I’ve been a regular at this place for longer than I can remember. They have the best egg and cheese croissant sandwich. I also get there sponge cake log which is so soft, and the cream filling is to die for! They always run out of everything good once it hits 12pm, that’s how you know everything they serve is amazing quality. Best place to stop by for coffee and a quick breakfast. So glad it’s conveniently placed right under the train station!

Love this place. Fast service, super cheap prices, kind staff. Bubble tea comes in limited flavors and doesn’t utilize the machines necessary to really make it frothy, but at $ 2.75 for a large cup, who even cares? My boyfriend loves the cakes– so soft and tasty. Most are under $ 2! Be aware: they are cash only!

This review is for dim sum only. I was looking for a place near the Roosevelt Avenue train station that served dim sum. Double Rainbow came to the rescue and is located literally right outside the main Roosevelt Avenue train station where the F, E, M, R, 7 runs through. Double Rainbow serves dim sum from 7 a.m. till when they run out. I’ve been there at 3 p.m. once and they were all out, however, I’ve been there at 2 p.m. and there were still leftovers. I had a chance to sample through several items: 1. Beef Cheong Fun 2. Shrimp Cheong Fun 3. Steamed Spare Ribs 4. Chicken Feet 5. Seafood Dumplings 6. Pork Meat Balls 7. Siu Mai 8. Har Kow 9. Fried Fun Kor All items were already in their plastic take out trays and were stored in a steamer. The server just took out each item as I asked for it. I must say that all the dim sum was at an acceptable level. However, the only«bad» item was the Steamed Spare Ribs, which the chef neglected to chop into smaller bits. The pieces were in various shapes and sizes. Double Rainbow also serves bakery items and has a freezer for Hershey ice cream cakes! I haven’t tried either, but they all look delicious. The store is long and narrow and there’s a big window with plenty of single stools facing the street. I just feel that it’s filled with creepy people checking the pedestrians out. All in all, if you must have dim sum in a place where dim sum isn’t readily available, this may be the place to go!

How excited am I to find that this bakery exists near my place of employment? It’s the perfect place to grab coffee and breakfast before I start and o! the breakfast options — there are your standard Chinese bakery pastry options but all done to a level of quality higher than all the other places around. This place also really wins points on variety. There is a whole dim sum menu available at 6:30 in the morning and I personally love to slurp down rice rolls before work. There are also rice bowls, lo mein, and my favorite, steamed buns fresh out of the steamer to devour. I’m only taking off a star because the coffee, like the coffee at every Chinese bakery, leaves something to be desired.

Mediocre sub-$ 3 chocolate mousse at this cash-only spot around the corner from the Roosevelt Ave station.

This is the place to go for if you ever need to buy a small but whole cake. You know, the times when you feel a slice of cake just isn’t enough but you don’t want a large whole cake? Yeah, that’s when you should come here. They have whole cakes starting from 4 inches! Also, I just love the egg tarts and lotus leaf sticky rice. My favorites :) They also have 2 for a $ 1 deal everyday after 7pm. Definitely a good place to have cheap but good snacks or dessert!

Convenient location to get Chinese food fix with wide range of sweet and savory options. I had the portugese egg tart that was so sweet and creamy with a flaky crust. The steamed pork bun with cabbage was moist, tender, and filling. Hope to go back to try the dim sum. Cheap too!

The lady in there can be a bit rude but i still go in there because they have dim sum selections until 3pm some times unlike rice and tea.

One of the contributor to a success to a restaurant or food shop, besides food and service, is PR. Even before an opening, if you ‘know’ the right people to promote to(websites, bloggers, prints…), then the player is one step ahead of the game, unless you’re gambling on words of mouth. However, not every business has the luxury for such investment or even savvy with the Internet or be ‘thick skin’ and do door to door like an Amway sales. Most ethnic places are such examples. Not that they don’t want the press, but they know their products are more culturally focused, so perhaps they would advertise in their own language’s newspaper or just quietly open and slap on a 20% discount banner to draw in local customers. Because if you’re just a local bakery, your best and most frequent customers would surely be everyday commuters and neighbors. Such is Double Rainbow. Now DR(not Duane Reade) really doesn’t need me to review them. They’re find as they are, situated adjacent to a subway station, a well trafficked spot. But the goods and services aren’t downplayed because of their convenience. The female sales are mostly friendly and cooperative the time I visit in the late afternoon as not all the pastries and buns are labelled properly. The prices won’t be as cheap as Chinatown, Manhattan, but you’re really paying for convenience and quality. I like that they also offer limited dim sum choices, such as pork buns, shrimp rolls, and other popular choices. And if you need a celebratory cakes? They’ve got you covered as well, ranging from cartoon characters and more plain Jane types. While there are several Chinese bakeries nearby, you can rotate as you needed, but definitely keep DR in the radar. Only lament is the lack of a restroom, despite some counter sitting available for you to window watch as you sip your HK style milk tea.

