This place taught me recently that just because a restaurant’s parking lot is covered up in cars all the time, it doesn’t mean that the food is good. No offense to the elderly, but if it turns out that all of those cars belong to octogenarians with diminished taste buds, you can’t trust that the food is worth stopping for. After years of passing on Mason’s because it always looked too crowded to bother with, we stopped in for a late lunch recently. I was immediately put off by the dirty tables and sad décor in the dining room. Our server was not very pleasant and seemed rather lethargic. I had the meatloaf, broccoli salad, and corn nuggets. The only portion of this meal that was decent was the corn nuggets, which are obviously purchased frozen. The meatloaf was a soggy, spongy mess, and the meat was pale and gray-ish. There were a lot of large, grayish/brownish bits in the loaf that I could not for the life of me identify for most of my meal. I pushed them aside, afraid of what they might be. They turned out to be tomatoes, stewed(?) beyond recognition. The broccoli salad was so heavy on the onion, that I could barely eat it. And I generally love broccoli salad and onions.(For the best broccoli salad in the area, look to Burdett’s Tea Shop in Springfield, TN.) My boyfriend had sweet and sour chicken with rice, macaroni and cheese and corn nuggets. Again the only palatable item on the plate was the bought-in-bulk corn nuggets. His chicken entrée looked and tasted like off-brand Chicken Helper. I almost laughed when the server sat it on the(dirty) table. It was so gross. We will not be visiting Mason’s again.

This place is good for lunch but it’s not as good as the hype. I have eaten here several times and it’s better for breakfast than lunch. You can get in and out pretty fast and the food is average, so if your close by swing in and eat. At the worst you get full and leave pretty fast.
