The crispy asparagus is fantastic. Spicy, crunchy and salty. So good. The happy family is $ 15 and tastes awful! The sauce is too thick. My brother had the sweet and sour chicken. He liked it. I also didn’t like that by choosing fried rice, I was being charged $ 2 extra. That felt like a big rip off.

One word: Delicious! We had cheese crab puff, 3.6.9. sizzling plate(flambé’) and happy family, everything was really really good. I will come back for sure :)

Perhaps the most flavorful General Tso’s Chicken anywhere in or near medical center. The hot and sour soup that came with the lunch special was surprisingly good with nice mix of ingredients and more complex taste than the typical cheap soup I get at other Chinese take out places around here. Definitely will try again.

The service was awesome, the food was delicious and fresh. I had pork lo mein, my daughter had pineapple chicken which was so good. Will definitely come back when I’m in Houston

I had an amazing spicy curry chicken, while my husband had the sweet sesame chicken. The curry flavor was a light but it was overshadowed by the chili in it. I loved how spicy it was. My husband’s sesame chicken was good, not too sweet but not too bland either. The only draw back was the tiny bowls of steamed rice. Honestly, rice isn’t that expensive, why hold back? So we ended spending an extra $ 2.00 for another tiny rice bowl.

Ordered take out a few nights ago from this place. We ordered chicken lo-mein(not that good — pass), orange beef(decent) and garlic broccoli(decent). The highlight was that the meal add-on came with delicious soup and some fried rolls. Now, I love spring rolls with an unhealthy passion so I guess I’m biased, and we had been moving all day so the first bite of anything is bound to taste amazing, but they were really good. I also liked the hot and sour soup and my husband was happy with his wonton soup. One note: I called 3 times before someone picked up the phone so it might be best just to go vs calling to order.

We had lunch here. Jody had the Wonton Soup, Large Bowl, which he dearly loves along with the sweet and sour pork. Both are his faves. I had the Hot and Sour Soup and Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, extra spicy. Our lunch was served by an impeccable waiter with two iced teas. A wonderful visit yet again. Next time, I will have to splurge with the fried asparagus!

We had a trial session for dinner… Fried asparagus: great. You should try. Beef sticks: good, but edges were little burned, so was little disappointing. Still taste good. Edamame: very good, but there are better options in Houston. Lo main: great, very tasty. Steamed dumpling: not too bad, but you will not lose much if you do not order. Service: They do not smile much, but they are very efficient.

What Chinese delivery should be! This is one of our favorite take-out options for Chinese food in Houston. It always arrives hot and fresh, and the portions are huge! The drivers & restaurant staff are friendly, willing to make modifications to the dishes based on your taste. A few of the best items we’ve had are listed below. We have never eaten at the restaurant itself, but I’m sure it’s just as good if you are in the area and looking for an easy, local Chinese spot. Edamame Soft Spring Rolls Miso Soup or Egg Drop Soup(others are good too, but these have the most flavor) Shrimp with Broccoli(I usually get the sauce on the side b/c it can be heavy) Pepper Steak(spicy!) Chicken Fried Rice Entrée(better than most, not too salty) Cheers!

We ordered delivery from here today and will definitely be ordering again in the near future. Four of us got 4 entrees and did the family dinner special for each, so we got choice of soup, an egg roll, and 2 crab puffs. Delivery took about an hour and the food was the perfect temperature when it got here. Good value, about $ 20pp after tip. We got: Dragon & Phoenix(5⁄5): Amazingly amazing. The generous amount of incredibly delicious sauce was amazing. We ate every drop of sauce. If you don’t know what to order GETTHIS. General Tso’s Chicken(4.5÷5): Only slightly less than perfect due to insufficient spiciness to satisfy me. Again, lots of delicious sauce. Szechuan Chicken(2⁄5): Not a lot of sauce and what little sauce it had just wasn’t very good. Chicken & Broccoli(1⁄5): No flavor. I guess on the bright side this must be somewhat healthy. We didn’t even order the diet version. Worth noting that the entrees we enjoyed were listed under chef specials and entrees we did not were not listed there… Life pro tip: ALWAYS order chef specials at Chinese food places! Side items: Fried rice(3⁄5): standard, nothing special but still good. Egg rolls(3⁄5): again, standard, comes with tasty sweet and sour sauce. Hot & sour soup(2⁄5): was a let down for me. =\ missing the necessary sour. Wontons(2⁄5): not very good IMO. Crab puffs(4⁄5): delicious; are crab puffs ever anything but? Next time I’ll get a large order of these.