I added another star because as of last week, they added dim sum to their menu! Love that! Now there are more options if u wanna have lunch here or buy lunch for work. Price range from $ 1.25-$ 2. U can’t beat that with a stick. They are not as good as when u go to a restaurant, but for the price and convenience, u can’t complain. I’ve tried almost everything. Although normally not my #1 thing, shumai is the best. Most of the stuff is a little more«doughy» than at restaurants, but I’ll take it. I have tried shrimp dumpling, shrimp rice noodle, beef rice noodle, chicken feet, lotus leaf sticky rice, and combination bun. All OK. Also recently had a bite of my husband’s cinnamon roll, and it was awesome. Flaky, flavorful, and not doughy. Who would’ve thought that an Asian place will make something so American so good?

Every weekend my mom buys the almond twist here and it is really good. We often crave for it. There is a lot of variety of baked goods here and we also enjoy the lemon tea. I love the smell of baked goods and when I come here it is really a pleasure.

This a cute bakery right by my orthodontist. It’s small but it has seating which is good. I had a slice of strawberry cheese cake($ 2.75) and a small hot chocolate. They have many varieties of cheese cake like mango and chocolate mousse. I’ll definitely try that next.

I have this place outside my home subway station and a Fay Da right where I get out for work. I greatly prefer Double Rainbow both for bubble tea and morning pastries(shoutout for the sesame bun). That’s not to say they’re the best, but certainly competent enough to be your commuting go-to. I particularly like the boba they use. They have both the right level of chewiness and right amount of sweetness. I recommend the warm bubble tea over the iced here, though I usually prefer the latter. My only issue with this place is the amount of sugar they put in the bubble tea. Like most places, the cups are prefilled with sugar, so it’ll be mixed in automatically unless you ask them to make it without. I’m one of those(apparently!) very strange people that prefers her tea unsweetened, and while it’s annoying to me I do understand that the onus is on me to specify«no sugar». But sometimes I forget, and they use an exceptional amount here to the point where I’ve actually thrown away cups that were in my opinion undrinkable. But the staff is accommodating and will remake it for you if you forget to specify and realize your mistake right away, which is nice. And if you usually take your bubble tea sweetened, this is probably not an issue for you.

I would say it’s one if my favorite Chinese bakeries in my neighborhood! Plus, it is closer in proximity than let’s say Chinatown. I order my cha siu bau(bbq pork buns), don tat(egg custard tarts), and lai cha(tea with milk) here! I like one lady who works there in the afternoon. She speaks English and Cantonese well and is really friendly and patient. When I visit, I just say that the clientele is diverse. I very much enjoy taking my beverage and snack to go. There are about 10 seats and it is close to the nearby elevated 7 train, so there may be minimal shuffling. This bakery has cakes and other hot beverages as well.

In a hood that is full of SE Asian, East indian, and Latin American businesses, it may feel a bit random to have a Chinese bakery in the thick of it all. But throw in an additional 24 hour Korean eatery( ) and a Vietnamese phở joint( ) it becomes a testament to the diversity that is Jackson Heights. While it may be the only Chinese bakery in the area, Double Rainbow of Woodside is surprisingly one of the better options in the borough. The setup seems a little different from other Chinese bakeries. Most of the items are on counter display only(or from the ovens in the back), and the majority of the seats are situated near the window. Avoid the bathrooms if at all possible and be mindful that most of the baked goods are on counter display only. Even if there are items no on display, it never hurts to ask. Lord knows I’ve scored many a pineapple and BBQ bun after simply inquiring with the friendly folks behind the counter. I didn’t expect to enjoy the crossants here, but they are a pretty killer choice when fresh and in the morning. Only shoot for the fried pork pastries(ham sui gok), egg tarts(dan tat), and sesame balls(jin dui) when they’re fresh — they’re subpar when at room temperature. Throw in a hot tea or a boba quencher for a good capper to a nice snack. As always, it’s a cash only spot. I do appreciate the prompt and friendly service and the close proximity to the subway is a big plus. Whether I’m on the go or looking to kill time, I can always appreciate a visit to Double Rainbow.

A nice and small Chinese bakery right next near the 74th Street station. It is very clean inside. The only downside is that they are missing some things you would find in larger Chinese bakeries like Fay Da or Taipan — they are mainly lacking some hot pastry items and items that are filled with meat. Otherwise, you can find various cakes and mostly non-meat buns, like the popular pineapple buns and cream buns. They also offer hot and cold coffee and tea drinks, bubble tea drinks, and ice cream. Everything is cheap too — mostly $ 1 or $ 2. The walls are also lined with racks of cake decorations — I am not sure if they sell those or if those are for their cakes. Their slices of cake by the way are excellent — very soft, fluffy, and creamy.

Thank you, Rainbow Bakery for being my alternative solution to run-of-the-mill, local Chinese bakeries. You are my answer to the other nearby, longstanding bakery(opposite the Pacific Supermarket). Between us, you’ve since blown her out of the water. Unlike your grimy and unkempt competitor, you provide a well-lit, hygienic(you’re MUCH cleaner than that other spot), and serene space. Your pastries, though somewhat limited, offer an array of freshly prepared yummy snacks. Your almond-flavored coffee hits home on a cold night and all the cakes behind your counter look amazing. I appreciate the friendly and helpful staff and enjoy dropping by when I get an itch for a custard or red bean bun. Thumbs Up, Rainbow!
