Craving some Szechuan food especially after falling in love with cooking girl. I found this place a week ago and I’ve been dying to get some Dan Dan noodles so after a long day of work, after the gym, I decided in going for it. The decoration is decked out Asian style, it’s a good size restaurant, the hostess was very welcoming and nice. As for the waitress, she barely came around to take our order, check on us, and check us out. I asked for her opinion on what I should order and she didn’t really help at all, so I blindly chose with a bit of help with Unilocal. –Wonton Chips(3.5÷5) Crispy but a little too salty and has a little bit of spice to it. It’s a free appetizer though! –Dan Dan Noodles(5⁄5) Noodles with sauce, green onions, minced beef, and I asked for no peanuts. Small portioned, great price($ 2.99), and has full of flavor. It wasn’t bland at all, the sauce was more soupy than what I’ve had, but you can’t complain because the flavoring was on point! –Water Boiled Sliced Fish with Chili Sauce(Flounder Filet)(4⁄5) It lacked flavor and the gravy had more oil then sauce. The fish was very tender though, and it has a lot of veggies underneath with the right amount of peppers. Though it was a bit bland, after you keep eating it you can taste more of the flavor. –Mala Chengdu Wonton(1⁄5) Super oily, flavorless, and I only taste the peppers in there. The wonton dumpling had a lot of dough and very little meat. Nothing special about it. I’ve came to the conclusion that cooking girl is at the top of the top! Chuan is still pretty good and it’s closer, but I will definitely come back and try other things and order more Dan Dan Noodles! Mmmmm mmmm good!

I’m pretty snobby when it comes to Chinese food. This location serves up the best I’ve had in the United States. Yes, all of the US. Their food is mostly Sichuan cuisine. What that means is there’s certainly a lot of heat in many dishes, but it is the numbing kind rather than the straight up ghost chili pepper mouth-burning. Some of my favorite on the menu include fish filet with tofu, a special lamb dish, eggplant in garlic sauce, actually authentic kung pao chicken. Also on the menu include frog legs, rabbits, and more. All in all, the service is fast, food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable given the location. No, I’m not talking about Chinatown prices. Instead, the average entrée costs around $ 12 to $ 14. You do get an incredible amount of food, though. Anyway, I will be coming here every time I visit Houston. I might even drag some folks with me here on my trips to Austin. It’s that good.

Everytime when I go to Houston, I will always go to Chuan’s. Their food is so good that I even think about it when I’m in Chicago! I tried several dishes this time and they are all great! I like their Tian Pi duck especially but I don’t have the photo: the duck is already gone by the time I try to take a photo lol

Nice place and good customer service, however, the food was a disappointment. I ordered the braised beef with bamboo and about 75% of the«meat» was big chunks of fat. Then chewing the bits of meat was another challenge. Way too hard.

My girlfriend and I decided to try a new place when her craving for dumplings hit — and I won’t lie that I’m very happy we tried this restaurant. The décor is absolutely adorable! And everything we tried was outstanding! We had the Hot and Sour Soup, Beef and Broccoli, Mongolian Beef, and Fried Spring Rolls. Amazing and we will be back! I would have given 5 stars, however, when our waitress was needed it was hard to get her attention or have her come by. The service was wonderful and they may have not had enough servers working, but that is why the lack of a star.

Very disappointed !!! At first we walk in, we like the restaurant and it look clean. As we order the waiter didn’t understand much English, so she couldn’t suggest that much. We order a combination plate of beef, chicken, shrimp, veggies. Well it was seasoned to much and salty lots of veggies never found the beef, and 2 lives of chicken and 2 shrimp literally. Was a ripped off of $ 19.00 simple intolerable. Told the waiter to tell me if she could see the beef and she said: yes is there !!! They were some dark mushrooms instead. Told the lady in charge about it and all she responded was: I am sorry !!! What ??? I don’t think she understand the fact … Never again going back !!

