disappointed. decided to eat dinner on valentine’s nite(yes i know) but didn’t really have a wait to get a table… plus…but place didn’t seem to have enough service to run the place. took about 45 minutes to get food and only got drinks twice in that time… and the food was well disappointing. shame I’ve ate at the shrimp basket in tuscaloosa and it was very good… can’t say this was.

Recently decided to drop-in to give this place a whirl. Bad experience. Wasn’t able to taste the food as it took twenty-five minutes to snag ice water for two. The final straw came with the waitress. It appeared that serving guest was the last thing on her mind and I got the hint that she may have been under the influence of dope. After our thirty minute experience, we left. May try again in a few months. Thus far, this place has failed to filled the empty shoe Shunnarah left behind.

I really lucked out it was a Tuesday and about to do the regular carne asada search. They were open had an all you can eat shrimp special that is steamed not fried. The server was friendly and very attentive, nice conversation never goes unappreciated. Food was great nice fresh raw oysters and reasonable size all you can eat shrimp. Plus the sides were all you could eat, good coleslaw, and potatoes. All in all more than worth the visit.

Looking for a quick hot meal and came upon this gem. We had the seafood gumbo! To die for! Very good, the service was nice too, southern hospitality at its finest! My only minor issue is that they only have 1 restroom considering it’s a decently sized restaurant. Besides that all was good!

Blackened fish and shrimp wasn’t blackened it was a brownish red, it was so salty it wasn’t edible. Shrimp in coleslaw wasn’t fresh. Seafood gumbo was equally disappointing. To add insult to injury I was charged 3 times for my meal. Sigh…

I have been waiting for the Shrimp Basket to open because The Shrimp Basket is a must — stop for me whenever I visit Gulf Shores. My first experience at this Shrimp Basket was disappointing. We had to wait a while to be seated. The restaurant is very small and the staff just looked at us without acknowledging us. The three people in my party were disabled, one with a cane. Still, the staff just watched us stand there and stand there and stand there. When finally seated, they gave two other tables who came in after us menus before they gave menus to our table. Our waitress was slow, rude and disinterested. She didn’t know the answers to several questions we asked and didn’t care enough to get the answers. For instance, I asked her if it was possible to get the po boy sandwich on wheat bread and if not, was the sandwich on French bread. I also asked her about several of the portion sizes for the appetizers, but she did not know the answers and didn’t seem to care. The thing most bothersome was that several of the items listed on the menu were not available in the restaurant. For instance, they list daiquiris however they are not available. They don’t even have lemonade at the restaurant«yet.» We asked for other items printed on the menu and again those items were not available«yet». How about this Shrimp Basket — only print available items on the menu, or tell us upfront this restaurant does not offer those items. Do not waste customer time by having us look over items that aren’t even at the restaurant. I ordered the grilled shrimp Po boy sandwich and french fries. I ordered my shrimp blackened. The shrimp were not blackened, but they were cooked perfectly– there was just no spice or kick to the shrimp, so I was disappointed. The lettuce and mayonnaise were on the ungenerous side and the sandwich was uneven in terms of the shrimp and the lettuce and mayonnaise. In fact, one side of the sandwich was actually pretty good. The french fries were underseasoned. I don’t know if they put any seasoning on them at all, however I asked for some Old Bay seasoning. Even though several of the fries were undercooked, the Old Bay seasoning seemed to do the trick. My brothers both enjoyed the onion rings and they liked their Po Boy sandwiches. They did not ask for blackening and the sandwiches had more ingredients on them then my sandwich. My brothers and I enjoyed the key lime pie. This was some of the best key lime pie I have had since moving to Alabama over a decade ago. The crust was soft(not too soft) and the actual pie had a nice little lime kick at the end. Again, the crust was delicious. The slices are rather small but I will try again and ask for a bigger piece next time. During my next few visits, I again got the shrimp Po Boy with blackened shrimp. On three occasions, shrimp shells were left inside my sandwich. I also finally tried the fried crab claws. They were terrible. First of all, they are very small. Secondly. There is no crabmeat to speak of. They did not taste as if they had been seasoned not even a little bit. Honestly, it taste like you are eating flour on a crab claw! Some of the claws were so small, I do not even know why they went in the basket. I also tried the shrimp etoufee. I was told that rice would be in it however there was no rice in my bowl. I was also told by only had yellow rice and turns out they only had white rice. POSITIVE + plenty of parking; also for disabled persons + wide variety of appetizers entrées and sides; A good sized menu, especially if they actually offer everything that is printed on the menu + good location + key lime pie!!! + I look forward to trying the funnel cake dessert + The shrimp is not small. In fact, they were medium sized. NEGATIVE — crab claws — shrimp shells often left them on the shrimp — restaurant is entirely too small. — floor tile is slippery and the floor was dirty — tables were all dirty. We had to wait for someone to clean some tables and they were still dirty — Had to wait a while to be seated in this tiny restaurant while staff workers stared at us. — when we were seated, the service was slow and unwelcoming. — Staff was more interested in watching the football game on TV, than in serving us I will give The Shrimp Basket another try, because this restaurant is a few steps above Captain D’s and because I love shrimp, but they have a ways to go before they are as good as the other Shrimp Baskets I have visited. So far, they are giving the chain a bad name. I look forward to a better experience next time.

