Shore House Café has closed and this is a tragedy. I suspect this crime against humanity is due to a hike in rent due to the prime location, being right down the street from downtown and the pier. What looks like an up-scale Italian restaurant occupied the building the last time I was in HB.

I used to eat at this Café fairly regularly and I always found it satisfying even if it’s a tad bit greasy. Their menu is your typical diner menu(huge) and with lots of great egg dishes. I usually ordered their egg croissant which was yummy, buttery goodness. You also can’t beat the prices here. Sitting outside on the sidewalk is great on a nice day in HB.

I’m well versed in the Shore Houses of Seal Beach and Belmont Shore. Admittedly, by «well-versed» I mean coming here plastered at 3am. But my visit to Shore House HB was very different. Not only was I not drunk, but it was 10am. A mere 6 hours or so after my normal visits, and such a different atmosphere. Respectable people around having orange juice and reading the morning paper. I was almost ashamed. I must say, though, I rather like this Shore House location. They’ve got an entire upstairs area with a pool table and a bar! A bar, I tell you! And a jukebox! Good thing I was with a group of very healthy, running Unilocalers or else I may very well have been sloshed and dancing to AC/DC tunes from the jukebox. Being well versed in Shore House though, I knew to order the salad. Any salad there really. They make the Seinfeld«Big Salad» look like one of those little Mickey D’s snacker salads. They don’t kid around. I mean, when you ask for your dressing on the side it comes in a freakin’ gravy boat. And that’s truly not an exaggeration. It really is a gravy boat filled to the brim with ranch dressing. Now, if only someone could do something about this restaurant being on one of my most detested streets in all of Orange County…

I definitely picked the wrong breakfast. I’m a big fan of crab cakes, so when I saw the Shore House has a crab cake Benedict, my mind was made up. Thank goodness I always ask for the Hollandaise sauce on the side. This one was the color of French’s yellow mustard and came with a thick skin on top. Yuck! The crab cakes were pretty terrible. I don’t even know if they were made with real crab as advertised. The seasoning tasted weird and was very salty. Fortunately the poached eggs and hash browns were good, but I left unsatisfied. The service was decent and the restaurant is in a great location. Plus they were able to seat our party of 11 right away, which most restaurants on Main St. wouldn’t be able to do. So I would come back, but I will make sure I re-read my review so I don’t accidentally order the crab cake Benedict again!

Having only eaten soy pudding before our run i came here HUNGRY and READY!!! We came here as a big group there’s around 11 people in the table and os we were seated upstairs which is pretty cool, it has a bar, pool table and a juke box. This places should be great to hang out after work. And so we were handed out the menu, one thing that always bothers me in a restaurant, its when their menu is too much they offer american and mexican food in here and the choices feels like never ending. Most places that does this is usually mediocre at its best. So i just got one of the most safest breakfast thing but with a twist, i got the STUFFEDFRENCHTOAST, it has extra cream cheese stuffed inside each toast, I also got extra corned beef hash. The french toast was ok it is not great but its good enough but its too filling this should be shared by two people unless you’re such a pig to finish the whole thing and about the coned beef hash its just like the one that you get straight from the can. Maybe I didn’t get their bast dish maybe I should comeback here and try something else. The prices are reasonable for the french toast its 6 bucks plus the hash which is extra 2.95 and a drink for 2 bucks. The service is pretty good too we get out drink refills as often as we can and they always check on how things are. Definitely its worth to comeback here.

