They couldn’t even bring us empty plates for the salad bar. No silverware either. Filthy as usual

This is where you take your mom when you’re dining out in Holland. Guaranteed; nothing is spicy.

Slightly better than a Denny’s or Bob Evans but not what we were hoping for when we were driving by and saw the place with a full parking lot. Most of the food is the same beige color. French fries are mediocre. They serve artificial butter. Really nothing close to good tasting and healthy food. The coffee was ok. Service was good. You will need some antacids after eating here.

The land of iceberg lettuce lives large here. Decent sandwich, chicken salad on rye bread with you guessed it iceberg lettuce. Service seemed to have a pulse, that’s always a nice plus when looking to order diner styled food. Christian music over heard from the kitchen, I must be far far from home.

Went to a Russ’ with a friend for lunch and it was very nice! There are a lot of people for both lunch and breakfast, and although their lunch menu is very limited, a burger and fries isn’t too expensive. For a 1⁄3 pound burger, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onion, and mustard, a side of fries, and a drink, it’ll run you about $ 7 or $ 8. Overall, all the food options are very selective and cheap, and it’s just good food for a good price. It’s a chain of restaurants, so there is one in Grand Rapids as well. I’ll be back hopefully.

Russ’ has gone downhill, and fast. The fried chicken arrived completely undercooked. It was bloody and clearly raw inside. The manager came over and said ‘sorry’, but didn’t offer to either a.) replace the meal or b.) take the meal off the bill. Lame. Incredibly lame. Told the guy I wouldn’t be back and he shrugged. lol. A few years ago the onion rings, the best since Mr. Fables was around, were fantastic. Now? Yuck. It’s the classic problem of simply being cheap and not changing the oil often enough. They’ve got that nasty, bitter and sour aftertaste that lingers on your tongue for hours as the result of way too many fry batches. Awful. The lettuce in the salad bar was clearly old — with significant browning on the edges. The manager incident was the real kicker. I let everyone I know to stay away…

My wife grew up in the area, and though we’ve been together for almost four years, it wasn’t till a visit this fall that I finally had my Russ’ cherry popped. I had no idea what I was in store for, but left very satisfied! The menu has a great mix of standard diner dishes, sandwiches, and other local favorites. My wife loves the Slim Gem. I normally stick with the soup and salad bar… I mean come on, how can anyone pass up an endless supply of 7+ different homemade soups ??? I’m a big fan of the split pea. Best of all, the prices are cheap cheap cheap. If you’re passing through town, be sure to stop by Russ’ before you leave. You wont be disappointed.
