These kolaches are fantastic! The fresh made dough is reminiscent of Piroshky Piroshky in Seattle. It is gooey on the inside, flaky on the outside, and it doesn’t have any of that sweetness you get from most other places. You can choose from sweet or savory. Since I am a savory breakfast person, I have tried the ranchero, the bacon egg and cheese, and the sausage, jalapeño cheese. They are all delicious! They source local which is cool. You can even get more exotic fillings like venison. There are also vegetarian options. This is a one of a kind shop that is worth checking out! Parking can be tough. And they sometime run out of items if you go too late. But give it a try.

This nice little shop keeps the dream alive for Texas kolaches. Before I thought they were just overpriced, unexceptional stuffed dinner rolls or pigs-in-a-blankets(thanks Kolache Factory). But man was I proven wrong. The kolaches here are mindblowingly good! It’s all about their amazing dough, which becomes this ultra fluffy, semi-sweet bread that strikes the perfect balance between soft and chewy. A world of difference from the other kolaches places I’ve tried. Stuffed inside are your standard sausage/cheese/fruit fillings, but also a few unique ones sourced from local businesses. My favorite was the Kiolbassa sausage & cheese($ 3), which houses a large, savory, and juicy sausage in the center. This was the first kolache I tried, the gateway kolache that got me hooked. So much better than your average pigs-in-a-blanket. It’s a bit pricey but totally worth it for the quality. I also liked the blueberry kolache($ 1.50). Just look at the photo… it’s glorious. In the middle there’s a thick, creamy, blueberry filling that’d satisfy any sweet tooth. It was just a bit too rich for me though, so I had to let some of the jam drip off. The sweet-filled kolaches all cost the same and have the best value in my opinion. I’d skip the spinach/egg/cheese kolache($ 2.30), which had lots of egg inside but barely any spinach. Good, but not as impressive as the others. I’ll definitely be back, because this seems like THE place to be for kolaches. So good that even Travel Channel was here when I first visited, filming for the Houston episode of Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations. Nothing like an Andrew Zimmern endorsement in front a green screen, right?! I’ve got a feeling there’ll be a whole lot more people around here soon.

In my book, this is the only place for kolaches in Houston. I’m well traveled through the hill country, and somehow this place has dough that beats the 15 other bakeries I’ve visited over the years.

Amazing kolaches… my favorite is klobasa sausage/cheese/japs and I’m not a big fan of sausage or to much spice but this kolache has the perfect amount of both its absolutely amazing… the cream cheese and cottage cheese kolaches are super yummy also… can’t go wrong with any of them… oh and are good re-warmed at home for breakfast the next day…

What a sweet little place, with an incredible selection of kolaches. The sausage is made in Texas, the bread is yeasty and warms up well, and the simplicity of this place makes me happy. You won’t find a billion flavored coffees, only one, in two sizes, but let’s face it — you didn’t come here for the coffee.

These were truly the most delicious kolaches I have had. The bread is sweet, and tastes like homemade rolls that mom would make for Sunday dinner. The price is great too!

I lived in Houston 20+ years ago, and just moved back here earlier this year. I realized this morning that I have not yet had any kolache since my return, and that my young children have never had kolache. Horrors! We needed to go to the Costco across the street, so we decided to give this place a try for their kolache introduction. We couldn’t have chosen a better place! The yeasty dough was absolutely perfect, and they have a great mix of savory and sweet. The venison sausage, jalapeño, and cheese was the standout favorite, but the bacon was very good, too(and a smaller size, which was perfect for the kids’ smaller appetites). The children chose Nutella kolache for their dessert, which was pretty good, but my lemon one was a knockout.

We stopped at the Kolache Shoppe after getting our $ 30 manicures at the asian shop next door. This bakery was a very cute, small store with three main display cases. There are a few tables and chairs both inside and outside for seating. Kolaches are apparently a staple of Houston, so I decided to try one at this location. Delicious! I ordered one of every kind including venison, breakfast sausage/egg, hot dog, bacon, beef, pork. my favorite was the breakfast sausage/egg. I didn’t realize they were filled with a large amount of cheese but nonetheless they were very tasty. I’ll be back again for a breakfast sausage/egg kolache!

I’ve been going to the Kolache Shoppe for over 40 years. This family-owned business has always had superior product for a great price. I love the fruit ones — peach is my favorite, the sausage kolaches are so yummy and the cheese kolaches are worth the drive from Sugar Land. My only complaint is that there is a tough time parking. But that’s not under the control of the store. Love these and wish they would open one in Sugar Land!

These are good kolaches. We tried 3, and the venison, jalapeño, cheese was definitely the best. Second place went to the kielbasa and cheese. The staff was quick and friendly; plus, the prices are good. Bottom Line: I’ll be back for the excellent venison, jalapeño, cheese kolache.

