If you want something hotter than the red sauce served, ask for the hot stuff they keep behind the counter, under the pass thru. HOT!!! No that the food is not good without it. I’ve never been disappointed in the past 25 years.

It’s decent food. I had the gen joes chicken(aka General Tso). It was okay. Not bad but not great… a little too sweet.

No bueno. Not good at all. I really didn’t like anything. Where to start. I ordered Cheese wontons, the combo plate of general chicken and sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. NOTHING was good. The rice was very bland and had NO taste to it. Even when I tried to put soy sauce on it it didn’t help at all. I was mad they only gave me one packet. Usually I might have to put half a packet on my rice but a WHOLEPACKET is terrible and it still didnt give it any taste. Then the sweet and sour chicken was VERYDRY!!! The sauce was suppose to be sweet but it really wasn’t. It was very odd. I tried to soak my chicken in it to make it sweet and it still didn’t work. The general chicken was sweet and had no kind of spice at all. NONE. The bad thing about it was that was the best thing on the plate. Lastly the poor poor cheese wontons. What can I say. All breading and a spot of cream cheese. It was hard to bite and chew. It wasn’t the usual shape it was really flat. As I said barely any cream cheese. I love CHinese but I can go to a buffet and it will be better than this. Maybe next time I will just stick to Timmy Chans. They never fail me. The only pro is that they gave a lot and it is cheap

This place is not as bad as people make it out to be. Then again, I’ve only tried the shrimp fried rice. Based solely on the shrimp fried rice, I would say that it is good. It’s similar to what I’d find at any other Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant(minus the peas). They give a lot of shrimp. No, it’s not as bad as Panda Express or other mall court offerings. Based on the photos, it’s not tailored to the Chinese/Vietnamese customers either. However, they did well with their fried rice. As a college student, the large portions and cheap prices keep me coming back. It’s not easy to get affordable(and as close to authentic) food around this area. It’s a nice place to satisfy that craving.

Big portion of average Chinese food. The combo consistent of entrée, egg roll, fried rice and drink. Similar places normally include soup for the same price. In future I will go to another spot very close to here.

General Joe’s is like that friend who you hang around sometimes but you never let your partner or other friends know… When no one’s looking you decide to roll up on some fat greasy Chinese food on a college budget made perfectly for the American Palate… I always play it safe and go for the General Joe’s Chicken(Tso’s)…It’s always just like you imagine cheap Chinese…$ 6.95 with lots of sweet yet saucey deep fried chicken served with broccoli(hey this is healthy right) …I do not eat here too often(usually when the other half is away on business) but when I do… It’s been on point…

Cheap and fast Chinese food. Good portions. Don’t have big expectations with this place, it is called General Joe’s after all.

Egg rolls, and soup do not come with your meal. It is extra. They don’t give you a fortune cookie. Your plate will probably not come with steamed vegetables like most other Chinese places do. The place is set up like a fast food chain, to the point where they don’t even being your food to you. Really, I just paid extra to have soup AND a damned egg roll and you can’t even walk my food tray out to me!!! Lazy. Food was meh, the egg roll I paid extra for was good. OH! ANDTHEYDONTHAVEEGGDROPSOUP!!! Did I mention they don’t give you fortune cookies. This place plain sucks.

Probably the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Their chicken in their chicken fried rice is dry as a bone, and is entirely void of flavor. Their sweet and sour chicken is equally dry and the sauce is questionable. Not a fan at all. Will never return.

The food here is pretty decent. I think the price has been going up over the years, but that only makes sense. The service is really nice and the food comes out quick. The portions make for about 2 servings for me, and that’s the kind of food: cost ratio I like.

Nice location for a quick, fast food type of meal. Nothing phenomenal, but the shrimp vermicelli was good n’ reasonably priced at $ 8.50. The shrimp was a nice medium size.

For what it is, fast, cheap for the area, etc, it’s not horrible, but not something to get excited about. I will not try this again: Pros: fresh vegetables, adequate portion size Cons: The sauce was very thin(like they watered it down), I asked for them to make the dish spicy, and it was not at all(even the chili oil they provided at the table was mild), the food came out a little cold, and the home cleaner they use(Odoban) on the tables has a strong scent that I found very unappealing. I could not smell the food as the scent of the cleaner was overwhelming.

So I was starving hungry after getting my hair cut at(TGF thank god u didn’t fcuk up my hair). Very clean service prompt nice combo for 8 bucks. Minus points for not taking Amex. I asked for extra spicy General Tao(here it’s Joe). Guess they are scared of making it too hot, but found chili oil so I’m good. Adequate serving of food but dam I gotta talk about the eggroll what the hell do they cook it in, Jesus I burned all layers of taste buds for next several days. Btw it seems like screaming «Oh shit that’s hot«may causes others around you to stare. Go ahead eat here it’s clean and thank me later

It’s everything you should expect from a «fast» food type Chinese restaurant. I’ve eaten in here once with a co-worker but mostly just pick up on the way home. You can call it in which is way convenient. We normally go with the beef chow fun(flat rice noodle) and the singapore chicken. Both are good. The noodles are always cooked well, and the beef is never overdone. The singapore chicken is always spicy, just the way it should be. The staff is as friendly as can be expected. The guy is really nice. Overall, it’s a good spot for quick Chinese food. **for the people that complain about the décor, etc — this is how basic Asian restaurants are in China, HK, etc. …

When General Joe’s was near the University of Texas at Austin(where the G&M Steakhouse used to be), it was my go-to for inexpensive, Americanized Chinese food. So, imagine my surprise in seeing a General Joe’s while driving away from Rice University. They scratched my itch for Americanized Chinese food served quickly. More than adequate General Tso’s(except they call it General Joe’s) chicken, good rice, and a decent, deep-fried egg roll. Bonus points for a wide variety of condiments and real lemons for the tea.

Came to this General Joe’s on a weekday evening for dinner. The place was pretty dead, there was one person eating. I ordered my food to go and it was prepared very fast…(which made me wonder if they microwaved it?). They have a dinner special that comes with an entrée, fried rice, and an egg roll for about $ 8.50 which is reasonably priced. The beef and broccoli was good, unfortunately they didn’t pack the bag well and it spilled everywhere but the food was still good. There wasn’t anything special about this place, but it did fill my Chinese food craving!

This place used to be a pretty good spot to grab an inexpensive, filling lunch in 2004… Popped in a few months back and ordered the standard sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. I remember it being so much better. The chicken was so dry it was nearly jerky on the ends. They changed their sauce to some watery hummingbird feeder juice. Soda was flat. The prices have also gone up. For a couple bucks more I could’ve had lunch at Kam’s down the street. After remodeling, the place looks even sadder than it did before.