As Jimming C mentioned, a decent but not remarkable Szechuan joint. Restaurant: very clean and open space. Comfortable couches as chairs. Cool lanterns décor. Food: Ordered the water boiled spicy fish. The fish is not the freshest but the cooking method is good. Overall enjoyable. Not spicy at all, a nice touch on the vegetables at the bottom of the dish. Portion is decently big. The husband and I shared the dish and that was plenty for two of us. Service: meh… but I wasn’t surprised. Overall, we would come back and may update it to 4 star because it’s super closed to our apartment.

Can one get a gluten-free lunch menu in this town? Why yes, at Chuan’s! I praised this place for hot & sour noodles in my first review. But today, I realized upon coming here that I can’t get it! I’m on this no-carb diet and normally pack lunch, but today was an exception. Enter Chuan’s and its braised beef lunch selection. Delicious hot & sour soup, perfectly seasoned(if a bit salty) braised beef and bamboo chunks with double side of veggies(in lieu of rice) and an eggroll I gave to the homeless person on my way back to the office, all for $ 9.99 + tax/tip — I’ve found my lunch spot.

they’ve got a decent Dan Dan noodle here. Kung pao chicken looks high quality but is seasoned too sweet. overall, a decent but not remarkable Szechuan joint.

Deceivingly large restaurant tucked into the corner with Spotlight Karaōke. Restaurant didn’t seem too busy on a Sunday or any other day I’ve been to. Authentic Szechuan food outside of Chinatown. In comparison to Mala Sichuan, no it’s not as good but the food is generally tasty with larger portions for lower prices. The mapo tofu tasted mostly of spice, more burning than numbing. It alarmed me so much I went away from the spice with the other dishes. The sauteed vegetables was fresh and not too oily. The cold mushrooms with black mountain pepper was crisp and garlicky. Wasn’t too big of a fan of the Japanese tofu that my sister ordered; then again who would try to order Japanese food at a Chinese restaurant? Hot and sour soup was standard. I would go back again.

I’m actually from Chengdu Sichuan, which is the place that this restaurant’s food is supposed to be like, so no, I am not just pulling things out of thin air. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant was pretty nice inside, but the parking was crowded. It’s right beside a karaōke place, so the outside can get kind of loud, but the inside is quiet. The inside of the restaurant is pretty dim(mood lighting???) and the decorations remind me of my grandma and grandpa’s house back in the countryside in Sichuan. The restrooms are clean enough and overall, the atmosphere is very nice. FOOD: In my opinion, the food was maybe 50 to 60 percent authentic. None of it tasted bad, but none was particularly outstanding. We ordered the wontons in chili sauce, water boiled fish, fried pork intestines, and the mouth watering chicken. The wontons were very good, but the sauce/soup it came in was too sour. The fish fillet was cooked wonderfully, but, in my opinion, the sauce was not spicy enough. It looked really spicy, but honestly, when you actually ate it, it lacked flavor. The fried pork intestines seemed like a lot but most of the dish was just peppers and jalapenos, so that wasn’t very good. The mouth watering chicken was pretty good and the flavor was pretty authentic. Overall, the food was bland/lacking different dimensions in flavor. A lot of it was just salty or sour. SERVICE: Eh, it was okay. Food arrived fast enough, but the check came wayyyy too late. The waitresses are pretty average, nothing particularly special.

I would give food 3 star but services and atmosphere 4 star. As a Sichuanese, I can confirm the food from this restaurant is about 60% authentic to the real Sichuan food. But that’s good enough. They need to adjust the taste to local taste buds instead of getting everyone’s mouth on fire. I tried their kung pao chicken which they made it taste like Yu Xiang instead of Kung Pao. All of their dishes came in family size, my friends enjoyed it and thought their food is pretty spicy. I really appreciate their kitchen and patient attendants willing to adjust the ingredients and created a vegan dish out of dry and spicy chong qing chicken. It came out impressively delicious. This place is family friendly and have very good vibe, it is good for people who want to try not too Americanized sichuan food.

