This place is filthy! It’s a shithole, like rats been living in here for years. Ordered beef links, the Bbq sauce was good but the quality of meat, godddamnnnn, who taught you how to Bbq? Abviously it was rushed, the outside was burned as hell m, the inside is pinkish, about 30% all fat, meat was rubbery, it was horrible but I was hungry! And gave me a wet $ 5 bill change with dude’s wet hands. wTF?!

Back in the day, I would have given this place five stars. Today, the beef links are causing me to show a little mercy. Is it possible for E&J to just stop serving sides? Clearly, that’s not what they specialize in. My potato salad consisted of just mayo and potatoes with the skin. I would not serve that slop to my dog. The baked beans are allegedly cooked with links, but I could not find any links in my beans and they were extremely bland. I’m not sure of who is running the show here, but they need Restaurant Rescue to come to their aid. The prices are too high and they should be able to afford to remodel this dive. Side note: A few years ago, I traveled from Vegas for their world famous links, and they were completely out. The young guy at the register asked to photograph my freshly pedicured feet for a school project, in exchange for some links. I obliged and he even threw in a few desserts.

This spot is not for u silly ass Unilocalers man know the culture get your mind right this is a BBQ joint they have smackin ass sliced brisket with hot bbq sauce that’s unmatchable. Don’t go in expecting a 5 star dining experience you’re in a shack where they give you meat with sauce and bomb ass potato salad served with 2 slices of wheat bread

Probably the best barbecue sauce I ever had in my life!!! this barbecue sauce is better than Rasta Joe’s and gates barbecue and a few other ones that are top notch… the problem is the meat here is very bad quality… it has Lots of fat on and burnt most of the time also the service is very bad there’s been times I waited 20 minutes for my food not only that, but there’s often times they forget your order I would not recommend this location…

I’d chose this spot over Carmen’s. These people aren’t the friendliest, they have a bullet proof glass but if you know the history of this franchise, you’d understand. They make delicious food, baisically the same price as Carmen’s but the way they treat you at Carmen’s is unacceptable. However this spot is better in my opinion, if you want good food, and better service than carmens because they don’t know how to communicate with people.

Wish they would take credit cards how many people care cash around. This location seems cleaner then in the past years. The workers are not that friendly any longer.

I can Never, find them open on time! This location is supposed to open at 11:00! At 11:30 no one is answering the phone! I recommended EnJ’s bar b q for a lunch meeting! I pull up and nobody is there! Foods good if you can get to it! But never plan for lunch! You’ll be disappointed! CP time just doesn’t work!

I wish I could give no stars. I will start with the pros… the sauce is much better than the Oakland locations. It was also proportionate with the meat… if I could call it meat because for $ 17 dollars, I received mostly fatty pieces of brisket and the back of the chicken(mostly bones) and one chicken leg. They stiffed me on my extra corn and they ran out of almost all sides accept corn, potato salad and Cole slaw… they would not allow us to do a phone order because they said they don’t know if they will have food. This family business has been thriving for over 30 years, so by now I would think they could estimate how much food they need on one of their busiest nights. It makes me really sad because this business has been a staple in the community since I was a child; however, they are so inconsistent. That will absolutely be my last visit until I see some better reviews…

I have been eating and Everett and Jones since they were on Fruitviale back in the 1970s. When I move back to the Hayward area I was excited to find an Everett and Jones outlet near me. That was before I went in and order three way last Saturday. When I got home and opened the package the beef was mostly fat except for some very tough meat And the links were dried out. The sauce was the only good thing. What a waste of $ 20.00. I will never go back.

I’ve been a loyal supporter of E&J since 1998. The Hayward shop seems to never be open during their posted later business hours, especially on Friday and Saturdays. Open till 10 on Saturday? Nope. Closed before 8 tonight. Not the first time this has happened over the last year or so. At least they finally let you know they are now a cash only shop. Kind of funny that in this day and age, in the Bay Area, that they cannot take credit or debit cards. Not too sure how much they were being charged for transaction fees, but it must have been outrageous I suppose. Additionally, I have not been OK with the attitudes I’ve received from behind the counter when I was actually able to get in and place an order when the store was actually open during posted business hours. It’s just disappointing for such great food. 5 Stars for food when open. 1 star because they cannot stay consistent on that. The one star is what I am going with.

I used to love this place. It used to serve real BBQ. I’ve been coming here since the 90s. Now it’s just not worth it. The counter person was rude to me, and the food was just ok.

Even though I love E&J BBQ, esp the one on 2nd St. in Oakland, we’ve never been to this particular location before, we came here for lunch around noon the other day, only to find that this was a dinky little place with hardly any seating, there are bars on the windows and main door, and you place your order at the counter through a bullet proof glass. And even though they were open, there were no other customers in sight. uhh no thanks. We left.

I’ve been going to the E&J’s in Hayward since we moved to San Leandro 15 years ago — before we were faithful customers of the Berkeley E&J’s. Clearly, we love it. The ribs are just to die for, the sliced beef can be dried, but the flavor is just there — and my husband loves the links. We generally forgo the chicken because it’s dry and doesn’t have the deep flavor of the other meats. They have an old fashioned oven/smoker, so the meats are really infused with flavor — and the BBQ sauce is to die for. Note that it’s on the sweet side, in particular the mild one. Side dishes are OK. The restaurant doesn’t have much of an atmosphere, but this is really a take out place — with a humble place to wait for your order. Service is great, as quick as it can be(they’re always busy) and polite. The food is not cheap — but the portions here are generous, and larger than those of the Berkeley E&J’s.

It’s not cheap, and unfortunately it garners no points for ambience. That being said, it is delicious. It’s more of a Carolina style barbecue, so nice and sweet. The menu is simple and straightforward, there’s four meats and four sides and three flavors of sauce: mild, medium, and hot. There’s no difference in flavors, just in how much pepper they put in. The beef brisket is pretty tough but I personally like it that way, the ribs have a tough chewy layer, as well. However the ribs are tender in the center. The chicken is average, not really special or horrible, but is is moist. Paired with that sauce it’s really good! Essentially, 1. The sauce is the best part 2. Probably wanna order to-go 3. Expect to pay a bit much, but worth it!

Well its 12:15 and they just opened the doors although their business hours state that they open at 11am. Of course nothing is prepared so the wait time for a basic lunch plate is about 45 minutes and oh yeah one more thing their card machine broken so its«cash only» for now(no apologies for this either). If you are in the neighborhood and they happen to be open you might have some luck that maybe 1 or 2 of the 3 different items on the menu MIGHT be available, but dont count on it. What can I say, food is great but service sucks. Ghetto as hell, sat and waited 5 minutes for them to even come up to the Window and help me even tho all three employees sat and looked at me several times. Of course when I ordered they were sold out of sliced beef once again. They seem to never have enough. Only reason I keep coming back is the food. Service sucks!