I hadn’t been to Kolache Shoppe in a few years and was not sure I was in the right place when I walked in and saw the complete remodel. Very cool looking place. Good coffee and amazing Kolaches. Looking forward to going back there again and stuffing my face. Friendly people, as well.

Kolaches are not merely a breakfast item. They are a Czech-born Houston staple, held sacred by true Texans. I thought my extensive hours of hands-on Shipley’s «research» deemed me a kolache expert… until I stepped into the Kolache Shoppe. If you think kolaches are just dazed and confused hotdogs, then think again. The Kolache Shoppe has mastered their yeast dough — risen three times to create a delicately soft melt-in-your-mouth treat. They’ve teamed up with some great local players to create impeccable fillings and toppings for their unique kolaches. Goat’s milk from Blue Heron to make the cajeta. Slow-smoked prime brisket from Grateful Bread. Lemons from Just Pure Flavors to make a tart, creamy lemon custard. Boudin brought in from Hebert’s Specialty meats, just four minutes down the road. They’ve done more successful collaborations than Lil Wayne. Of the savory, my favorites are… — The Kiolbassa Sausage and Cheese… because if you don’t love a sausage and cheese kolache, then you’re not from Houston. If you like spice, go for the Sausage, Jalapeño & Cheese kolache. — The Ham and Swiss Cheese… stuffed with chopped ham and oozing with swiss. Another mastered classic. — The Boudin Kolache… The boudin from Hebert’s is great on its own; encase it in pillowy soft dough, and you’ll never pick up those ol’ Saltine crackers again. And no meal is complete without dessert… not even breakfast. — Bourbon Cajeta… ah, yet another way to take your liquor in the morning. No, but seriously, this stuff is sickly sweet, but the notes of goat’s milk and bourbon kept drawing me in. This one’s for those with a serious sweet tooth — Lemon Cream OR any kolache topped with tart fruit… Honestly, I only put this because the Bourbon Cajeta needs some Yin for its Yang. Pair the super sweet with any of the tangy, and you’ll be double fisting these suckers like it’s Spring Break 2005. Now, I’m not saying their products are flawless. I was not crazy about the Chorizo and Egg kolache. The eggs were a bit overdone and the chorizo lacked spice. Aside from that, the Kolache Shoppe has left a lasting impression on me(and my waistline). I am determined to earn the status of Kolache Sage that I know can only be gained by frequenting this glorious lil shoppe. And that’s a task I’m happily and gluttonously ready to take on.

Was in a kolache mood today, found this place because I was in the area. I got a lemon and a venison sausage and cheese, both were excellent. Prices were high and the parking in this strip center SUCKS! Every store has a parking sign in front of their business, specifying which store you must go to if you park in that spot. This place has one spot! There is a row of parking along the street, all spots are up for grabs by anyone, but they were all full. Mostly by staff of all the stores I’m guessing.

Absolutely amazing. This place should set the standard for all other kolaches. Their bread has a hint of sweetness to it and is nice and fluffy without being overcooked. And they’re huge. They had some pretty interesting offerings I hadn’t seen elsewhere — boudin, venison and jalepeno and brisket. The Shoppe employees are super nice and helpful. I’ve found my new favorite in town.

The buzz for this place is well-earned. I think they’re the best kolaches I’ve had in Houston. On my first visit, I had a klobasa, cheese and jalepeno kolache that was still hot from the oven, and it was divine: juicy sausage, just enough spice, and — the main event — dough that is very rich and not too sweet. I also had a dulce de leche kolache. The milky caramel was perfect with the rich dough. Don’t take this one to go though — dulce does not stay put like the denser fruit fillings. On my second visit, I tried the venison sausage — nice and flavorful, though drier than the klobasa — and the prune, which was as delicious as any prune kolach I ate in Prague.

I’m not from Texas so I didn’t know what a kolache was until a few years ago. I’ve been pretty unimpressed thus far with the ones I’ve tried in the past… but the Kolache Shoppe rocks my socks! I LOVETHESEKOLACHES. I had: strawberry, apple, and jalapeño sausage. All were soo good, especially the strawberry. Came early on a Saturday morning(7:45ish) and they still had a good selection of all the flavors. There were tons of people coming in and out though so I’d recommend going early before they run out!

I admit I am partial to small businesses! I love this place and now I love it even more. A new couple took over ownership this year and just remodeled. They had great Kolaches before — but it wasn’t so inviting. Now it is adorable! It’s charming and more modern. The Kolaches are the same recipe from the original owners — with a few new selections! From the old school side I love the sausage stuffed with jalapeño and cheese! But now they have added seasonal flavors! Such as Strawberry Rhubarb! You must try this place. It’s so good and the couple who own it are a breath of fresh air!!! So excited!
