This is the best sandwiches in Houston! There are 20+ sandwiches on the menu each inspired by a different part of the world. I’m trying to eat them all but they keep adding more! I highly recommend this place. The Buenos Aires and the Mexico city are two of my favorites so far.

Great sandwiches. Great service. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars… It’s a little pricey. Other than that it was top notch.

We heard about this place on the travel channel that rated their sandwiches as one of the best sandwich shops in the U.S. I then had a taste for a sandwich and found them not far from downtown. At first glance, looks like a cute Mexican establishment, then when you enter you’re surprised how small and unique it is. The menu consists of over 20 different sandwiches based on various countries the owner had visited. I had the New Delhi and My date had the Jerusalem, both were amazing! The bread was lightly crispy on the outside and soft inside, very light. The spices and flavor were unique, not overpowering, and delicious! If ever in Houston, definitely try this tiny shop as these were the best sandwiches I’ve ever had!

The sandwich was excellent! The bread was crusty and fresh. The filing was zesty and innovative. Service was fast and super-friendly. The sofa seating made it a comfy place to hang out with friends.

If you care about ambience this may not be the place for you. It’s a converted gas station and it had a tire smell to it. But the sandwiches were tasty. My husband got the Mexico City which was just ok. He liked mine better: the San Diego. Service was excellent.

Had the San Diego and it was delicious. Hubby had the Jerusalem and he also liked his. However, the atmosphere was dead and there was a weird smell inside. We decided it’s better to do take-out instead.

I read a few reviews on Unilocal explaining that this place was on the Travel Channel for«Food Paradise». So I googled the episode and watched them talk about the international sandwiches and what not. It highlighted their best sandwich, the San Diego, or whales vagina because that’s how it made me feel. Super heavy, not very pleasurable because it was too big and filled with some worn out meat. It actually wasn’t that terrible but I’ll probably never go back. I live right down the street just for a reference point in how little effort it would actually take me to go back and get a cheap lunch.

Seriously the best sandwiches I have ever had! Not only are they creative but they are inspired from places all over the world. It is like traveling out of the country without leaving the city. They need more locations! Oh, and they have all kinds of drinks too including alcohol. The ambiance is great. I suggest the Venice if you are feeling like some carbs. If not, the Mexico City is the bomb. The Jerusalem is really good too(it was featured on the Travel Channel) it has feta on it I think giving it a really great twist on what you might expect from a sandwich.

Still awesome. Had the San Diego and the Mexico City. We both thought they were awesome. Owner super nice and fast service. Went at noon on a Saturday and was great. Great Jazz music playing.

Saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and was really excited to try it. Very disappointed. The bread was good, but what was inside was just ok. I had the San Diego and by bf had the Venice. Our sandwiches definitely did not look like what was served on the show, very stingy on the portions. We really weren’t sure if they were open until we tried the door. Not well lit inside and the front of the place is covered with junk and trash. No wonder we were the only customers, the whole side facing the busiest street looked so trashy. We sat on the patio and tucked in the corner was an gross looking empty hot tub. So weird.

My husband and I have been to this place a few times, and we always leave satisfied. The sandwiches offer a diverse variety of international tastes, and the owner and employees are friendly and welcoming. Although there are small décor items that could be tweaked and cleaned up(hence 4 not 5 stars), the colorful décor and warm smells make me reminisce of the sandwich shops I frequented in Mexico as a child. As far as great quality food for a low price I would absolutely recommend this place. Particular favorites include the San Diego, Durango, and Mexico City.

Tiny place, not the best atmosphere. But… Full bar and definitely 5 star sandwiches. Tried the San Diego with some chips and a cool beer and it was excellent. Will go back for sure. Perfect for a quick lunch, or chillin at the outdoor patio with a drink.

This was my second visit to Juan Mon’s. The first time I had the Jerusalem(chicken schwarma) and this time the Acapulco(beef). Both times the bread was perfect soft on the inside toasty outside. The meat was fresh, cooked to order and tender. The hardest part of the experience is choosing a sandwich! We were particularly pleased to enjoy some Gerry Mulligan on the patio – classy place all around.

