I have ordered take out from Halu a number of times and it never disappoints. The sushi is fresh — never a hint of anything but fresh, the service is extremely friendly, and they always toss in a little extra something gratis — which is nice. Recommended.

I came here on a Monday night with three co-workers. May was our server who was exceptional. We ordered seaweed salads to start — great portion, flavor was perfect. It was well made. We ordered several rolls, sashimi, sushi. .. everything came out perfectly. May was very attentive and made sure we didn’t go without water or anything else. Definitely recommend and will return.

This is my favorite sushi place to go. I eat here on a monthly. The place is very clean, the staff is unbelievably nice and the service is fast and friendly. What makes me come back is one, service and two, how fresh the fish is. I like their shrimp tempura with cream cheese(FAVE). Would recommend!

This place is fantastic. The egg drop soup was fantastic, and the sushi fresh and delicious. I had the Firecracker Roll… the owner, Mr. Chang, was very pleasant and made sure everything was correct. Don’t miss this place!

We’ve probably been here 10 times over the last few years and it is consistently excellent. Being good is tough enough, but being consistently good is the real challenge – and a challenge they meet handily. Atmosphere isn’t the best, being a former Wendy’s, but it’s also better than that sounds. Service has always been attentive, including the owner who consistently greats you like you’re a regular, even if you’re not. Best of all is the food, whether it’s the sushi or the tempura platters.(They also have a selection of Asian dishes, but frankly if I’m in the mood for Chinese or Thai, I’ll go to a place that specializes in those.) The son is home from college and Jonesing for some sushi, so my mouth is already watering in anticipation! P. S. If feeling adventurous, try out some of the flavored sake. Probably anathema for purists, but I’m not a purist so I just enjoyed it!

We’ve been coming here regularly for about 6 months now. We usually pop in for a meal every few weeks, so we’ve racked up quite a good number of visits! Like every restaurant, some dishes impressed me more than others. The one thing that kept us coming back(strangely) is their beef fried rice. It is hands down the best fried rice I’ve had ever since leaving Asia! Their rolls are lovely– so don’t be afraid to try new ones every time you come. I’ve recently concluded that their egg drop soup is delightful(after ordering about 4 different egg drop soups this week from other asian places) Sashimi is pretty good too– keeping in mind that this is Colorado and not a coastal city! Service is pleasant and on point, and the little mint chocolate at the end of the meal is delightful.

Great place to have sushi while you’re in Golden. Everything is fresh and well prepared. The servers are great and the sushi chefs are friendly, too. I’ve been a couple of times now and sure to go back again.

Was passing through town doing some errands and decided to try it out. Sushi chef/owner was great. Made me a great sashimi sampler with very generous portions and variety. Pleasant atmosphere and great food.

I absolutely love this place! The sushi is delicious, as is the rest of their menu. I worked in Golden for several years and this was my go-to place to grab a bite to eat. The owner is so kind and accommodating. The interior of the restaurant is really nice as well — don’t judge it by the exterior look. You can tell they go the extra mile with everything. Great food, great service, and it is very clean! I don’t work in Golden anymore and live closer to other sushi places. I’ve tried them all and nothing compares.

Excellent! Great sushi options. Very impressed by the kids meals too — teriyaki beef was a Benton box with with beef, broccoli, rice, Edamame and 2 big crab Rangoon — my daughter loved it.

What a pleasant surprise… Don’t let the exterior fool you, once you walk in the door you’ll know why I’m writing this review, the atmosphere feels authentically Japanese and the sushi is wonderful, staff is attentive and nice. Great experience!

Love, love, love this place! I have been going here for about two years now and love the owner, staff, and food. It is housed in an old Wendy’s building, but as soon as you walk in you encounter a water feature and the sushi bar where you can belly-up and watch them make your food. Or, you can choose to sit in the dining room. We, for some weird reason, sit at the same table every dinner we have there. It is right next to the fish tank and no, they aren’t sushi-grade fish… just goldfish :) Things to try: Edamame, seaweed salad, or Thai Spring rolls for appetizers Eel and salmon sashimi And our personal favorite, the School of Mines roll! This roll is cooked and absolutely heavenly. The heart attack roll is good too, but comes in second to the CSM roll :) Try this place and you won’t be disappointed!

One of my favorites to visit off old Golden road. Great balance of quality and price! The sushi is well prepared, they have the best California rolls around. If you’re looking for nothing but sushi and willing to spend some more, Sushi Uokura down the road is the best around… Fantastic soups, especially the egg drop. The Kung Pao and Sesame Chicken are the best I’ve had. They fry it so light that it’s not all heavy and doughy. Pro tip: make sure to pull the $ 6 off –or– free California roll coupon right off their website! I use my mobile and just show it to them.

A gem in Golden. The place was packed on a Friday night but we were seated promptly. Everything from the apps(veggie and shrimp tempura) to the sushi(too many rolls to detail) were very good. The hostess is a little brusque, but she’s fine. We will definitely be back!

Decent spot. We came here en route to Denver from Breckenridge. The service was actually very good, especial considering the fact that I was with a group of 16 people. Although some of the food didn’t come out hot, the server was fairly prompt and attentive. The main issue I had here was actually with the quality of the food. We got everything from assorted sushi rolls, chicken/beef entrees, and various appetizers. Foremost, the Kung Pow chicken was horrible. Aside from the fact that it was cold, the sauce was very bitter and chicken had more batter than meat. No one was able to eat this entrée, which unfortunately went to waste. The sushi rolls were really good. If I was to visit this restaurant again, I’d probably only order the sushi and egg drop soup. We had 6 – 7 different sushis, and all of them were great! The ambiance of the restaurant was enjoyable as well. Even though it was previously a Wendy’s, the inside of it looks nothing like one! The environment coupled with the service did make up for the subpar quality of the entrees.

Very good! The roll school of mines is filling. Noticed the manager answering the phone, asking how people were & greeting guests. Was nice to eat at the bar in front of the chef. The rolls looked beautiful coming out. Thanks for the great experience.

I’ve gotta say — I was really impressed by this place. As a newly minted resident of Golden, I’ll admit this wasn’t very high on my list of restaurants to try. After falling into a comfortable routine of a handful of restaurants, I decided it was time to branch out and try a new place in Golden. We weren’t disappointed. As someone who is mostly luke-warm about sushi(I know — the horror!) I found that I still had a great time and enjoyed my meal at Halu. As usual, we ordered about 10 times as much food as we actually needed, but we found all of it to be delicious. Our only exception was one of the fried sushi rolls we ordered — there was too much going on there and the flavors just weren’t the best. Other than that, we ordered a handful of fairly traditional rolls from their checklist ordering form and enjoyed them very much. We also had an order of Mongolian Beef(did I mention we ordered too much food?) which was delicious and nothing like the typical Chinese food grossness that dish can normally be. The atmosphere is nice, you can tell they put in some work to give the place some ambiance. My only complaint on that front was the lighting — it was way too bright in there! Otherwise though it had a very nice feel. And the wine is cheap, which has to be worth at least 1 star on it’s own. Overall, a pretty good choice for a night out in Golden, even if it’s in kind of a weird location.