Some friends and I were in the mood for Chinese and we were in the midtown area and found this place off westheimer through Unilocal review recommendations. I’ll add that the food here is great. And the service was also quite nice. A sweet hole in the wall gem for Chinese food. Have gone a few more times and even did an order out go. And myself and my other friends are still quite happy and impressed with the food and service. Definitely recommend this place to lots of people I run into looking for good Chinese in midtown/Montrose area.

Food is great – it’s pretty much what you’d expect for good, greasy, Americanized Chinese food. It’s cooked well, smells great, and the portions are huge. I’m particular to the noodle dishes, and the crispy spicy asparagus is the best thing ever. Everyone’s singing its praises on here, so I won’t be the first, but also def not the last. The asparagus is a must. The service is where I’ll digress. The waiters/hosts are super nice and attentive. However, the lady that’s at the back counter is not the nicest. I’ve dined in and picked up food to-go several times, and she’s always rude. Doesn’t say hello, looks frustrated if you ask a question, and annoyed when placing an order with her. I’m sorry if I’m bothering you for you do your job! I’m not sure if she’s a manager or the owner, but with that attitude, she needs to check her job description – you work in the service industry, how bout a bit of good customer service?

Last weekend after I was done assembling most of the furniture for my apartment I had no energy to do anything and all I wanted to do was enjoy the sweet and sour chicken doused in the sweet and sour sauce that Peter H. had described in his review. Unfortunately, it just came on the side and I was not asked whether I would like the sauce on the chicken or on the side. Let me start by describing the restaurant from the moment you start looking for the restaurant itself. It is located in between Spec’s and the Emergency Center in the Half Price Books lot. Upon entering you get the feeling that you have been transported back to the days of Mad Men when places like this were probably the precursor to the McDonald’s chicken nugget. There was a total of three of us. My hot and sour soup came with the crunchy fried stuff that you put on top and it was basically what a human needs after assembling and moving furniture all day. We also had the fried rice and the broccoli beef. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. The only thing I would like more from them is to feed me while I am in bed on a Sunday morning while everyone else goes to Sunday funday. This place now has a special place in my heart.

OK, so I was in the midst of errands and wanted to indulge in my Americanized Chinese food craving, so I stopped here for lunch. Short version: A wonderfully calm oasis of a restaurant with exceptional service, good food at good prices with the added luster of a wine list. If you like Kam’s, you’ll LOVE3−6−9. Long version: So it was the first day of our cold weather, and I was in the mood for the typical comfort food: hot-and-sour soup, sweet-and-sour pork, and hot tea. Being in the neighborhood, I selected 3−6−9. This place has been around for years, but I’d never set foot in it(don’t ask me why). I’ve seen it from the outside when I’d go to Spec’s next door, but the lack of cars in the front of the place made me think it wasn’t that great of a restaurant. Boy, was I wrong — and in a good way! 3−6−9 is what you’d call an «upscale» Americanized Chinese bistro. Real cloth napkins, real china and silverware, soft music and a dark-paneled wood complete the experience. Low murmuring from the other diners completed the mood. Now for the food: I ordered a cup of hot tea for starters. The waiter was knowledgeable enough to ask me which type I preferred(green or jasmine). Jasmine, please. What I got was a wonderful sterling-silver teapot filled with an aromatic brew. The whole pot. Just for me. WOW. I’m in heaven now. The hot-and-sour soup was served just as I liked it: steaming hot, full of lashings of eggs, with crispy wonton chips on the side. Add some soy sauce into the soup with the wonton chips, and you’ve got nirvana in a cup. Now for the entrée: the anticipated sweet-and-sour pork. NOTE: A lot of Chinese restaurants nowadays put the sauce on the side, which is OK if you are watching your waistline. However, I grew up in the golden era of restaurants in Houston in the 1970s — and when you had sweet-and-sour whatever at a Chinese restaurant, it was DRENCHED in sauce, which is how I prefer it. What’s so wrong with that? It gives you an excuse to sop it up with an egg-roll or those crispy wontons, and it’s one less dish that needs to be washed. But I digress. The sweet-and-sour pork was utterly delish. Not only was the pork fried perfectly, but it also came with requisite accompaniments: carrots, peppers and pineapple chunks. With the dish came fried rice and a deep-fried spring roll. Both the entrée and sides came out piping hot. The waitstaff was outstanding. Very helpful to the point of obsequiousness, but not intrusive enough to be considered hovering over you. Someone should clone them and send them to other Asian restaurants in town!(I’m looking at YOU, Thien An.) The price was right for lunch: about $ 6.99 plus beverage plus tax. They also have an extensive dinner menu with a range of dinner combinations, whether you are dining as a couple, or if you have a table of 8 or 10. Nice. Also, their wine list was quite a pleasant surprise. They have a good list of both red and white wines, as well as plum wine and sake, with good vintages and brands. Each table also has a bottle of wine sitting on it, as if to invite the diner to indulge in a glass or two. With so many Asian restaurants in town, 3−6−9 deserves your attention. As I peeked at other diners’ lunch choices — General Tso’s chicken, moo goo gai pan and kung pao — I could tell that there were many standouts on this menu, just waiting to be explored. So would I go again? Only if I want to indulge nostalgically in the golden era of Americanized Chinese comfort food in Houston, and I want to savor a big pot of tea while contemplating the universe. In other words, YES. 謝謝! I’ll be back, 3−6−9! :-)

