Staff was friendly, but the food was just ok, at best. Over-medium eggs were closer to over-easy, bacon was sad-looking and not crispy as requested. And breakfast was over-priced –10-bucks for two eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and a solitary slice of toast. Maybe I’m spoiled by Reno where you can get a feast for a few dollars? Maybe. The upside was we got $ 10 off by staying at the hotel next door. Even with that, we’re not rushing back.

Good find. Rating of 3 and a half is deceptively low. This is a much better place than that. Had crab cake slider, fish tacos, and clam chowder. All of it was outstanding. Nice clean place and good service.

Cheap and clean! The breakfast burrito was great. But my biscuits and gravy tasted very burnt and were inedible, but some is was $ 5 it wasn’t a big deal. I’d stick to made to order things.

Good food, fast service, nice staff. Breakfast is discounted if you’re staying at the Pacific Reef hotel next door. We’d definitely come here again!

Customer service 5 stars. I only gave it four bc the fish and chips were a little oily. However everything was delicious especially for a small town. French toast was great and the Pacific Reef hotel gave us a whopping $ 10 off the meal. Definitely would come back.

We were looking for a quick place to stop in and grab a bite to eat. We chose it based on some simpler reviews. When we walked in we were a bit surprised that it wasn’t necessarily a «sit down restaurant» you place your order and sit down much like fast food but the surprising part was the so not fast food products we received. The food was delivered fast and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the reef burger and was pleasantly surprised how good a simple burger could be. My husband ordered the chicken blt and he said aside from being an average chicken sandwich it was good. They served beer which my husband got one and enjoyed it thoroughly. Over all I would say this is a great place to stop in for lunch. Will be going by again on our next visit to the area!

SUCH a pleasant surprise! I was expecting a cheap, seafood house near the beach — a quick fix for our freshly caught salmon, right next to our hotel. Despite the IHOP looking exterior, the inside has been freshly remodeled and is surprisingly Fancy inside! Delicate ambience, a professional crew who are extremely polite. In fact — we had FOUR separate workers come up to visit us during our meal, just to chat and make sure everything was going well, even when our original server had already attended to everything. The food was extravagant and delicious, compared to what could be expected from a fish shack by the beach. Our salmon they cooked was honestly some of the BEST I ever had. And they HOOKED it up. They cooked our salmon catch THREE different ways for all of us to sample — blackened, baked, and grilled. And for only $ 10 a fish. They ended up giving us a pitcher of iced tea, and a couple cups of the ‘Oscar winning coffee’ from Oregon — All left off the bill, in part thanks to our 7 person party and extravagant appetizer tasting(which were also quite delicious with a seafood artichoke cheese dip, and crab&shrimp quesadillas!). We all left pleasantly and surprisingly satisfied, our seafood, fresh catch, and delicacy cravings superbly fulfilled! For a bowl of fresh local clam chowder in a bread bowl with a huge mound of melted cheese on top, or a fine selection of fancy fresh fish, check out the Chowder House!

Best fish and chips ever! Ordered the 3 piece it was bigger than the 4 piece my husband ordered. Very generous amounts, although fruit was not an option anywhere on the menu, it was still a 5 star and perfect for the price.

Wow. It can be hard to find a good restaurant in Southern Oregon, but the Chowder House had delicious and unique items on the menu. The service we had was good and the chowder was delicious. Thick and hearty. I would stop here again on my travels to Gold Beach.

Terrible clam chowder so full of potatoes, and the fish(cod)was old or frozen. Tough to bite on, barley ate any of it. waste of money!

I was so very excited to try this restaurant, because a restaurant named Chowder House MUST have heavenly chowder, right? Sadly, I was wrong… Our clam chowder was lukewarm at best, and was about 90% bisque, 10% sad little lumps of gritty clams. Trying my best to avoid TMI, I will just say that it left both my husband and I sick on the first day of our vacation. Previous reviewers have mentioned that there was a change in management, which would explain why it is highly rated. Maybe the Chowder House used to really excel in the chowder department, but that is no longer the case.

This place had good french fries, so if you are looking for a place to just grab fries and leave, its probably the place for you. That said, we had a poor experience here. There were lots of flies landing on us and our food. The fish and chips had WAY too much breading to the point of being soggy and doughy. I had to pull the breading off and just eat the fish by itself. The fish didn’t seem all that fresh either. They messed up my girlfriend’s fish tacos after she specifically asked for no onions(allergic). The service was bad, the girls in the kitchen were talking and laughing obnoxiously loud in the kitchen being even more distracting than the annoying music that was blasting. Won’t go back.

