I really only had a brief experience here since I visited during a quick lunch break from a dental meeting at the convention center. It was just a quick walk from the convention center. I was very impressed with this place! There’s an outdoor patio which I think would be a great place to hang out on a nice warm day and the inside is well lit with daylight from the tall windows. From the front, you are greeted by bar top tables, small lounge seating and a large bar. Heading towards the middle of the restaurant, you will find the hostess table. Unfortunately we did not have time to get a table so we ended up grabbing a spot at the bar top tables since they were first come first serve. The lunch menu has ample to choose from, but my eyes went straight to the braised short rib tacos so I decided to order those. It was absolutely delicious and juicy. I admit it was a little on the pricey end for three small tacos, but it was not disappointing at all. My friend ordered a sandwich, but there was a slight confusion and she received the torta ahogada, but she decided to keep it. She felt that the meat was underwhelming and dry, but the potatoes were good. We did not have enough time to enjoy dessert, but the dessert menu looked really good. I would love to come back to fully experience this place again!

Visiting from Chicago and this place is very nice. Nice ambiance and great staff. We had some wine by the patio and had a great time. Highly recommend!

Today, I started with the St Basil martini. It is a refreshing and delightful beginning to a meal. Our waitress described the«soup of the day» as a sweet potato and shrimp bisque. My soup came as a cream soup of sweet potato and shrimp stock. When I asked the waitress about the shrimp, she said it was a bisque. Does«bisque» indicate to you that it is strictly a cream soup? What about lobster bisque? Corn bisque? Anyhoo, the bisque was«shrimpy» without any shrimp in it. I won’t try that again. The guacamole is a standby favorite as well as the grits. So, that’s lunch today. Again, I’d like to give more stars for the ambience and staple menu items, but service prevents me from doing any more than 3 stars.

Overall I enjoyed the visit. I visited on a wed evening prior to attending the Rockets game. I arrived about 5:25 and noticed they had valet parking. The parking sign said $ 8; however, if you were going to leave your car there after dinner and go to the game it was $ 15. And of course you would throw in a tip so now you are at $ 18-$ 20. I decided to park right across the street in the surface parking lot for $ 10 and there was plenty of parking available. While I waited for the reminder of my party to arrive I sat at the bar and had a beverage or two and enjoyed the eye candy. They have an upstairs and an outdoor area which are nice. The restaurant and bar are on the street level and is not a very big dining area, but nice. The service was excellent from the tall attractive hostess, bar tender and waiter. Now to the food, we did not have any small bites(appetizers). Three of us had the redfish, grilled with round potatoes. It was excellent and had a great flavor. I was part of the clean plate club! Unfortunately, I have to agree with many other reviews I read. I was still hungry after dinner. Once we got settled at the game I had another meal. Because I was a guest I did not pick up the bill; however, I would guess with tip early $ 200 for four people, which include a beverage for each of us. Good spot for a light dinner before the game. They were very sensitive to our time with regard to attending the game. Yes I would recommend but don’t go hungry!!!

Really enjoyed it. Still can’t get over the chestnut gingerbread toffee cake. Had the beef quesadilla and the bottomless mimosa.

The best part about The Grove is definitely the aesthetic aspect of it. The décor and ambience is great, but as can be expected with places such as these, you end up paying for it. I don’t mind paying high prices for good food, but I DO mind paying sky high prices for food when you end up spending more on a single meal than you do in groceries for a week and still leave hungry. My family and I went for dinner because it seemed like the better option while we were at Discovery Green for the ice skating rink. 2 people chose the soup and salad combo(hello New Year’s resolution), 2 people ordered the cochinita pibil, 1 person ordered the braised short ribs and the 2 kids ordered the sliders. The salads were definitely unimpressive and the cup of soup that it came with was no more than a ladleful. Considering it’s a dinner option, I would have expected the portions to be larger. It was the amount I would serve a child. I was thankful I didn’t order that. The person that ordered the braised short ribs barely ate half, but not because they were full or because it was a large portion. He said it wasn’t good and had a weird aftertaste that he couldn’t pinpoint. I got the cochinita pibil, which said it came with rice, potatoes, and corn tortillas. At the very least, I would have expected homemade tortillas. What I got instead was 3 flimsy microwaved corn tortillas like the kind you buy in a package at the grocery store that cost $ 2 for a pack of 50. The rice was plain white boiled rice with no salt added. The pork was actually good but I only got like 4 pieces of fingerling potatoes. The only thing that gave my dish flavor was the habanero salsa and the pickled onions. The kids seemed to enjoy the sliders, but c’mon how do you mess up sliders? Also, there is no kids menu. The waiter listed like 3 things available for kids off the top of his head. It was sliders, chicken strips and 1 other thing. As far as the menu, everything seemed over priced. It was all $ 14+ with the soup and salad option being the cheapest. However, I would hardly consider that a full entrée. A cheeseburger will cost you $ 18. Valet is $ 8, which I found a little ridiculous considering we parked our car ourselves. Service was just ok. Our waiter only stopped by a couple of times but thankfully no one needed anything and nothing had to be sent back. They had other people refilling drinks, which makes it too easy for the waiters considering they get the full 20%. I wouldn’t come back for dinner, because even splitting the check with another person, I paid almost $ 90 with the included 20% gratuity and I’m sure everyone in my party was tempted to stop at a drive through somewhere after leaving. No alcoholic drinks were ordered and only 4 people(including the 2 kids) had soft drinks. If I were to return, I would come back for the happy hour or possibly brunch but I am in no hurry to get ripped off and leave hungry.

