My mom has been wanting to try Dacapos for a long time. Finally, we stopped by and bought a slice of carrot cake since we heard it was good. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing pastry experience and the taste did not reflect other Unilocal reviewers findings; we were really expecting it to be yummy. The carrot cake was not moist. It was«compact». It had a baking soda flavor that reminded me of my baking years for school bake sales. It really had a lingering baking soda taste. Not good. The frosting was similar to grocery store quality. With regards size, we found the slice to be very small and overpriced.

Not much to tell. Mediocre, overpriced meal. Not a place to eat. May only be good for coffee and a cookie. Disappointed.

The whole block smells like yumminess! This place is a little pricy but definitely worth every penny. They have great bacon, and great ham. I had the BLT sandwich, and it was pretty fantastic.

Best cakes in town! Absolutely love their banana split cake and their banana caramel pecan cheesecake! Can you tell I love bananas! A bit on the pricy side but so worth every bite!

I like it place so much because because of because of the design and because of the most delicious cake and because of the most beautiful cakes in Houston. I discovered it 1 year ago and I m very satisfied with it. They really sell amazing cakes for all children, parents, for all. They are very different and you really can find perfect one. Highly recommended.

Best Strawberry cream cake EVERRRR!!! I have recommended this place to all my friends, and every single one of them have fallen in love with this cake!!! The cake is light and not too sweet. Their version of buttercream on this particulate cake is called«bettercreme», which is also light. Their carrot cake is also very good! Can’t go wrong with this bakery! I also called very early in the morning, trying to call in a last minute cake order for that afternoon. They were able to accommodate me and I was so happy to get a cake so last minute!!!

It’s ridiculous how good things taste here. They are very artful when crafting their food and pastries, and it’s evident in every single, sumptuous bite. Where they really stand out above the rest is in their desserts. The brownie pecan pie is decadent and not too rich. If I could choose only one place to eat for the rest of my Houston dwelling days, it might be here.

Cute little place in the Heights. I ordered Dutch Apple pie and my husband got the chocolate pecan pie. Both were excellent. Will have to go back and try their quiche and their key lime pie. They do have sandwiches and salads. My only complaint is that they have no handicapped(accessible) parking and there is a step up to get inside(I use a wheelchair and my husband had to help me up but not everyone has that option obviously). Yet they say on their Unilocal profile that they are wheelchair accessible.

Well, I love this place. The ALT is divine for vegetarians that want a delicious and indulgent sandwich(Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato, Cheese, and a touch of mayo with fresh bread, served cold). I love a grilled cheese with Avocado and Tomato as well and they have made that for me and it was so so good! I’ve loved the few soups and quiches that I’ve had, but they seem to have meat the majority of the time, so I cannot always try them. One time I picked up a small carrot cake(day of) for my husbands birthday and, oh my gosh, it was delicious! Pretty sure all of their baked goods are.

My mom bought my baby shower cake here and it was amazing! Honestly one of the best cakes I’ve ever had. She got a vanilla cake with raspberry jam– we had 20 people and she ordered a quarter sheet– we barely had enough because people kept eating it. To add to this, my mom actually picked it up 2 days before the baby shower and it sat in our fridge but it was still amazingly moist! It’s a bit on the pricier side but you get what you pay for.

Well, this is a sad review. When I went to Dacapos for the first time 7 years ago, I thought it was charming and a great neighborhood joint. I would always order their chocolate mousse cake for parties(it has always been stellar, like OMG best cake ever stellar, but I haven’t had it in a few years, so I’m not sure about the quality now). Lately, I just feel like they have gone downhill. The past couple of times I’ve been there for lunch, it was just okay and not worth the price I paid(around $ 20 for a sandwich, drink, and piece of cake). This would be forgivable, but it has been a LONG time since I’ve ordered a dessert I actually like from there. Lately, I’ve had the Italian Cream cake, the strawberry bread pudding and the chocolate raspberry tres leches. They were all really crappy and tasted like they came from a grocery store bakery. Like, this preggo couldn’t even finish it and ended up throwing it away. Maybe hormones have affected my taste buds? I hope so. I hate saying this, but I won’t be going back for dessert anytime soon. I’ve just been disappointed too many times lately.

I had their café mocha and a lemon bar and both were divine. The lemon bar is the best I’ve had: beautiful mix of textures, and the flavor is not puckery tart, but perfectly tart, capturing the goodness of the lemon without overpowering with sour. If you are new to lemon bars, try theirs!

