The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars is that they only accept cash, no debit/credit cards. The staff is amazing and friendly and the food is yummy. Great prices too.

Best bbq in the world! My family has been going there for 20 years and we always look forward to our trips to town. The staff is also wonderful. I wish they were open on the weekends!

Eastern North Carolina BBQ at its best. I grew up on the stuff and K & L is the only place to get it in this area. there are other restaurants advertised Carolina BBQ. it’s false advertising. if you need a piece of home, this is the place to go. ignore the old building, the humorous license plates, and focus on the ambiance. you feel just like you were in Wilson NC.

Hopewell restaurants have gone downhill in recent yrs. That includes K&L! The friends of K&L are the only ones that give it high marks & the only rest like it for miles. the BBQ has small hard bits of meat which can be unpleasant for some! The veggies are good but when you get takeout you pay same $ for smaller portions! Also, veggies very tasty until they get low and add a can of fresh to stretch it out. Try to get something where they can’t short you! You have to have a good set of choppers for the onion rings. I hear they’re tasty. Coating too hard for me. Sometimes soup specials(only in winter) are too thick & pasty and they run out too soon. The owners family(husband & daughter) stands around at front with grumpy looks on their faces. They get irritated if you ask for something xtra, or refuse it! They run out of specials fast, so get there early!

After visiting plantations we decided to drive a bit for a bite. Found K and L on Unilocal and asked at a local gas station who confirmed it was a great place. We arrived about 4pm, not very busy but met with friendly smiles. The food and service was outstanding!!! The chopped BBQ beef was exceptional, the bbq chicken half was incredible, the bbq pork sand which fantastic… the kids loved the burger, club, and kids shrimp. If your lucky to be there on a day they have fried green tomatoes … Order 2 – 3!!! Flippen wonderful!!! We never order dessert., I’m so glad I splurged on the carmel cream cake… yum!!! Our waitress’ were friendly, helpful and just perfect! Pittsburgh has never seen a BBQ place like this… if it did we would be there every week! If your within an hour… GO’

The best food the best prices and the best atmosphere. The coleslaw is the best I’ve ever had the onion rings are homemade and delicious any dinner you order will be sure to satisfy your stomach and your pocket. And for desert I recommend the black berry cobbler it’s so delicious. The waitress are friendly and fast. The décor is also fun me and my family love to look at all the old license plates on walls and all the funny signs. K & L is a must try spot.

Some of the best BBQ around in my opinion. This place has that small town diner feel. They don’t accept credit cards so bring cash, but there is an atm on site in case you forget. The service is fast and friendly and the food is delicious and comes at a reasonable price. The barbecue baked beans are my favorite!

We ate lunch here and it has that old diner feel. They DONOT take credit cards or checks. CASHONLY! The staff was very friendly and they know the menu. I just didn’t care for their style of BBQ. The ribs tasted like they had been boiled and not smoked. Other then that it was okay and will do in a pinch when I have cash.

Amazing home cooked food. Chicken and dumplings are freaking incredible. Minced pork BBQ, delicious. They have great cole slaw as well. Try a whole apple pie! Overall this place is great’

I thought it was pretty bad. Not to sound rude or condescending, but I get the feeling the good reviewers have never been to a good barbeque restaurant. Frankly, the meat tasted like it was cooked in an oven and not smoked. Since it is a «family» restaurant they don’t sell beer. It was not inexpensive either. Just skip it…