Fried Shrimp Basket on the menu! I enjoy the location in Tuscaloosa and this place didn’t disappoint. Fresh cooked to order fried shrimp was delicious and it came with 1 side(fries), 2 hush puppies and 2 corn fritters Seems like a great alternative to Capt D’s…

Seeing that this place was opening on Greensprings excited me, taking me back to my experiences visiting at Gulf Shores. I went to the new spot tonight to see how it compares to the ones at the beach. They’ve only been open two weeks but seem to attract a good crowd. I ate at the bar and had a combo platter with blackened shrimp and catfish. The meal was delicious as expected, just a little more expensive than I would have liked. It was still enough food to satisfy me and remind me why I love shrimp. I will return and recommend this to anyone who wants to feel like they’re at the beach. Check out the menu to see what special deals they have on certain days of the week.

Food was decent but overpriced for mainly being fried. $ 13.99 for étouffée and $ 11.99 for a fried shrimp basket on lunch? Also, you seemed to get more food with the basket instead of the platter option but the platter was more expensive? At least that’s how we had it understood, but maybe our waiter did a poor job explaining it. How they claim to be an oyster bar is beyond me. The only oysters on the menu are fried and there wasn’t a single option for raw oysters. They seem to be going for a nicer sit down experience and the prices reflect that, but the food is not much different than a fast food place. Nothing really seemed to fit together…

It’s seafood in Homewood y’all. Throw back to Gulf Shores a few steps. You are in Birmingham and Captain D’s ain’t happening nor is The Fish Market. This is in between. Fast service sweet wait staff and the shrimp isn’t over cooked nor is the oysters. It’s cooked to perfection. However no spices which left a tad bit of chain food in my mouth. However it’s still a sight for sore eyes for us that live here. A welcomed establishment especially for this of us who miss seafood and trips to the beach. Just saying wasn’t dissatisfied way too much food in the basket to be unhappy. For a restaurant that just opened they hired sweet folks!

Chain seafood restaurants are generally an exercise in mediocre food. I was genuinely impressed with the food and service at Shrimp Basket. Once inside, you’ll be hard pressed to recognize the space as a former counter service restaurant. The décor makes you feel like your at a beachfront oyster bar. I’m not a huge fan of fried foods but went with a fried seafood basket on the rec of Amber; our server. Everything was spot on perfect with a crispy coating and moist center. No complaints. We’ll be back. Ask for Amber, she’s a great server and fun to chat with.