If you’re thinking of breakfast in Huntington Beach, this place doesn’t instantly come to mind. I’d been to other Shore House Cafes, but they were always late night destinations. Well, after my visit, I may rethink my opinion of this Shore House. Since we were in a rather large group of eleven, they had us go upstairs, which has a large bar, pool table and juke box, along with a bunch of small round tables. Must be their bar/lounge area that probably sees more action at night. We just put some of the round tables together and voila – plenty of seating. I guess this place used to be some old-school seafood joint before the Shore House took over; the interior looks pretty old and a little grotty, but nothing too objectionable. They were playing some classic rock, which was fine, but then for some inexplicable reason they turned on the radio(KLOS), which came in really loud. A bunch of us had to ask the waiters to turn it down. I wonder if the same stuff’s playing downstairs – all I know is, I like AC/DC, but«You Shook Me All Night Long,» seemed a bit out of place at the breakfast table. They have a large extensive menu, so I had a hard time deciding what to get. In the end, I settled on the build-your-own omelette with bacon, avocado and cheddar, with hash browns and a side of wheat toast. I must say, everything I got I really liked. The omelette wasn’t too dry, and I especially loved the hash browns, which were the right mix of crisp and tender. I was thinking of trying their crab cake benedict but glad I didn’t, after reading some of the others’ reviews. OK, so maybe fresh seafood isn’t their strong suit, but I think a majority of us liked the food very much. There were pancakes, burritos, salads and stuffed french toast and they all got a thumbs-up(certainly better than the food I had at the Longboarder). I also thought the service was good – there were a couple of waiters handling our table and they seemed on top of all the refills and requests, and were very nice to boot. I wouldn’t make a special trip to this place, but if I happen to be in the area, I wouldn’t mind going again at all.

A few years ago, I went to an actual cooking school. There, they asked us «name one of the five mother sauces.» In case you don’t know, Mother sauce are the grand sauces in which other sauces are derived from. So, as for answers, they are brown sauce, tomato sauce, emulsions, veloute, and bechamel. So when we came here after our monthly run today, I was mildly excited to see the vast choices for breakfast, including a New England lump crabcake benedict($ 10.95)that has hollandaise sauce over it. I opted for the pancakes that was included with the crabcakes. When my plate( ) came and I took a bite, the crab didn’t taste fresh, nor did it tasted like it was from a can. I was also a little worried about the hollandaise sauce since it was a golden color. This was the the classic emulsion sauce which should of consisted of yolk, butter, salt, cayenne, and lemon juice. It tasted a little heavy and bit off but I have to say, everything else on the plate was great. Slightly crunchy pancakes on outer edges, good poached eggs, and good service on refills. It accommodated our little party of eleven peeps. Next time I’m here, I’ll try out something without the sauce or maybe be like Amy and get sauces on the side.( )

This place is like an upscale Denny’s. It’s open 24 hours, 7 days a week and they serve breakfast at all hours of the day. The staff here is nice. They let you sit where ever you’d like. It’s a good place to go after a night of clubbing or partying. Their menu is very big and eclectic. They have American to Chinese to Mexican. I’ve had their sandwiches, which are very good. I’ve had their pizza’s particularly the Mexican pizza and it is yummy! Then I’ve sampled all of their breakfast items. All of which are better than Denny’s.

This place is so good. I was down on a visit and it reminded me of the Bucket from home. The bartender was a bit spunky, but made good drinks! We shared the pasta with chicken, sundried tomato and artichoke hearts. VERYGOOD. The open faced prime rib sandwich was not a big fav. And I didn’t get one clam in my chowder. The location is primo, the pool tables kept us busy… and FREEPARKING!!! Not too pricy, fun, and a good crowd… and everything smelled sooooogooooodd!

I would give it zero stars but Unilocal makes me give at least one. It looks appealing from the outside, there you go, one star for that. Sat down outside. The whole table was sticky. Pulled out a baby wipe. cleaned the table, the wipe was black by the time I finished. Not a good sign, we were probably the first to sit at the table in the morning, and it hadn’t been cleaned. Wonder what the kitchen is like? As far as food goes, three of us went for breakfast, food was cold when served, not really anything special taste wise. Never going again. Too many other options just down the street.

So I’m kind of partial since my good friend bartends here. I usually order the baked potato which for $ 5 is a great deal, it comes with butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon and chives. You can add as many toppings as you like for a cost. I also like the fish tacos which you can get for $ 1 if you go during happy hour. I tried the molten chocolate cake once and I was disappointed. It tasted like freezer. As far as drinks go I’m well taken care of there.

