WOW! Neato!!! Mahalo bruddah Eric Robert R. for posting this cool review, and much Mahalo to da Famous«auntie» — Nadine C. for showing me where this bench is located. Gotta tell you, if you take the time to sit on the Richard Chamberlain Bench… the view is just spectacular! I must come back here again to check out the view during sunset or sunrise… I don’t know too much details about Richard Chamberlain, but I do remember as a kid that Richard Chamberlain starred on two t.v. shows called — «Shogun» & «The Thorn Birds» in the 1980’s. If you«GOOGLE» Richard Chamberlain, you can find out a little about this fine actor’s life. I guess some people were really BIGFANS of Richard Chamberlain, thus this bench was dedicated to him by some very devoted fans. This bench is located at Ala Moana Beach Park(Magic Island side). If you find it… the view from this bench is spectacular! Check it out!

Since ERR, Nadine, and Fran reviewed this bench, I’ll add my two cents. Aunty Nadine was nice enough to show me where this bench is located. It’s at the Ala Moana Beach Park, near the jogging path that’s facing Kewalo. The reason why it’s called the Richard Chamberlain Bench is because there’s a plaque on it that says, Donated By Devoted Richard Chamberlain Fans. I don’t know too much about Richard Chamberlain except that he was an actor. He starred in a TV show that was filmed in Hawaii. The bench is a perfect spot to just chill out. It’s a great place to catch the beautiful Hawaiian sunsets and to hear the soothing sounds of the waves.

I’d often see my Unilocalie friend, Eric Robert R.(ERR), check in at this landmark and wondered where it was. Instead of going from bench to bench at Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park, I asked him to take me there. .and he did! Richard Chamberlain is an actor who was born in Beverly Hills, CA, in 1934. He is a graduate of Pomona College; served in the military; co-founded the Los Angeles theater group, Company of Angels, and lived in Hawaii for a period of over 20 years. His Hawaiian television show, «Island Son», lasted for 18 episodes. He has received many awards such as Golden Globes for his acting roles in «Shogun», «The Thorn Birds», and«Dr. Kildare». In 2000 Richard Chamberlain’s star arrived on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2004, the Senate of the State of Hawaii recognized him for his role in helping to preserve Hawaii’s environment. In 2006, I was lucky enough to see him perform live in «The King and I» at the Hawaii Theater in Honolulu. I was so happy to see the Bench in real life! It’s situated in such a calm place with a spectacular view! The sound of the constant waves and the feeling of the cool breeze under the warm Hawaiian sunshine was truly what tourists seek when they visit our Island Paradise. This experience confirmed my appreciation for my Hawaii nei. It’s so cool that the Hawaii fans of Richard Chamberlain have honored him with this bench! Lucky we live Hawaii. .Hawaii no ka oi!

Did you know there’s a secret bench in Honolulu dedicated to «Richard Chamberlain»… Did you? Probably not. And for those born AFTER1980 you might not even know who this guy is… No, we’re not talking NBA legend«Wilt Chamberlain» or even former British Prime Minister«Neville Chamberlain». One was nicknamed«The Stilt» and the other known for his«stiff upper lip». Oh, nvm. So, who is Richard Chamberlain? Well, for those born BEFORE1980 you might already know… A Hollywood legend best known as «Dr. Kildare» in the popular 1960’s television series. He was also«the» leading man in all the most popular 1980’s mini-series dramas of the time, like«Shōgun»(James Clavell) and«The Thorn Birds». So, why a bench in Hawaii? Richard Chamberlain has always loved Hawaii. And even though he was born in Beverly Hills, California, he still considers Hawaii home, too. He lived«officially» in Hawaii from 1986 – 2010. During that time he acted in the ill-fated series, «Island Son» which only lasted for 19 episodes. I guess his role as «Dr. Daniel Kulani» just wasn’t appealing enough. Almost as bad as «Emma Stone» playing a part-Hawaiian role? Maybe? Urban rumors circulated recently that he passed away quietly in his sleep, but in reality he’s very much alive and well and in a relationship with his lifetime partner. No, silly, not with«Dr. Zhivago»… Anyways, his love for Hawaii is why this bench exists… I won’t exactly say where it’s located because the joy is finding it on your own! However, I’ll be kind enough to say it’s on Magic Island in Honolulu. More hints can be seen in my pics… Frankly, I had nooooo ideal such a cool thing even existed until after a day of surfing… I sat down on a bench… Enjoying a beautiful view, while eating my spam musubi. Then I noticed a plaque! Yup… «The Richard Chamberlain Bench!» WOW! I’m sitting on «Dr. Kildare!» OVERALLGRADE: 4.9-STARS! UnilocalREVIEW #460/500