I was a bit nervous to try this place after reading all of the reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised. I had the San Diego sandwich and it was reallyyy flavorful and fresh! The bread was fresh too and roasted perfectly for the sandwich and it had just enough spiciness to it(for me. My boyfriend added some green spicy sauce they had in a bottle and that was very tasty too, I just didn’t need more heat). The restaurant is nothing fancy but it has it’s charm! They play great music in my opinion. Up beat enough for lunch but not like you’re at a club or anything, and not too loud either. While I had great service, I could see that there were a few discrepancies in orders of people around me(at least 2) and those guests were getting quite frustrated. The food takes probably 10 minutes to come out, which is fine because the food is great and fresh, but if it takes that long and the order is wrong, id be upset too. All in all, I’ll be coming back for lunch!

Expensive for sub sandwiches that are made with such inconsistency and commonplace ingredients. I agree with another Unilocaler that even the sandwiches that have technically yummy ingredients, all the flavors just didn’t «pull together». Been here 4ish times– experiences consisted of a rude girl, saw her pic on the wall w owner, I’m guessing the owner’s sister or something, sandwich taking 15 minutes to make when I was the only customer inside, and 2 times the sandwiches were missing 2 or more ingredients and I asked about it, was told the menu has changed with the kitchen but not on the one you read to order! What tha??? You DONT get what you pay for here. One redeeming quality– the pina and watermelon sodas are delicious when they aren’t skimping on the fruit juice part.

Sandwiches: ok, nothing special. Mine was 70% bread, 30% fillings. Felt a little stiffed. I got the #7. My husband said his #14 was just ok, but his was filled a bit more. Would have had better value at Subway since they were $ 6 a pop. Service: Pretty poor. Despite being the only customers there, we waited 5 mins to get the attention of the guy behind the counter and it was clear he didn’t speak English very well. He also refused to accept our check in Unilocal deal — yes, it’s only 5% off, but really? Bad business. Atmosphere: Depressing and sad. A sandwich place that’s trying to be a bar and a dance place(they have DJ equipment out). Have you ever been to a bar during the day? That’s what it feels like. It’s generally run down, décor is broken, paint is peeling. While this can sometimes be written off as being charming and having character, it doesn’t work here. All in all, wouldn’t return.

A friend and I stopped by in the late afternoon and there was a good number of young guys sitting outside, so I felt encouraged to try the famous sandwiches. I had the Paris sandwich(ham, bacon, letters, tomatoes), and my friend had the Cuernavaca(grilled chicken). Neither was good enough to come back for. The Paris sandwich was very salty and simple. The Cuernavaca was decidedly better, but it wasn’t great either. I don’t know what’s all the hype about, but I was very disappointed.

I came here for lunch on a Saturday and tried the Acapulco sandwich with a homemade pineapple soda. Sadly, it did not impress. The soda was super watered down, but otherwise the flavor was good. The Acapulco had a lot of delicious toppings… avocado, beans, oaxaca cheese, sour cream, green salsa, pico… but they weren’t pulled together, oddly enough. The meat was cut in so many uneven pieces; some really big and chewy, others tiny. It just lacked consistency. I will say the bread was a lot better than it looked though. It wouldn’t be my suggestion to come back, but if I did, I’d try the San Diego instead. P. S. Parking lot is tiny and people can park behind you.

A check-in here made my Unilocal Elite friends wonder, WTH? But, Dad saw it on the Travel Channel, and it was all he could talk about. «C’mon — you’re a Unilocaler. Be adventurous!» Ok, so he through that card down, and this visit was a done deal. We got the San Diego and Jerusalem, and honestly they were decent. The San Diego was spicy goodness with an interesting toss in of fried red potatoes which give a savory aftertaste. The Jerusalem was largely unremarkable save for the feta, which gives it a hint of flavor. The bread was fresh, and the toppings were sufficient in terms of quantity. We tried the homemade sodas: limeade and pineapple. I preferred the pineapple even though it didn’t go with what I ate. The limeade packed quite the flavor profile and probably would have matched with the spiceness of the San Diego. Also, they boast chips from a bunch of different countries! They ran out of the advertised cookies and wheat bread. The service was extremely slow on a Friday afternoon. The ordering is what took forever because this guy doubles as the soda mixer, server, busser… I was ravenously hungry, and so this 15 minute wait in line felt like torture. The experience is like something out of Jamaica or Mexico — brightly painted walls; loud, trendy music; travel photos of the owner in each of the different sandwich namesake cities; a DJ booth. The wiring could have been done in Thailand — it looked so unsafe! Tripping hazards and exposed electrical strips… The food was decent enough. The service was friendly. I wouldn’t come here everyday, but I wouldn’t mind stopping by every now and then. If you like traveling on a smaller budget, you will appreciate this place a lot. The owner seems like the kind of guy you wouldn’t mind taking a trip with.
