The Beauty Spa

Everyone was so friendly! My sister and I got pedicures to celebrate our birthdays. I liked the pedicure set up. It was very comfortable. I loved the aveda products and I love Essie polish.
My sister really enjoyed her experience. I did too, but I felt like the technician wasn’t into it. Like it was a chore. I don’t want to say anything bad because they were very sweet.
The hot tea was wonderful. Leah was very hospitable.

I want to start off by saying this is a beautiful spa and everyone I interacted with was so sweet and friendly. I went In for a Brazilian wax had high expectations based on the atmosphere and staff.
About ¹⁄₃ of the way through my wax I noticed that the aesthetician had dipped the same stick just used on me back into that wax pot. I then realized there were no used sticks in a trash can that I could see, which led me to believe that she had been using the same stick the entire time. I then asked, upfront, if she had been using the same stick throughout the wax. To my dismay, she said she had been using the same stick and that I was definitely not the only client she had waxed with this pot of wax.
While the technique was really good and I could tell that she was paying close attention to detail, I couldn’t allow her to continue to wax my inner labia. I have never in my life had an aesthetician double dip or think it’s an «okay practice». It’s an unsafe and unhygienic practice; The wax does not get hot enough to kill bacteria. As clients, we trust aestheticians to provide their services in a safe and hygienic manner, which is why I was so shocked by how casually this aesthetician confirmed the practice.
It is up to each person to decide what they are comfortable with, but for the aforementioned reason, I cannot recommend this establishment.

I have now had four facials with Anita, and my (aging) skin looks better than it has in years. She is dealing effectively with problem areas, I love the Aveda products, and I feel relaxed and comfortable when I see her at The Beauty Spa. Also, I think that the prices for services are very reasonable.
Right before Christmas I had a gel manicure, which was mostly okay. However, one nail began to bubble and peel within days, which was a hassle, since I was out of town and could not have it corrected.
Overall, I highly recommend The Beauty Spa… mostly because I think that Anita is great. She does a really terrific job, and this is my first choice for facials in Harrisonburg.

My massage was fantastic! However, the massage room in the front of the house overlooks Market Street– I could hear the traffic the entire time.

I got an eyebrow and bikini wax here this week.
First, I was so confused on where the entrance to the building was, there is parking in the back, then you have to walk into the side of this residential looking house an up stairs… it was a little hard to figure out, a sign might have helped.
Second, the technician was very nice and welcoming! She did a great job on my eyebrows. My bikini wax tho… oh my god no. She did a mixture of hot wax and hard wax, however the wax was insanely hot, not just uncomfortable but SUPER hot my skin was red for the next 3 days. Then, once i got home to look at it, i was surprised to see it was totally off center. It looked like the side that was further away from her was totally neglected, and I ended up having to shave to even it out.
In the middle of the wax a girl knocked on the door to tell her that there was an appt before me who showed up late and that she had been sitting there «For a really really long time». The end of my appt seemed rushed and not attended to, which was disappointing.
For eyebrows, I 100% would suggest it was great, for a bikini wax, I however do not.

Since my massage with Michael, I’ve had my nails done at the Beauty Spa, numerous facials/​waxing/​eyebrow tinting by Shannon, and massages by Taryn and Jen. Is there nothing that this team can’t do perfectly? Shannon is an angel and makes even the dreaded bikini wax comfortable. She puts me into a magnificent trance with her facials (read: I snort myself awake sometimes) and my skin has never been more glowing and healthy since I started seeing her. Taryn and Jen both have wicked strong hands and a keen ability to find all those little spots that you never knew needed a working over but desperately do. I honestly think that my overall health has improved because of the services I’ve had at the BS.

You can always count on The Beauty Spa to offer top notch luxurious service. Anita holds the highest standards and does her best to hire and maintain skilled and professional staff. The products are all natural and the environment is serene and beautiful. Try them out!

While on a weekend visit to Harrisonburg we had a coupon offered by our B&B for The Beauty Spa. We booked a chakra alignment double with no problem. The second floor studio is cozy and relaxing. The receptionist was pleasant, and our masseuses were thorough in talking us through what would occur and asking about areas of special tension, tenderness, etc.
What followed was a wonderful and relaxing hour massage followed by a complimentary tea. We found the experience from start to finish to be professional, relaxing, and a wonderful start to a weekend getaway.

First let me start by saying I live in the West Village in NYC and normally frequent Jin Soon, a VERY high nail salon here in NYC. I was home over the Thanksgiving holiday and a friend recommended this place. I foolishly didn’t check the cost – my own fault, I totally admit that, as I assumed that there was NO WAY anywhere in Harrisonburg would have the nerve to charge more than Jin Soon in Manhattan for a regular mani/​pedi. I was wrong! They charged ten dollars more! $ 60 for a mani/​pedi! If I had been in NYC at the Guerlain Spa or Elizabeth Arden or somewhere, okay. no biggie. But to receive a very very mediocre mani/​pedi (and I’m being kind) at this price, I cannot honestly fathom what the owner is thinking! Don’t Don’t waste your money! I have had much much better mani/​pedis in the burg at some of the asian owned nail salons for HALF the price!