Three words: Good ass takeout. I’ve been searching in this area for 6 months to find grade A Chinese food and haven’t had much luck. This place is tucked away in a crowded shopping center, so it can be easy to miss. But Unilocal brought me here, and I’m so glad I have finally found quality Chinese food. I wasn’t entirely adventurous with my first order– I opted for sesame chicken and fried rice. It was delicious. The chicken was crispy and the rice was perfectly cooked. The meal came out to $ 12…definitely affordable. I didn’t dine in, but the restaurant had a clean layout and I wouldn’t mind coming back for the full experience. I am not Chinese, so maybe my gauge for truly authentic food isn’t the best. I CAN definitively say this is some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in a loooong time… best in this area for sure!

I attended a meetup of the Asian dining group.5901 Westheimer looked like a little Asian town in the Galleria area. I saw karaōke, vietnamese restaurant, Asian ice cream and this Chinese restaurant. The decorations were nice. I saw a lot of Chinese pictures. I found one picture of some Chinese empress. I took a picture. It made me feel the Ramen King” in Houston. We started ordering. Shuan is supposed to specialize in Spicy Szechuan(Japanese-四川料理 Chinese– 四川菜)It is very spicy. It seemed that this restaurant had all kinds of Chinese foods such as pork, fish, chicken, beef and veggies. We got one large table with lazy susan. We ordered Dan Dan noodles. It was very good. Actually, Dan dan is a signature food of Szechuan cuisine. I am from Japan. Japanese dan dan noodles are with soup. If you would like to try Japanese dan dan noodles, please go to Tiger den. Anyway, the real dan dan noodles were spicy and no soup. Other foods were very good. We enjoyed beef, veggies, and soup. I was full. I walked around the restaurant. I met my friend’Panda”. I tool a selfie with the panda. It made my day. Thank you 谢谢. 再 见

Best thing here is the dan dan noodles. They are really good. Although their menu is very diverse and authentic, the dishes are Americanized(even the waitress said that to us). We had the«water boiled fish» which was extremely tender, but had zero spice level whatsoever even though it is swimming in red oil. Later on my husband remembered that when he had come with his parents before, the waiter asked what spice level they wanted for each dish when ordering, which our waiter did not do for us. Service was lacking as they never came to check up on us after bringing out dishes or bother to refill water.

Came here on a Saturday night for a birthday dinner for around 8 people. Out of all the surrounding restaurants, this place was the only place with absolutely no line, which says a little bit about the popularity of this place. Food was not that impressionable. Most of the dishes tasted really basic, nothing worth mentioning over. Service was quick and accommodating. I would avoid coming here if you’re looking for a good dinner… unless you’re looking for a quick seating for a big party then this place isn’t worth it.

I love eating a Chuan’s. It is one of the better Sichuan food in Houston and it is located outside Chinatown(closer to my house). The restaurant is large and the service is good. Also the prices of the food were good. They have a large menu, which includes a lot of dishes that are not spicy(like for kids or people who do not like spicy food). Typically I order the spicy chicken and the boiled spicy fish. All the dishes here spicy/non spicy have good tastes/flavor. I also really love the dan dan noodles, beef noodle soup and the lamb dish. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I’ve been here twice only when wanting some szechuan food. It’s nothing spectacular here. The only thing decent with flavor was the eggplant in garlic sauce that was served in a pot. The beef ribs w/black pepper on a sizzling plate was extremelyyyy salty, though the portion size was decent. Nothing special about the home style tofu. Their specialty fish was soaked in chili oil. Every dish had tons of chili so come here if you want to eat a lot of spicy and oily dishes. Service was horribly slow, there were only two waiters working on a Sunday night and was not even packed at dinner time. They had a little performance of a women who is dressed up and«magically» changes her mask color(probably in hopes of attracting more customers).