Extremely disappointed. Over the past couple of years we always stopped at the chowder house when we were in town. They had the best chowder I had ever had. In fact all of the food I had was good. When I walked in I realized the place had changed, it was no longer a sit down restaurant. It now looks like a fast food restaurant. In hopes that the chowder was still good I ordered a bowl. It was warm at best and not anything special.

I don’t know about, «The best calm chowder» but I’m hard pressed to remember when I had better! It was delicious. The fish tacos were OK. They lacked a little in overall flavor bur they were made well. Presentation was good. Also had breakfast here. The omelet was a ham cheese and vegi. They pre-fried the vegi and ham mix which made for a very tasty breakfast! We also tried the bisquits and gravy, which was pretty good. I liked that they weren’t afraid to season their food so it had good flavor. Overall a very good place to eat. I would go back and try the fish tacos. I just might have caught an off night. Definitely worth the trip for the chowder.

Clam chowder was really good here, as was the turkey salad. The chowder had lots of clam chunks in it, and the soup base was quite thick, not runny. This is a restaurant where you place an order at a cash register and they bring it out to you. Food came out quickly. The place seemed clean and well kept.

Is it uncool to lick your bowl in a restaurant? I sure wanted to! Absolutely delicious clam chowder and very tasty crab cakes. It looks like a tableservice restaurant from outside but you order a at counter and they bring the food to your table. Friendly staff.

Yuck. I was not impressed. The food was appalling. The service, even worse. Sigh. My boyfriend loves clam chowder. Loves. So, naturally, when we’re on the coast, it’s on the top of our list. We went and ordered two bread bowls of clam chowder. I love bread bowls. Love. We sat down and our food came to us… in… plastic bowls. Huh. Okay… so, we let it go. No big deal(but really, it is). As I began to take a bite, I noticed that the soup was saturated with salt and bacon. Ick. I was quite shocked. I’ve never been served clam chowder with bacon in it, ever. I thought it would at least specify on the menu… but no. Clam chowder in a bread bowl means an entire pig and salt in a plastic bowl. Oh dear. It was horrendous. We couldn’t even eat our soup. Even though my boyfriend eats meat, the salt was so overwhelming that it made him gag. We also watched other customers get served the wrong entrees/beers. The service was awful. The servers weren’t attentive and chatted loudly about personal issues while we stared at our food in disgust. Sigh. Such a waste. We ended up leaving with our food untouched and drove to Brookings to find another place to eat. Don’t. Go. Here.

We discovered this restaurant a couple of months ago, shortly after we moved to Gold Beach. We’ve been back five or six times since. For one, the food is fresh and delicious. I really love their Caesar salad, because I’ve yet to have it when it wasn’t completely fresh. I can’t count the times I’ve ordered Caesar salad at a restaurant and it comes out limp, even slightly translucent. Yecch. But at the Chowder House, I’m getting fairly spoiled. Excellent fish and chips, too. And their clam chowder is fabulous. But if you really want a treat, you *must* try their baked goods. Kyla brought home some chocolate donut holes that were so sinfully delicious that I’m pretty sure we’re going straight to the Devil. Lord. The atmosphere is homey and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. If you’re looking for a very nice place for lunch or dinner, you’ve gotta try the Chowder House.

Stopped in here the day we went on our rafting trip on Sunday, we though we’d be saving some time by just going next door from our hotel WRONG! So, yes it was breakfast, but word of advice if you go in the door that has the fudge counter, guess what? You are not going to be seated, not even remotely looked at. You will be ignored until you go to across from there to the sign that says«please wait to be seated» like that was intuitive, I couldn’t even see the sign, but I guessed that’s what it was and walked over there. Then, they say it’s going to be a wait, really? You have a whole side of the restaurant that isn’t even occupied. So the guy sits us over there and promptly forgets about us after saying he was going to get us some menus and some waters. It felt like to me we were being punished for asking to be seated. Unreal. We told the guy we were in hurry and at the end, I told him we were staying next door so we could get our discount, which we didn’t get. Was not impressed with the food either. Certainly nothing to write home about. I wouldn’t suggest this place, go down the street elsewhere if you are looking for breakfast. I think there are places closer to the rafting place. A big boo hiss to this place. Service SUCKS!