I liked the Grove, but I wouldn’t go as far to say that it’s the best I’ve ever had for the prices they had. Definitely a place for the ambience and the view of Discovery Green! We ordered the Guacamole to share as a table, and there was definitely enough for 4 people to share. My favorite dish was the mac and cheese that comes with mushrooms and herbs. I ordered the chicken and JC rice bowl. It was good, but it could have used some more flavor. The fish was also very good and I wish I would have ordered that instead. All in all The Grove is a great place for drinks and a «dressy» dinner, but don’t expect the food to blow you away. I’d come back for drinks or to bring guests simply because of the view and the restaurant.

This was my second time at the Grove. First was for a small network event where we partook in drinks and apps. The cheese & Bread app was very good, offered a noce assortment of strong and mild cheeses. For the drink I had the New Fashion. It is very smooth, still had a bold bourbon flavore, which I like, while offering a sweet note from the orange and cherry meddled at the bottom of the glass. In fact that was the same drink I ordered on this oat recent visit. My only critic of the place is the wait staff. Both times that I been the waiters were very nice but seemed completely overwhelmed. It adds a layer of stress to the bar when people are trying to relax. I have not dined at the Grove yet, looking forward to that one day.

This is a nice establishment in a beautiful location near discovery Green. My work had a Xmas party here and the food was just phenomenal. They have a nice patio area on the second floor with a great view. Only con would be that it can be hard to get here if there’s something else going on, like a convention or Rockets game. This is definitely a great place to go on a date.

I often saw this restaurant near Discovery Green. It was my first time to go inside on December 13th. It looked like some high end restaurant. But I attended some party. I didn’t pay anything. LOL, I was at a private room. It was clean and beautiful. I enjoyed the party. It is a good restaurant to have some private party.

We stopped in for a drink, and it was a bit crowded and loud, but I enjoyed my drink. I’m more interested to go around sunset when the view will be great, I’ve heard. So I wasn’t terribly impressed with it on my first visit, but I think I’ll give it a second chance!

I’ve been here couple of times! Once for dinner and another for brunch. I love this place! They have a convenient valet, not free but convenient which beats downtown parking. They have 11 $ bottomless mimosas and they were good, so worth it. I had the beef brisket Benedict and it was amazing. For dinner I had the grilled redfish and it was delicious! The best I’ve had in a while! They have a great selection of wine for all the wine drinkers! They also have good selection of cocktails. The service has been good both times I’ve been there. I would suggest you try it out at least once. Oh and not to forget, if you sit by the window or the patio you’ll have a great view of discovery green.

Went tonight to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and was very pleased(this being my first time). Discovery Green is a beautiful area and I had been to several events in the park, just never had I dined at one of their restaurants. There were 3 of us and I made a reservation on the off chance it would be crowded. Not really that busy, but I was checked in and made myself useful at the bar. Their happy hour includes wine, beer, house cocktails, and well drinks. I ordered a whiskey sour from the well, and it was very smooth even for being a very cheap drink. I think the bartender was training someone, but even then bar service was very fast! When we all got to our table, drinks in hand, we were given waters and their peanuts and olives to snack on. Service was slow, which is why I can’t give this place 5 stars. We ordered truffle fries to start with, we each ordered a different entrée and split the complimentary dessert. My plate of beef short ribs was mouth watering. The birthday girl ordered the shrimp and our friend ordered the strip steak. All in all excellent food, pricey but worth it. If you want something a bit cheaper, sit at the bar and order the small plates which are shareable and cost $ 8. Also, the sides from what I saw are large and cheaper than regular menu items. Definitely will come again, I had a great time and the ambience was so lovely. Perfect restaurant for a perfect dinner!

