H & J Cafe Filipino And Local cuisine

Many local Filipinos are often met with disappointment when going to restaurants and eateries that specialize in Filipino cuisine. My food adventure continues exploring Filipino Cuisine.
H&J Café Filipino and local food is a family run business with Uncle (no relation) cooking it up and Aunty serving up the orders and telling everyone how beautiful they look!
H&J offers a variety of Filipino entrees all made fresh. I was unclear about the local food but I’m OK with that; instead I needed to focus the task! My selection was the pinakbit or pinakbet. The entrée is a melody of summertime vegetables, pork and the unique and familiar fragrance of bogoong. For some Filipinos, the sauce isn’t much of a problem but the smell and taste can be a bit overwhelming for others. I was impressed with the selections of vegetables and there was the noticeable fragrance of the brown bogoong. (Some cooks and chefs prefer to use the pink bogoong which is made from shrimp versus the brown bogoong is made with fish.)
What is nice about this entrée is that the vegetables were not overcooked, The bits of okra are firm that I actually enjoyed it and I’m not a big fan of okra! Included with your meal choice are two scoops of white rice. Brown rice does not match well with pinakbet.
Nestor’s prices are comparable with the other eateries in the vicinity. The overall menu selections are understated which is friendly on the wallet! However, the selections showcase what Filipino comfort food is all about!
I will be coming back to try more from their menu selections and to get more compliments on how beautiful I look!
