I had the privilege of experiencing my 3rd retreat at the exquisite Bishop’s Ranch. This gorgeous retreat center never disappoints. The landscaping is beautiful and attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. The views of the Russian River Valley are stunning. There are multiple hiking trails some of which lead to the 2 lakes on this property. The staff are extremely accommodating and welcoming. The food is delicious, healthy and fresh. One has a feeling of nirvana while at this ranch.

The best retreat center I have stayed at –EVER — and I have stayed at many. Tonight is the last night of my week long stay and I am trying to figure out how I could ever eat this well at home. Impossible! Everything is delicious. The staff is welcoming and responsive. The grounds are beautiful, with acre upon acre of rolling hills and trails upon which to roam. Adirondack chairs dot the campus so one can relax and watch hummingbirds or the dog roll in over the vineyards in the valley. I will be back!

I’ve enjoyed annual retreats at Bishop’s Ranch for years. It is truly a special, beautiful place. However, I would strongly(very strongly) recommend that you not leave valuables in your room.

I’ve been going here since I was kid with my family. It’s a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Just a few miles away and your in another world. The Food is great(that’s all we seem to do is eat) and the area and trails are the best. When I was younger I remember the nights playing hide and seek and sneaking in to take a swim. Our church Saint Francis in San Francisco I don’t think has ever missed a late Summer 3 day weekend there. It’s a place where you can sit and fall asleep and not worry about anything. Kids can run around and you don’t have to worry about where they are. When they hear the Dinner bell they come running! As a kid I loved it. As a Husband I can share it with my wife.

So here’s a thought: Of all the fancy places you could stay in Sonoma, the one place you probably would never think about, dear reader, is the Bishop’s Ranch! Picture this with me: Bucolic farmlands(With the occasional smell of cows to boot), wonderful wineries as far as the eye can see, meals made organically and served bountifully, places to hike or just sit back read and enjoy a sunset. That is what makes the Bishop’s Ranch so wonderful. Oh sure, you could drop a sizable chunk of change at some lousy hotel(Hell, I’ve done it!) and get a standard room with little else save HBO! Or you could get all this for less the $ 200 clams a night and it includes well made meals! Heck, this is a secret I should keep, but Episcopalians as well as other religious and nonreligious types have been coming here for years. Time to paint this picture on a wider screen; time to let the world know this a gem in heart of wine country. I promise the few days you spend here will do a lot more good than any mud bath or shopping spree. Oh, but why choose? You could have it all by spending a weekend or longer here. Consider yourself informed.

20 years of visiting the Bishop’s Ranch has enriched my family’s life. Music weekends, family camps, spiritual retreats, and all kinds of special events. The grounds are beautiful, the food delicious, the staff wonderful.

It’s not just a line in a brochure; this really is «a place where lives are changed.» Whether it’s a retreat weekend or a week of multi-generational summer camp, you leave this place feeling lighter and reflective. No matter what the nature of your stay is at this beautiful retreat center west of Healdsburg, you will come away with the taste of deliciously prepared food, the sights of a scenic ranch above the vinyards, and the warmth of comfortable rooms and a gracious staff. It is the perfect incubator for your spirit to grow in or just renew. After ten years of consistently wonderful visits, my children and wife consider the Ranch our second home.

This is so 6th grade for me. Doing the ropes course with 30 of my fellow classmates, sneaking out of our cabins late at night, legs falling asleep as we sit indian style in a big circle. Awesome memories! This place puts a smile on my face! Are we allowed to go for family vacations?

An Episcopal retreat and conference center situated among the vineyards and farms of Sonoma County, the Ranch, for me, is a «thin place.» What I mean by this is that I feel strongly connected to God’s presence when I am there. The Ranch is a place of renewal and reflection for all people.