Have I really not reviewed 369!!? I mean my boyfriend and I eat here WEEKLY… And yes sadly I wish that was an overstatement. 369 is in a small plaza on westheimer near hay merchant and el real. I’ve done delivery a handful of times but now that we moved down the street(we are serious about our go to food) we get takeout way too often. If you order before 3:00 pm you can get the«lunch» price which is essentially almost the exact same as the dinner portion & I think it comes with soup! Our go to feast: General Tsos — SUPER crispy all white meat in a sticky sweet(but not crazy sweet) sauce with a few scattered pieces of crispy broccoli thrown in there. And let me say again WHITEMEAT!!! How the chicken stays crispy in those to go containers must be a well kept secret … Crispy spring rolls — there are 2 to an order so perfect if you have a date or if you need to feel better after a long day. Dip these in that sweet and sour sauce ORELSE. wonton soup: trust me… Get the big one. It’s the perfect level of saltiness and I have no idea in hell what’s in the dumplings but it’s delicious. Again though for me I just die to drink that amazing salty broth. I’ve also had lo mein and fried rice but I can’t often deviate from my standard order or I get Food FOMO. This is Americanized Chinese … And it’s awesome. Don’t give up if the phone takes some extra rings before they answer … Family run shop– they will pick up!

Oriental Bistro is a weird Chinese restaurant in Montrose that looks like it might serve a more authentic cuisine but puts out the classic Americanized options. I mean, Oriental Bistro’s one two punch is any combination of(meat)(vegetable) and(sauce), followed up by some lo mein or fried rice. I went with my roommate on a weeknight just to get out of the apartment. I ordered a sautéed broccoli dish and vegetable lo mein. If you’re looking for grimy, classic, Americanized Chinese food, this is the place you’re looking for.

3.5 –3.75 Stars Why I like this place… convenient Montrose location, great lunch menu selection and price, my general Tso’s is always on point, I have never been disappointed by any dish I have ordered, friendly staff, they don’t give me a crazy look when I ask for extra hot mustard =) oh… and their SPICYFRIEDASPARAGUS is a must try if you have never tried it before, super YUMMY! I have been trying to find a good go-to inner loop Chinese take out place and this is the best option I have found thus far. A no frills restaurant located in a bland shopping center next to Half Price Books. Smaller restaurant with decent seating. I wish I could say I have tried more off their menu but I always seem to order the same thing… guess I’m a creature of habit. Hot & sour soup is good, General Tso’s has tender hunks of white chk meat, the kung pao shrimp has some kick and crab puffs are tasty. I think their portions are a good size bc I still can get 2 meals out of just 1 lunch dish… and I eat ALOT.