We were having a get together of a book group from years ago. Only four of us remain. With my wife there were five in the group. This place was recommended by one of the group who lives nearby. We were from about as far as you can get and still be in Houston. So when the traffic maps showed bad situations on route we left early, getting us there about 20 minutes before they opened. We were sitting outside in the heat and one of the service people invited us to wait inside until they began serving. All of the serving people were friendly and accommodating. It’s not clear this place can accommodate a group larger than six or seven. You order at the counter and they bring it. I got the egg salad sandwich with a side of potato salad — both were excellent. My wife got the Mexican quiche and lentil soup. She said the soup was good but the quiche lacked flavor. I failed to ask others how they liked their meal but the member from nearby eats here often so I’m sure she enjoyed her vegetarian sandwich. I had intended to have one of their lauded deserts but the meal was too much. ___ We’ve Eaten Out Every Meal for more than 25 years

I went to Dacapo’s for a cup of coffee and their famous pastries and I was pleasantly surprised. The place is small, but it’s cozy and the staff is friendly. It has an intimate atmosphere and the food was superb. I ordered a vanilla latte with the soup of the day which was Italian chicken noodle and a raspberry tres leches for dessert. The coffee was okay, not too strong, but I have had worse. Now the soup was delicious, it was creamy and not too salty! Perfect for that rainy day, but the real winner was the tres leches! The raspberry tres leches was a delicacy. I have had tres leches before, but this was beyond my expectations. It was soft, but not too mushy, like it should be! It had a layer of raspberry in between that gave it just the right balance. It was topped with fruits and nuts and drizzled with raspberry sauce. Delicious Delicious Delicious! Definitely recommend this place, especially for dessert ;)

This is my go-to bakery for every occasion cakes, and I HIGHLY recommend you give them a try. I promise you won’t regret it. I’ve ordered the Banana Split Cake several times and most recently the Strawberry Cream Cake for my sister’s baby sprinkle and I kid you not, every single person who had a slice of these wondrous creations RAVED about how moist and delicious they were. As soon as the first bite was taken, my friends and family were«mmmm-ing» and«ohhhh-ing» in galore! I wanted my sister’s cake to be extra special for her and was soooo over the moon pleased with how the decoration turned out. I wanted the face of the cake to look like the invitation, and the decorator not only did it justice but exceeded my expectations! Everyone at the shower had to know where I got the cake from, and I was happy to oblige the information. I have yet to try the food, but judging from the reaction from the cakes, I’m looking forward to having breakfast or lunch at Dacapo’s one day soon!!!

Good location. Terrible food. I had the quiche and part of the skin was burned. It was really depressing. This place is struggling. The staff talk to all the customers, but that’s not enough to keep them coming, especially when they want food. Personality does not match presentation. This place might likely be a front. It’s depressing and the owners know it. They need a real chef in the kitchen. The location is kind of cool, and that’s stretching it. You have to be old with poor taste buds to enjoy this place and on the day I went, it was full of old people. Go figure.

I am shocked that I haven’t reviewed Dacapo’s yet! It has been my haunt all summer long. The Set-up: Order and pay at the front counter. There are menus suspended from the ceiling listing all of the food and dessert options along with cases and cases full of baked treats. Seating: There are about a dozen tables/booths in the restaurant. Most are 4-tops, but some are 2-tops Service: The women working behind the counter are soooo nice! The food comes out quickly(I’d say never more than 5 – 10 minutes of a wait even with all the tables full). They bring you your utensils and napkins, but there is also some kind of tea bar to the right of the counter. Vibe: You see a lot of smaller groups of all ages in here really enjoying discussion. There are usually a few stray readers(my group!) along with some business-type on lunch break. It’s relaxed and not noisy even when it is full. Menu: Dacapo’s has sandwiches, salads, soups, and most importantly, QUICHE! I have had several of their salads(Adam & Eve and the Spinach Salad are my favorites), the chicken salad sandwich, and many quiches. The quiche selection varies day to day, but they have all been great – spinach and mushroom, Mexican, bacon and cheese! I love the food because it is clearly all made fresh and is filling without being heavy. Beverages: They have all the typical restaurant offerings plus coffee and espresso options. I am a freak and always want coffee extra hot and they have always been so accommodating! Baked Goods(THEMOSTIMPORTANT!): This is where they really shine. I have probably had 10 peanut butter cup cookies from Dacapo’s in the last two months. Their cookies are huge, rich, and amazing. One of my friends got a brownie and it was great too. I’ve seen people eating cake and raving over the slices. You can order cakes ahead of time for special occasions, and I am waiting for an excuse to do this! Bottom line: Great, quiet environment; fast, delicious food; incredible baked goods! If you have a lazy afternoon, you should stop in for coffee and some of the best dessert in the Heights area!
