Came here when it was stopped outside Bottle Logic Brewery. I ordered the Rolling Roll, which is really a sushi burrito. Girlfriend got the Spicy Tuna Roll. The Rolling Burrito was pretty tasty, but not filling at all, which was a bummer for $ 10. The Spicy Tuna Roll was forgettable, but not awful. The girl inside the truck wasn’t super friendly, but whatever. Gets 3 stars just for the taste of the Rolling Burrito and convenience, but you can do better for the price.

Though it’s been about two years since I’ve eaten from the sushi van, since I found out I could no longer eat gluten, I LOVED this van. The owner Chris knew me by name and what I ordered. He was super friendly which made the experience even better. My regular two rolls were the baked lobster, absolutely my favorite and miss it so very much, and the spicy tuna roll which was better than many of the other spicy tuna I use to eat. Definitely do not skip on this truck if you see it. It’s one of the best food trucks I have ever eaten.

Let me first say that I am not a conneseiur of sushi. I eat it occasionally so I don’t know it’s nuances. Plus I’m always starved after I eat it. I tried this van today at 18881 von karman and I enjoyed it. I tried the 8 piece baked lobster roll and the two piece rolling ball. The baked lobster was pretty tasty. The rolling ball was bigger than I thought and was pretty spicy too. The rolling ball was I belive spicy tuna wrapped in an edible paper with a light crunchy topping. The lobster roll seemed to be a regular california roll with lobster on top and some red peppers. All in all it was a good meal.

There’s not a whole lot of portable sushi options in the OC, but Rolling Sushi Van gets it right. It takes a few minutes to make your sushi, but that’s fine with me knowing my sushi will be fresh. I haven’t seen the Rolling Sushi Van on my stomping grounds lately, but I’ll eat there next time they show up. 3.5 stars upped to 4.

We have food vendors that visit my work location in Irvine. I ordered the California Roll & Crunch Roll Special for $ 10. All I can say is GROSS!!! First of all everything was warm(EWE). The rice was super mushy & when I ate my first bite of the crunch roll, the sauce on the top smelled like old oil/grease mixed in it. I went back to the truck & told them and I asked if I can just get something else. Well, I got the other special which was the Spicy Tuna Bowl. I ended up eating everything else exept the MUSHYMUSHY rice. I definitely won’t be eating from this Food Truck again. Be careful cause warm seafood is not good & can you can get worms eating fish/seafood warm. Who wants to eats«WARM» seafood? Not me.

I was really looking forward to this one! Located this sushi truck at a regular location, and placed my order: * Two piece tuna nigiri sushi; * Spicy Tuna Hand Roll; * Rainbow roll I thought with these three I could see how they handle a few different things, plus they are favorites. Ordering was simple and easy, although with the small window they have in the van, plus the way they have the various menus scattered left, right, above, and off truck on a sandwich chalkboard standing nearby, it took a while to see what they have, and come to a decision. They definitely could simplify the menu presentation to be more clear. There were options including an ahi poke bowl, and a variety of rolls, including the crunchy roll. It wasn’t busy, and the sushi came out even faster than I expected. Ratings are as follows: 1. Tuna sushi: This was pale and not the deep red maguro tuna sushi. Looked like it had been artificially colored and was a little like storebought(the fish). The rice, which came off the nigiri too easily, wasn’t sticky enough, but was flavorful with the vinegar and rice flavor you expect. 3.5÷5 2. Spicy Tuna Hand Roll. Amazingly perfect. This was flavorful, definitely did not lack in spice, was constructed well(it didn’t fall apart and had the rice, very fresh vegetables, and the tuna in the right proportions and the right places in the roll. And the serving size was very, very generous. They hit this one out of the park. 5⁄5 3. Rainbow Roll. Unfortunately, even though I was definitely charged for the rainbow roll, when I got home and opened the styrofoam to go container they put everything in, I was given a California Roll. Since I had paid $ 25 overall, and the rainbow roll was nearly four times the price of a California roll, I felt like I got ripped off. The California roll was made with rice that was a little too rubbery for my tastes, and may have been sitting out for a bit. The California roll that I was given instead of my Rainbow Roll that I paid for I give a 2⁄5 Overall, some tasty options, and definitely good on speed of service, but check your orders so you don’t get charged for something and then have it switched on you, like I did. Very disappointing.

The spicy tuna bowl is so spicy but so good! The bowl is very filling! The spicy tuna chips is similar but instead of the bed of rice it is a bed of chips, these are also very good.

These guys are the real deal. I decided to use them for a business meeting. I was able to text him my order and he had the large order all set, right on time for my pick-up. You may be hesitant to get sushi from a van and I was at first. I’ve had a lot of sushi in my day and this was definitely great sushi! Fresh fish, large pieces, excellent baked rolls(lobster and salmon) and hand rolls and overall an excellent experience. Highly recommend it, I’d get them again for sure.

