp!!! Very good! The four stars eating is for the food alone and I would give the service and overall experience a 3 stars.

My family and I recently dined at Shearns’s while on the island. One word could be used to describe this restuarant… spectacular! Our server Mark was great, he was very knowledgeable and had a great personality! To start we had the Escargot, which was served in a garlic butter souse, delicious! I had the Chateaubriand for my entrée, the mushroom souse that accompanied it truly made the dish. The Grand Marnier soufflé was the specialty dessert of the evening and it truly did not disappoint! The entire family was extremely happy with the meal and I don’t think there was any argument, we will be back!

I ate here for dinner and it was delicious.(Not to mention the wonderful view, as this restaurant is located on the 9th floor.) First I had the warmed goat cheese salad(amazing!) and my entrée was sauteed lump crab with green onion and«seasonal vegetables». These seasonal vegetables were fantastic — -not the usual limp zucchini or broccoli that you get at other places. These seasonal vegetables consisted of crisp sauteed broccolini, grilled asparagus, and grilled carrot. Super delicious! There was so much crab that I couldn’t eat it all(and my entrée was only $ 27.00). Definitely will be returning here.

My wife and I dined at Shearns on Goof Friday, 2014. We arrived at the appointed time, were seated immediately and enjoyed a spectacular view of Galveston Island. We both had the lobster bisque, a Caesar salad and the red snapper. All three were excellent! The service was superb. We will definitely be going back and recommedning Shearns to friends and family.

First time at Shearn’s during restaurant week. The pre-fix menu had a good variety of options. My parents and I all got something different so got to try all of it! Very tasty. Pan seared snapper, shrimp, and NY strip entrees were delish. Service was attentive and had an overall pleasant experience. Would go back for a special occasion.

We dined at Shearn’s on New Year’s Eve, when they had a fixed menu. Arguably, these special fixed menus are usually the best or the worst a restaurant has to offer, but the service on these ‘special’ nights is usually poorer than standard. So with that said, we were quite impressed with the service. The hostess was a little timid and not overly friendly, but the waiter and the other table servers were simply wonderful. The chef visited our table, and he was humble and kind. We appreciate his visit. The scallop appetizer, I dare say, was the single most perfect scallop I have ever eaten. The only complaint was that there was only one of them. It was atop a soft potato slice, seared perfectly, perfect amount of carmelization, perfect flavor… just absolutely perfect scallop. Two of our diners had the mushroom and chicken crepes, which had this light cream sauce that was simply divine. I will be looking to have them again – and I don’t usually care for mushrooms. It reminded me of a restaurant’s crepes I used to love back home, 10 hours away, so it was a nice memory along with a good dish. So with this praise so far, you might wonder why four stars instead of five. There are a few reasons for the loss of one star: 1) hostess was a little aloof and not overly friendly 2) the wine choices were a bit limited for basic wines(some good choices, but limited ones) and 3) the salads were just average, nothing spectacular. And lastly, the fish dish was good, but nowhere near the quality or level of flavor as the other meat dishes. If I had not seen or tasted the lamb and the wagyu beef, the fish would have been fine, but after tasting the other diners’ meals and them being so fantastic, the fish was definitely lacking. Not bad, but nowhere near as wonderful as the other dishes. That all said, the bread crustinis were fantastic. I would say the leek soup was pretty amazing – my son, who doesn’t even like leeks at all, loved the soup. We all wished there was more soup! Then the main courses: lamb and wagyu beef. The lamb was probably close to the best lamb I’ve ever had. Tabella has a great lamb, and it would be hard to compare the two-both are really good. This one was as good or close to as good as Tabella’s lamb. The wagyu beef here was so tender, so perfectly cooked that it almost literally melts in your mouth with flavor. The dessert, arguably not my favorite thing at any restaurant(I’m not that into sweets) was good, and very pretty, but not spectacular or really stand out in any way. The sauce, a berry sauce with pomegranate, was really good, though. Prices are a bit steep, but average for upscale. The atmosphere is a little awkward, since it’s an upscale restaurant but it’s at a resort-type hotel, so the dress is a little bit more casual than one might expect. The waiters try to be upscale, but the oversized suits that don’t fit quite right and the slightly casual environment that’s attempting to be upscale sort of fails a little bit. But when it comes right down to it, the food is what’s most important at any restaurant, and this place has great food – fantastic meat dishes, really good seafood, and average prices for the type of restaurant with good service. We’ll definitely consider returning for their regular menu the next time we’re at Moody Gardens. If you want to try some of the best beef you’ve ever had, this place is worth the visit.

Hubs and I came here this last weekend for our early Valentine’s Day dinner. Here’s a quick run-down of everything: Ambiance: dim lighting and everything inside was nice, but don’t get too excited about the view(you’ll be looking down at a crappy Schlitterbahn in the formal dining room) Service: professional and slow(perfect for this kind of dining experience). I loved that we were never rushed and could really take our time. Food: bread & butter-3(but who really cares– it’s bread), lobster bisque– 4.5, escargot– 5(I wish I could just have this as a meal!), lamb chops– 4.5, ribeye– 4.5, bread pudding– 4, crème brûlée– 5(keep in mind that I’m a sucker for crème brûlée), Hubs’ Manhattans– 5, my wine-5, coffee– well, it’s coffee. Overall, we had a great experience. At around $ 100 per person, keep this place in mind for a special occasion. It’s probably the nicest restaurant in Galveston.
