Lorraine’s House of Styles

I have been coming to LHS for a little over a year and have always gotten great service from Aileen! She takes the time to really talk with her clients and find out what they want. She has done traditional highlights and balayage for me, as well as helped correct a really bad haircut from a previous stylists. I enjoy the open atmosphere in the salon and always have an easy time making an appt. If you’re looking for a new stylist, give Aileen a try!

I went last week to get balayage highlights. Paige did a great job, and my hair looked really blended (especially since it was the first time I was seeing her). However, I had in my mind that I wanted to go much blonder than my current color. So I asked her if I could come back in, and she said «of course» — and worked with me until my color was exactly what I wanted.
She’s totally got a new regular.

I felt like I had spent a lot of money and didn’t walk away with a grade A hair style. Even after my second visit to redo the balayage, there were still areas on my head where the color should have been fixed and it wasn’t. I don’t think Jenn did a thorough enough job. She’s a wonderful stylist, but I do not think she is worth $ 170 for a balayage. I also think it was very unprofessional that she was getting her hair done while on the clock and while she was helping other clients. The salon feels more like a sorority than a business.
After my poor rating on Unilocal,Lorraine attacked me via messaging on Unilocal.She didn’t take ownership of her employees mistakes and was very accusatory. She’s extremely classless and rude.

I’ve been coming to Lorraine’s for the past 3 years. Service is great! Lorraine cut my hair even better than i described to her. She is an accomplished stylist and an educator for Redken. I trust her with my cuts and color! She did an awesome job. I will only see Lorraine from now on :)

Absolutely horrible. Worst experience ever with Paige and Lorraine. Unprofessional and complete rip off. Lorraine is totally close minded when it comes to customer satisfaction. Paige had no idea what she was doing when it came to color and was not even able to help correct the mess that she left my hair in. Don’t recommend and will not be returning.
FYI, you have to pay extra to get your hair dried because that’s considered a «wash», does not come with the cut.

Second time seeing Lorraine, she is an exceptional stylist, and I always leave her salon looking and feeling like a queen. I received an amazing wash by Karen, she melted away all my worries! I almost fell asleep! So wonderful! I sincerely love all the girls who work here, we had an epic conversation about the show Shameless, I felt like I was on a night out with my girls! Can not recommend Lorraine enough– she will transform you!
Can not wait to see her and all the girls again!

Today I got a relaxer /​touch up from Chris, she was GREAT! Really nice, fast but not too fast and she knew a ton about hair care. I will definitely be going back! So happy to have found a local place to get my relaxers.

The only thing that this place is missing is the champagne. The service and stylig was excellent, CHris did me on a walk-​in

Love Gina! Changed up my color w highlights and a darker base color and she exceeded all my expectations. Definitely recommend her to Hobokenites looking for a talented creative reliable stylist.

Love this place. Went once for last minute hair extensions in 2013 & then months later for removal and a haircut June 2014. They are expensive compared to other places in the US but not in the NY area. I checked many places around NY and their price is comparable. I had Nidiyah each time and she does a VERY good job. Extensions stayed in without a problem for 4 months. Everyone there is friendly. Would definitely return if I am in the area.

Signed up for their mailing list and received a few coupons towards service. Every single time the coupon was not redeemed and they had to try running my card again. When I got my credit card statement they charged me the full amount. I called to receive my discount and they refused to honor it.
Horrible customer service.

Unfortunately, Karrie is no longer working there so I too had to give up on this place. Very sad indeed. ugh! They could have told me she left!!! And they over book and overprice.
No street parking by the way. You’ll pay at least $ 10.

I have tried a number of different barbershops/​salons in Hoboken and Lorraine’s seems to be the best! They really take care of their clients here. I highly recommend getting a men’s haircut from Karrie. She cuts a perfect head of hair every time. Not only are the haircuts great, but everyone is really nice too. I will continue to go here as long as Karrie sticks around.

Use your own judgement, but if I return to your salon to redo the job I was not satisfied with, why on earth would I have to pay for the services?
I ended up paying another $ 75 after the initial $ 100+ to get my hair fixed because it doesn’t include a blow out. So what you’re telling me is, you mess up my hair, I trust you to «fix it» then you rub salt in the wound and charge more! Was I supposed to go out on the street with wet hair?
I’ll pass.

I’m kind of mixed trying to write a review. I saw Karrie and my haircut was perfect. I had my colour re-​done, which I felt like I had to really fight for. If I had been shyer I wouldn’t of even gotten it fixed because I would of backed down from the confrontation. I would like to note that I’m a hairstylist and I know what the hell I’m doing… My colour was done wrong both times. Both times it didn’t look BAD but it also wasn’t even close to what I asked for. I wish the stylist would of admitted she didn’t know how to do what I asked for but instead she tried to make it seem like it was my hair. Not true. It wasn’t applied right. So now my hair doesn’t look terrible but it’s a totally different colour and not what I wanted. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money. If I wanted to be entirely blond I would of asked for it. The best part was they were going to charge me $ 50 to get my hair blow-​dried! So I left with wet hair. I felt I had paid enough to ruin my hair. C’est la vie I guess.

It was so painful to make an appointment at Lorraine’s! I had an appointment on Monday evening, and I showed up for my appointment only to find that the place was CLOSED. Mind you, they are not normally closed on Mondays, they just decided to pull the shutters on that day without informing their clients about the change. The next day, they have the gall to call and say that the appointment was actually for Tuesday and that they had availability so I could come in. I know for a fact this was a mistake on their end but I decided to give them another chance — we all make mistakes. A couple of hours before the appointment, they call me back asking to reschedule because, oops, the stylist has a class to go to. I had had enough at this point and just canceled.
While I can’t speak for the quality of haircuts here, the place seems badly managed. I also encourage people looking for anything on Unilocal to read the reviews that are ‘filtered’, because guess what, that’s where most of the negative ones end up. Had I read the filtered reviews for this place, I would have not wasted my time trying to go there.

Went to Lorraine’s House of Styles for a blowout with Nidiyah last weekend and had a nice experience. They make you spin a wheel before your treatment so you’re bound to get something free or discounted, which is always fun. The stylists are nice and talkative, and my blowout came out great.

One of few salons in Hoboken open on a Monday, til 9, no less! Went in for a quick 8:30 appointment, last minute, called around 5PM the day of to set it up. The stylist was attentive, informative, and so so quick! Wash, cut, and blowdry was 30 Mins, and only 41 dollars, not including tip. She didn’t fully give me a blow out but given that they were closing, I wouldn’t want to be staying late either. So no hard feelings there.
I got to keep the long length on my hair and she evened out my once choppy layers to a nice full and healthy look. She even showed me how much she was going to cut off before she started to make sure I was comfortable with it. She was super nice and we mostly just gossiped about celebrities and the like. I wasn’t asking for anything fancy but I will totally go back. Sometime, if all you need is a good trim, this place is perfect.
Also — They’re a Redken certified salon. Great hair products, and they don’t force you to buy anything but rather, they send you home with samples to try it out. They’re not pushy at all. At 41 dollars, I can go back and get my hair touched up as often as I should. Definitely satisfied.