I ate here with a group on business. The place was packed due to a conference, so waitstaff was busy. The service was slow, and the waiter overlooked my friend when it came to the water for the entire meal. The food. The food was extremely overpriced, but amazing. I had the cochinita pibil. The dish was amazing and spicy. The picked onion was delicious and the pork was tender. I loved this dish, although I hated paying nearly $ 20 for it. I recommend!

I visited this joint twice during a recent business trip once for lunch and once for a team dinner. The location is very central and surrounded by beautiful trees specially if you sit by the window; overlooking the Discovery Park. The décor is very modern with floor to ceiling glass and they have a private room at the back which is great for team events. The service was good and friendly and I highly recommend the fresh lemonade as a refreshing non-alcoholic drink. As for food the guacamole with chips was the highlight of my two meals, lunch and dinner, with great presentation and fresh of the oven tortillas. The dessert was just average and my fillet mignon was just average. Overall I would recommend the lunch options rather than dinner at this place.

The night we chose to go to the Grove was because we had an event at the Toyota Center and we were hungry so I have some places that was close in vicinity and came up with the grove. I was so happy we chose this place for dinner. The setting was the dim lighting with candles on all the tables. The waiter was very pleasent his knowledge of the menu that was exceptional; any question that we had was answered in detail not a beat was missed with this one. Everything was quick and didnt take long. It started raining during dinner and progressed almost into a hurricane the closer I we got to leaving for the Toyota Center. So im all dressed up with makeup on freaking out!!! Wishing I would have brought three umbrella, the bar staff was nice enough to provide all the women that were running over to the Toyota Center that just dined with them trash bags. This trash bag saved my life, and for the most part dry as a bone. I would definitely eat here again and I also recommended this place to other friends. Appetizer: smoked salmon deviled eggs Dinner: chile short ribs I would come back any day the smoked salmon was so good in the smoky flavor was perfect I loved it. I actually shared this appetizer, but next time I will get it by myself. My dinner also had a really good flavor. The meat were really tender and I like that you can make a little tacos out of it.

I went here for the Sundown event yesterday, it was cider night. Lovely terrase with limited seating. The event was well organized & cheap to go to(20 $/person). The fees gives you access to 4 X 4oz flights of the specific beverage highlighted with food pairing. You can substitute for 2 glasses of wine from what I was told. Food is all you can eat. Live DJ spinning music was nice but a little loud. Friends who have been to the event weeks prior said that the food was the best so far. The staff were efficient so much so that when the event was over they wanted us out! If you were to stand up there was no guarantee that your chair would be there at your return. Happy hour is available from 4:00 — 7:00 at the bar & patio. The bar bites seem quite appetizing. I was told that the restaurant itself is overpriced by a few people. I would be more than happy to return for this event in the future.

By far, the best restaurant experience I have had, from food to service. My beautiful wife and I came here for her 21st birthday(no, we don’t drink alcohol, if you were curious) and what a celebration it was, thanks in part to The Grove and Gage, our waiter. The décor and location are modern and pure excellence. In the midst of Discovery Green park, the entire 25 foot North wall is solid glass, providing a wonderful view of the park. For food, we had the wild mushroom mac + cheese(picked from their fresh rooftop garden), tomato bisque and a perfectly cooked Filet Mignon with a inventive potato mash. For dessert, Gage placed a tall/thin candle in our Banana Tiramisu, with an edible chocolate«Happy Birthday» note. The bill matches the high attention to detail and flavor of the food and service. Such a great treat if you’re near the area, or want a flawless dining experience.

The Grove is a farm to table restaurant that serves flavorful food with solid vegetarian options. I went with colleagues on a Friday after already having my fair share of Doozo’s dumplings and Domino’s pizza. I’ve been before with workmates, and always have been impressed by the vegetarian fare here, whether that’s the tacos or the salads. I had the roasted winter squash salad and apple salad, which was a lot more winter squash and a lot less apple and arugula than I expected. The white truffle vinaigrette was amazing, though. The restaurant was moving a bit slow, despite being more than 50% empty. Our waiter dropped a plate, forgot to bring out waters, etc., but I was enjoying the chips and guac as well as the peanuts so much that I didn’t notice 45 minutes pass before our entrees came out. Overall, the Grove is a place I like going to when I have more time for lunch on Fridays.