This was a perfect match tonight, Claremont Craft Ales and the Rolling Sushi Van. We come here often to enjoy their beer and the visiting food trucks. The fish is great… fresh, flavorful and good sized portions. For a one man operation, service was faster than most three person trucks. We have a favorite local sushi bar, but this was every bit as good and then some.

The Rolling Sushi Van makes an excellent Sushi inspired lunch! These guys have been around Irvine for years now and was one of the first trucks I tried back in the great food truck heyday. I am glad to see that they are still churning out their own unique flavors in that little Mercedes Sprinter. Considering the size of their Van, they offer a ton of options and I like almost everything that I have tried. An absolute must every visit is their Spicy Tuna Chips which is basically a Poke with wonton chips as a delivery mechanism. The Tuna is cold and wicked fresh, I love it in summer. I usually get an order of the Shrimp Sushi and a Spicy Tuna Roll to complete a lunch and although it isn’t the cheapest in lunch options, it is Sushi and I am okay spending a little more on quality ingredients in this genre. Serious Sushi aficionados(you know who you are) need not apply, this is not going to compare with the Nana San’s and Noguchi’s of Orange County, but for Sushi on wheels, these guys do an admirable job. I loo forward to finding the van again soon!

Went to the Bruery in Placentia for a couple of cools ones and the Sushi van was parked outside. They have a great selection of sushi rolls and bowls. I decided on the spicy tuna bowl and I’m glad I did. It was topped with lots of tuna, seaweed and tiny crumbled batter pieces on top with a bowl full of rice sitting underneath. The tuna wasn’t too spicy and went great with the beers. I was talking to the owner and they even do catering and corporate parties. I am definitely a fan and if the Sushi van rolls back my way, i’ll grab the same again.

Not sure why I expected sushi from a van to be really good. I think I conflated the good tasting food from other food trucks into my perceptions of how this was going to fare. Bad move. First, the positives: Service was friendly and fast. Now, the negatives: The sushi was not good. It did not taste fresh, and it was evident that lots of sauces and other condiments were used to hide this fact. Again, my bad for thinking it might be otherwise from a van. The price was $ 13 for an 8 piece roll. That’s the same as a brick and mortar restaurant with likely much higher overhead. Methinks this proprietor is making bank. I wouldn’t complain if the quality was there, but as I’ve said, it was not. Sushi connoisseurs, if you know what good sushi really is, then you will not like this. Sorry!

Okay, let’s be real here. The quality just isn’t there. How could you expect anything else from a sushi van that sits in the hot sun all day? I was really disappointed because there were some great reviews(and it’s expensive!!). I got the baked lobster roll and a spicy tuna hand roll. How do you mess up a spicy tuna hand roll? the fish tasted really strange and the nori was so tough I could barely bite through it. All of the fish was crowded to the top so you think you’re getting some giant beautiful roll but really it’s all in one bite. oh, well. You win some you lose some. Now I know to steer clear of the van full of fish.

I don’t know what I was expecting. Well, to be honest, I think I was expecting this diamond in the rough, greatest sushi of all time to come out of a van. Why would I have such expectations? Well, for starters the rating is 4+ stars, which is rare for any local sushi venue and secondly, the pictures truly make this look like it is going to be amazing. I have been waiting to try this food truck for at least a year and finally it came to my building for lunch. I decided I was going to break my diet and give it a try. The menu was very limited(which is to be expected for a food truck) and I decided to give it a try. I got the crunchy rainbow roll(or whatever it is called). What should be not surprisingly, it didn’t have that much flavor and had too much sauce on it. Therefore I can’t really discuss the quality of the fish. The guy was super nice running the truck and it was only a 5 minute wait or so. It appears he makes each order right after you order and takes his time to make the presentation look nice. You can tell this is definitely his passion and I wish him the best. I will probably take my $ 13 and spend it elsewhere next time.

Talk about convenience, this truck used to come to our apartment building pretty frequently. But now they’re over at Noble Ales Works a lot, which is super close to us, so that’s cool too. The guy who runs the truck is super nice. We love getting the special of the day because it’s a better deal. Other than that I’m a fan of the rainbow roll. The prices are more than your usual«half-priced sushi happy hour» but it’s convenient and the quality is good. The portions are nicely sized, and the fish is nice and fresh. At first I was skeptical because we had never ordered raw fish from a truck before but that proved to not be a problem.

Ok, I’m giving this 5 stars because for sushi out of a van, this was amazing. I got the spicy tuna bowl which came with some edamame and a seaweed salad. The tuna itself was super fresh and the sauces were amazing. Great rice-tuna ratio too. The little umbrella they added also made my day a little brighter ;) I look forward to trying it again; my coworkers all seemed to enjoy their various rolls!
