I came here on a rainy Saturday morning around 11:15 am. Every table was occupied, with the exception of one table where a group just left. I went to the counter and requested a seat for one, and she asked if I wouldn’t mind sitting at one of the empty spaces on the long table in the middle. I did not mind at all. I sat on the corner of the table, and there was a couple one or two seats down. They began speaking to me, and they were very nice. They were regulars and they informed me that this place stays busy on the weekends, which is a good sign. I was brought warm chips and salsa along with a large glass of ice water almost immediately. I peeked at the menu on Unilocal before arriving, so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the breakfast enchiladas, which is three enchiladas with two fried eggs on top, with rice and beans. I got the cheese enchiladas because I am a sucker for cheese enchiladas. The food came out quickly, and it sure was a lot of food. The cheese enchiladas weren’t the best I have ever had, but they were good. I think the gravy could use some more flavor — it seemed to be kind of bland. All of the other food I saw looked delicious — I heard some good things about the breakfast tacos from the couple that I was sitting near. After I ate and paid, I grabbed a(free) self-serve ice cream cone. The ice cream was delicious — vanilla with a hint of cinnamon. Overall, this is a great Tex-Mex place with good prices and a very convenient location. I plan to return one day for dinner.

This place was a random fine but it is definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to around the heights!

Oh my goodness their FREE ice cream is yum. And of course they slide out some yum yums as well. I order their nachos mostly.

Fast service, excellent food and exceptional customer service! Love this place! Great for lunch. The food reminds me of my mom’s cooking when i was a little girl. Full of flavor and lots of cheese!

I went in for carne guisada tacos but it wasn’t the kind of carne guisada that I like. There may be different versions and unfortunately this wasn’t what I’m used to.

Finally decided to try this place out after only looking at it from Chase Bank right across the street. Came in to the restaurant and nobody greeted me or anything. Found an empty booth and I sat myself down. Sat around for a few minutes before anyone approached me to hand over the menu, and then to bring some chips and salsa. I took a quick look and decided to try the Tommy’s Tacos that everyone seems to be raving about. After about five minutes, the waitress finally came back. I ordered just the tacos(no rice and beans) on corn tortilla and some chili con queso for my chips. The queso came out pretty quick and it tasted pretty good. The small size is definitely plenty for a party of one. It’s probably enough for two or three people to share. The Tacos came out not long after, but to my surprise, the tacos are just tortilla, beef, and a little queso on the meat. That’s it. The description says that I should be getting sauteed onions also(I did ask to skip the jalapeño), but nope. No onions for me. The tacos tasted okay, they weren’t anything out of this world. To me, they were just average. On top of that, you take away the sauteed onions, meh. Throughout my dining experience here, nobody really came to check on me. After I had received my food, the waitress came to check on me ONCE — to fill up my water. After that, she was nowhere to be found. It didn’t take me long to finish my tacos. After I was done, I was just sitting there reading the news on my phone for a good while. Did anyone come to offer the bill? Nope. Did anyone come back to refill my water? Nope. I then decided to just go ahead and walk up to the counter and pay. I paid and asked for a to-go box(for the chips) and a container(for the queso). The girl who was taking my payment only gave me a to go box. I had to ask for the container a second time before she gave it to me. With the average food and the horrible service, I can’t justify giving this place more than a two stars. It’s such a shame, though. While I was dining here, I noticed that all the waitresses seemed to be very busy with all the other tables in my view They kept going back, chatting, whatever. It seemed like I was just the odd man out. I even saw one guy(owner, maybe?) who was helping out with a couple tables and he seemed very attentive. Oh well, meh. If I come back here, it’s definitely going to be to go. However, I doubt that it’ll happen. And oh, they also have free ice cream cone, so that’s a plus.

The place feels homey and the wait staff is super friendly. Upon arriving she brought chips and salsa– the chips were crisp and the salsa was tasty and spicy, yum! I order the caldo de pollo, which I was told they don’t normally serve until the weekend. It hit the spot. It had just the right amount of chicken and all the veggies to go with it. Their tortillas are handmade both flour and corn. I saw some other plates coming out and they looked good which will give me a reason to come back.

It was a cold Sunday morning in Houston and decided that I needed a bowl of Caldo. I did a search on some caldo places that I have not tried. This was one of the highest rated places, so I loaded up the kids and wife and went to Mi Sombrero. I usually eat at some of the places south of N/610. I was surprised that this area was not run down… Now to the food. My wife and I had a bowl of Caldo and 5 breakfast tacos. It was weird that they only sold breakfast tacos in orders of 2 or 3. So I had 2X chorizo and 3X bacon/egg. Both the Caldo and breakfast tacos were excellent. The service was kind of slow(in getting the check), but it was still good. I recommend this place if you are looking for good breakfast tacos or caldo. It is definitely one of the better caldo places here in Houston.