I’ve been to Shorehouse Café several times for breakfast when my parents come to HB. They like to people watch, which you can do if you sit on the sidewalk or inside near the windows, and since it borders on the residential portion of Main St., it’s a lot easier to get in and out of Shorehouse Café during the busy summer months. On different visits, I’ve had the cinammon raisin French toast, super oatmeal and muffins — not much different than what you’d find at Denny’s, but if you’re looking for a run-of-the-mill breakfast place in downtown HB without fighting traffic, check it out.

Cool little place. Nice circular full bar. Friendly staff. Food is pretty good, although I have only had lunch and not any of the big dinner items. Good place to go for a few drinks and watch the people walk by. It is on the corner of Main and Balboa.

You don’t come to Shore House Café for great food — you come here because you want to spend a lazy Sunday morning sitting outside in the sun and you don’t feel like cooking for yourself. The food’s only ok. The omelette’s are good, not great. You can substitute fresh fruit instead of hash browns to come with your breakfast — just be warned that the fruit’s not exactly fresh. As for the hash brown’s — I wasn’t a fan. I thought they were a little soggy and lukewarm. Adding salt and Tabasco seemed to help a little, though. One of the unique charm’s of Shore House is that they serve their entire menu all day long. So while I wanted a tomato and sausage omelette at 11:00 am, my friend’s mom was able to order herself a rare Porterhouse with mashed potatoes at the exact same time. And while you’re spending a lazy Sunday at Shore House, the staff will be too. Service is friendly, just really slow.

Though I live down the street, the other 2locations in Long Beach are better. Only b/c one unattentive server ruined it for me & my sister. The food didn’t seem so great after our long wait to be seated, order, or receive the bill. Even though it was a weekend the place wasn’t packed. Now we understand why. Redeeming quality & fave: Monte Carlo egg bread breakfast sandwich w/turkey & ham. Thank goodness its available at all their locations.

This place is only a few miles away from where I live. It’s on Main Street of Huntington Beach, where there are other restaurants you can go to, but this really is a great breakfast/lunch diner. It is a diner with the diner-by-the-beach atmosphere. The crowd can get large depending on the time and day, but usually(I think) you seat yourself. The servers take notice, and again, usually, they’re friendly. I’ve tried their burgers… nothing really outstanding like the restaurant itself, but if you want something that will satisfy your beefy needs, get their burgers. I j ust get the simple one with bacon a nd cheddar cheese — quite nice and filling. Also, their nachos are rather hearty. None of that fake Velveeta cheese — really sharp cheddar! But what I’m more prone to is their breakfast. I usually get their«Build Your own Croissant» breakfast sandwich. Don’t quite remember t he price for it, but it’s around 7⁄8 bucks i think? Don’t quote me on that. Anyway, I get their swiss and ham croissant b/c there’s nothing like melted cheese in the morning. Comes with hash browns, home fries, or, if you’re feeling delicate, fruits. If anyone’s longing for some diner comfort food, I take them here. I don’t need another diner — frivolous I think if there’s a Shore House Café nearby!

My favorite place for a casual breakfast! I love the scrambled eggs over a huge croissant. They cover it with cheese and serve it with breakfast potatoes, yummy! The place is really laid back and they have a few tables out front. They also do a decent job with their Bloody Mary’s ans Bellini’s. Makes me hungry just thinking about it!

My girlfriend lives only a few blocks away from here so I drove down to her place and she recommended this place for lunch. We brought her dog with us and sat outside. The server was very nice to us and brought some water for the dog. The menu is huge, but the grilled shrimp cobb salad stood out. I guess I was not the only one who saw this so both my friend and I had this. For $ 10.99(the salad) you also get a bowl of soup and garlic bread. The bowl of soup was really large. I chose clam chowder, but you could also choose minestrone. The soups change daily. The garlic bread had good flavor but I should’ve tried it while it was hot instead of waiting until I finished my salad. You can choose a dressing… I had bleu cheese and my friend had Italian. My only complaint is that the grilled shrimps were kinda chewy and dry and because this was the highlight of the dish, I had expected it to shine. However, the portion was just enormous and after the clam chowder I could barely finish the salad. Good place for a casual relaxing meal with friends and it’s also very reasonably priced.
