My family recently had our basement finished by Matrix Basement Systems of New England. The quality of the finished product is fantastic and I recommend this company to others. See below for my detailed review. Positives: Michael Dubois, who runs the New England business, seems to be a man with integrity. Unfortunately there are many contractors who care little about the quality of their work, but Mike is committed to getting things done the right way, with quality in mind. All of the materials used and the final finish were of high quality. The main crew who finished the work, Steve Taratuta and Adam Bibeault, were outstanding. They communicated each phase of their work clearly, took pride in their work, and were very efficient in their approach. It was a pleasure to have them working in my home. I recommend that future Matrix clients ask whether Steve and Adam are available for their project. Likewise all of the specialists(plumbing, electrical) that Mike and his project manager, John, brought in were knowledgeable and highly skilled at what they do. At the end of the project, John took extra care to make sure we were satisfied with the last details. Negatives: The sales process was a mess. The salesperson was pushing for us to sign a contract for our very large project during our first visit. I have heard that the company is looking to improve on this front. We had thoroughly researched Martix online before booking a sales appointment. We watched youtube videos on the nature of the waterproof /moldproof wall panels and the installation process. We read reviews on the original Chicago business(started prior to the New England business) and noted the company was featured in some prominent articles in a very positive light. So we decided to go ahead and sign up during the first sales visit. However, the sales person led us to believe(and wrote in our contract) that the project would be completed in 3 weeks. In reality, the project took over 2 months and later on Mike said it should have been quoted as such given that we have a 1300 sq ft basement. In addition, the salesperson filled out a checkbox type of contract, giving us limited visibility into whether he actually included everything he promised. I would recommend that Matrix provide clients with a more detailed set of specifications for each project, so both parties are completely aware of what’s included. We learned that the salesperson was since let go from the company. I think more people would be eager to hire the company without a high pressure sales pitch. In the end, Mike stood by what was promised, which is why I still recommend Matrix. Project initiation was slower than we expected. Matrix sent over an architect to review our basement and draw out plans. Unfortunately the architect made mistakes in measurements and there were inaccuracies in her design. I ended up taking some measurements of my own to share with Matrix. The architect is no longer with the company. The original installation crew that worked on our project was doing a decent job. But they were unusually slow(from what I later heard) and had some quality issues. They were also let go during the project. Summary While there were some negatives, the company is clearly learning from issues and working on improvements. In our experience with Matrix, the majority of the people who worked on our basement were hardworking, experienced professionals who got the job done right. We are extremely satisfied with the final outcome of the project and we recommend Matrix Basement Systems of New England to others.