Great sit down or takeout. Tommys taco dinner is a favorite. The salsa is great. It’s warm and spicy. The guacamole leaves a little to be desired. Seating is minimal which only seems to hinder acquiring a table on weekend mornings for breakfast. The final touch is the free soft serve ice cream. Nice touch.

By the looks of the outside I am sure it turns most people away, but this is the true definition of hole in the wall. But don’t be scared walk right on there and find your self a seat. The hot sauce is served warm and it has a wonderful flavor to go along with the homemade chips. My favorite plate there is the George’s Original Tacos with pork. Who wouldn’t want a homemade tortilla filled with pork, onions, jalapenos and then topped off with queso? Heck I do every time I go there! I have had some of their other menu items and have enjoyed them as well. Their prices are extremely reasonable, 4 people can eat there for under $ 40! You tell me where else in Houston you can do that at your fancy expensive«authentic» chain Mexican restaurants? I want to try their breakfast tacos there one day. Just stop in you won’t be disappointed.

Love this place! Food is super yummy. Best refried beans in town(the only restaurant beans my son will eat and he has sensory+eating issues). Chips and salsa is good. Plus free ice cream! What else could you ask for?!

This joint is… not very good, at all… nor is it any kind of authentic. Tacos only come in 3’s and those start at $ 9 a threesome($ 3 a taco?!?), Can’t mix and match either. Tortillas are a wreck, They are like a mix between a corn tortilla and pita bread. The meat is dry and bland and they don’t give you much of it at all, At least it’s decent quality meat however — No fat or gristle. The onions are minced as well as the cilantro — It’s a step away from liquid. This isn’t the worst I’ve ever had believe it or not but it’s near the bottom of the list — There are so many better options the further down you go on W. 34th Street. There is free soft serve ice cream however lol — At least that was cool. I have no earthly idea how the hell this place has so many good reviews. I may give it another try because it just has SOMANY good reviews but… I doubt it.

For me, this is the quintessential hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. Laid back family-owned vibe, attentive service, and great food. Tommy’s tacos are my jam, some of my favorite tacos in town. Don’t forget the cinnamon ice cream. Having this place around the corner makes me smile.

Good, solid Mexican food. As a tiny bonus, there’s a soft serve ice cream machine and cones if you have children, a sweet tooth, or both. I went with my sister who recommended«Tommy’s Tacos.» These are tacos with fajita meat, grilled onions, bell peppers, jalepenos and a generous amount of queso. I’m eating a low carb diet so I skipped the tortilla and ate the insides and it was DELICIOUS. The salsa was really good, too(I’m picky about my salsa). I took off a star for restaurant ambience, it was blah and could have been cleaner. Not dirty, just could be better. I’ll be going back, definitely.

Love their chips n salsa always served hot Not cold. I like their carne guisada and their carnitas. Love the free soft serve vanilla ice cream with cinnamon… Takes me back to my childhood. taste just like the old-school ice cream truck used to sell in my hood. Service is good, food takes a bit because it’s not fast food.

This place is amazing. It is casual, good for families and inexpensive. I’ve ordered the tostadas and the tommy’s tacos. Both were really good. Everything is cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The tortillas are hand made and delicious. The salsa is a tiny bit spicy for me, but I still eat it because the flavor is great!

I used to live right next to this place, so there have been a couple of hungover lunches here. And those meals always tasted much better than my more recent sober lunches. The food quality has always been probably about the same, which is solid, but nothing remarkable. The best thing to get are the Tommy Tacos though. It is filled with fajita meat and topped with queso! I’ve tried a few other entrees and nothing memorable. My favorite is the FREE ice cream you get. It’s like cinnamon flavored, but I usually get at least 2 servings, and sometimes another cone to go!

Sorry for yet another 4 star review. Maybe I’m too nice, or maybe Unilocal just steers me right, so I eat at the best places. I’ll start off with he negatives. There is no tequila. I repeat, there is NO tequila. BUT their agave wine margaritas weren’t half bad and only $ 3.50! Food was very good, the Tommy’s special(3 tacos w whiz, peppers and onions and I did the mixed fajita). Chips were good, salsa was watery for me, but taste was there. Food: 4.5 Drinks: 3 Atmosphere: 2 Service: 3 Price: 5 Overall, good spot for some tacos and cheap drinks. But if you want a Real margarita, then better steer clear.
